teslas arent that expensive lol you can get the base model 3 for ~34k
not interested in waiting 30 min for my vehicle to charge and current EV's are going to go obsolete so damn fast.
You only wait when you're 4 hours from home. I'm done charging before I'm done shitting.
You wait a lot more time on your gas pump close to home while evs refuel in the garage
True that, still wouldn't get one at this point in time, not unless Tesla and these other companies plan to let people upgrade their batteries. Graphene batteries just around the corner, solid state not far off either
Existing Lithium Carbonate batteries are lasting longer than expected. You can pretty much expect 1 million miles off existing battery tech. Solid state may/may not charge much faster (heat issue), but they look pretty decent for life extension due to dendrite growth being unable to penetrate the "glass" membrane.
Graphene is still laboratory, and doesn't have the energy density needed. Until we update the Periodic Table, Lithium looks like a strong contender for the next decade. Bear in mind, EV have huge benefits in reduction of moving parts, your EV may have less than 20 moving parts (including transmission) whereas your Internal Combustion Engine will have over 1,000 - any one of which failure will render your car inactive. The EV with all wheel drive, has redundant in the event of a failure. Further, no oil changes, brake life extended exponentially, figure 200-500k miles between maintenance cycles.
And companies like American Battery Metals (ABML) can recycle the entire used EV battery, at 95+% recovery, reclaiming everything.
Lastly, there is only 1 source of fuel for internal engines - fossil fuel. Your EV can be charged by any means that generates electricty.
Good luck when the power goes out, which is the precursor or result of just about every natural and unnatural disaster we face in the US.
so those machines we use to pump gas.. what do those run on?
Lol I knew that was coming. It’s always the same response.
You can keep jugs of gasoline in your garage, and you can throw jugs of gas in your trunk. And worst case, you can get gasoline out of other cars, or out of the ground if you have a hose and hand pump.
You cannot carry electricity with you, or steal it out of other vehicles you come across. You have a shiny brick.
I’m sure nothing bad will ever happen when you need a vehicle during a power outage. America is perfectly safe and just full of law and order.
Lol yeah when shit hits the fan I'm sure you'll have no problem just taking your "hose and hand pump" and simply getting gasoline out of the ground.
If it gets to that point good luck getting gasoline anywhere and remember it goes bad within a year (more like 6 months)... I think you're much, much more unprepared than you realize.
When the power goes out gas stations can't pump but my solar keeps working and I have a generator too.
Plan ahead, brother
I'm cool with the bulletproof truck, though.
Really? That thing is HIDEOUS. Actually depressing to look at, feels like looking at a bleak dystopian future...which I guess we already live in lol
I'm a Halo player so I was already wanting a Warthog. Silver is a bad color tho it has to be ODG
Let's see. 500 mile range, full autopilot capable, 15,000 towing, extremely spacious inside, pretty much door-ding proof, scratch proof, and air-adjusting shocks and auto-leveling built in.
No need to wash, wax, or garage. It's a TRUCK in the purest means of the word. The "vault" is stronger than most truck covers, and moves away with the flick of a switch, 110/220 Vac available in the truck bed. Mine is on order.
Hey that's cool and all no one denies that, aesthetics are pretty important though and for some reason they decided a toddler's car sketch was the perfect choice
Guess it’s aesthetics I don’t care about how it looks, as much as what it does
I won’t lose it in the parking lot, as it can come find me - by itself.
If you saw my 20 yr old Tacoma; you would understand that how a truck looks is the least of my priorities. Yours, naturally will differ.
I won’t get the new one until early next year. I opted for the top with full options. I can wait
A 20 year old Tacoma is still better looking than the cyber truck. A Ford pinto is better looking than the cybertruck. Damn thing could fly and I still wouldn't buy one. There was really zero reason for it to be that ugly, the other Tesla vehicles are very attractive. Reminds of me the brutalism art stuff which is literally commie art designed to make you feel oppressed. So extra reason not to like it. Only EV I would be interested in owning that new hummer EV.
If I could afford a tesla. I'd buy a Western Star with AWD or a Pacific P16 AWD
There is no doubt that if a sober driver were in the driver's seat, they would have applied the brakes immediately when the car left the road, and possibly steered in a manner to avoid hitting the tree.
There is a weight sensor in the driver's seat and a torque sensor in the steering wheel. If you leave the seat, autopilot will disengage immediately. If you take your hands off the wheel it will disengage in a minute or so. They also say it was traveling at a "high rate of speed", but autopilot will not go more than 5mph over the limit on surface roads. Something doesn't add up here.
These are excellent points.
I didn't know any details about Tesla's autodrive, but I thought the story was odd. I didn't think it likely that you could make the autopilot drive at a 'high rate of speed' as in unsafe speeds. I didn't see why hitting a tree with your front bumper would make a Telsa burst into flames.
If this story is fake, then what is the point of it, though?
It will go more than 5mph over on highways, but there it is capped at 90mph. If you manually accelerate past 90 with autopilot engaged, it "punishes you" and makes you drive manually until you stop and park.
Don't know what the point of it is, just that the story as claimed doesn't add up.
It doesn't actively stop you going over 90 or turn off AP when you press the pedal but it hand checks constantly so you might as well turn it off. If you aren't paying attention it autopilot jails you and will even turn on flashers and stop the car if you don't respond long enough
It doesn't actively stop you from exceeding 90 but it does jail you. At least it did last time I tried. I got used to disengaging it to avoid the jail so maybe it doesn't any more.
I only get jailed if I ignore hands but it detects every second at 100 and I turn it off
Huh. Sounds like it was updated at some point. Good to know, thanks!
It's been like that since 2015
I both love and hate the stop and park to turn autopilot back on. But really what other choice do you have when people are pushing the system? Ether stop and behave or drive the car yourself!
Any bad Tesla news story is going to be 10x another car type.
What is a "high rate of speed" Is it faster than a fast walk? When I read stories like this I start to question everything.
They're pretty secure, though it wouldn't be impossible, I guess. They establish a VPN back to the "mother ship" and will only accept remote commands over that. If someone gained the owner's credentials they could send commands via the API endpoint used by the mobile app, but the capabilities there are pretty limited.
That said, adding the possibility of unauthorized access still doesn't make the story add up.
I tied Can and infotainment networks together in my Tesla for easier remote admin. It's pretty easy with hardware access
Tinkla Buddy is the hardware I use if anyone cares
Michael Hastings
Autopilot goes more than 5mph over speed limit. You can set it to whatever you want
Not on surface roads. And max 90mph on highways.
Mine will go 90 on limited access highways regardless of limit, the +5 is only for roads with cross traffic and stops
The torque sensor can be defeated by adding a weight to the wheel. Tesla could absolutely do better there, but if someone’s defeating the safeguard, that’s on them.
NPCs keep driving those green vehicles all you want. I'll stick to my gas guzzling lifted Ford.
I drive 200 miles a day for work. I spend $10 daily on charging. It will be less when I charge at home. Autopilot helps with the fatigue, but doesn’t remove it completely. The car is rated for at least a million miles. NPC all you want, but I will stick with it for my needs.
Agreed, I don't have an electric, but I do have a hybrid (another kind of car our base tends not to like) and i get 45-55mpg depending on variables.
You couldn't pay me to own a "gas guzzling lifted Ford", not to mention I've never encountered a single courteous or responsible driver in one of those. I'm sure that anon is a good driver but round here in Houston, you drive one of those you're either an illegal immigrant or a douche.
Who pissed in your cereal?
Always good to see such camaraderie on our side.
Just deport him and move on. They're here to create negativity because that's what they do
I love my Tesla. And my TSLA
16mpg for the win! Right there with ya. All these people defending Tesla, but when the gestapo remotely shuts down your super duper green vehicle because you aren’t conforming to their standards they won’t be laughing.” Muh freedom to travel!” Uhhh this was avoidable and we all predicted it. The same people who complain about mining coal have zero issue or knowledge about mining lithium. Ignorance is strength.
I totally agree!
People don’t drive Tesla’s to be green lol. They drive them for the tech features not the environment. Those cars are sick
When uber shows up and the Uber driver is at home in bed.
Why is this article and post pinned?
What board is this? Where am I?
Second this
666 --> 999 (flipped).
They're trying to punish musk for flipping.
TL;DR: Basically the passengers were stuffed into the car, which then drove them to death.
No, come on dude, that's not at all what it said
This was more likely a case of two arrogant pigs who thought teeheehee muh autopilot wAtCH mY cAr dRiVE itZelF.
Like two morons.
So two arrogant, Musk-cocksuckers were trialing an autopilot feature which was created as a gimmick by a greedy company hellbent on gypping rich, arrogrant idiots out of their money.
Everything Elon Musk related ends up being nothing but hot air. Sometimes he's "based" but the above stands. His whole hyperloop rubbish was a very clever pyramid scheme to bilk people, states and counties out of "research" money.
Several years ago, there was a Darwin award to the driver of a motor home that engaged the cruise control and went back to make a cuppa joe... :O
People are certainly heavily retarded, I remember when people equated cruise control with "car will drive itself". People are really, really dumb sometimes...
Fun fact, the first cruise control was named "auto pilot" and nobody thought it would drive itself
Careful, that might actually be fake news:
https://www.rittgers.com/blog/2020/03/are-the-cases-in-the-stella-awards-emails-real/
Show me on the doll where elon hurt you
lol... Why are you so bothered? Have I insulted your king? Maybe you can go and take a Hyperloop ride to calm down.
LOL its just funny how hes in your head rent free
I mean he did launch a rocket succesfully, thats more then hot air no pun intended.
He didn't.
The people who have intelligence at SpaceX did.
This is easy. What did these guys have on Hillary, Bill or Obama?
Asking the important questions.
This is FUD. All lies.
The fact that auto-pilot hasn't been perfected by now is a testament to a failure of a system we live in. Christ, its 2021! We should have flying cars by now, let alone cars that can fully drive themselves.
hop on it then einstein
They exist. You can buy flying cars, but not in most countries.
We’ve almost had flying cars now repeatedly over the past couple decades. Granted. Calling them flying Cars was a bit of a misnomer. They were essentially Airplanes and Helicopters with a car body in place of a more typical plane or helicopter body. But changes in FAA rules sunk the attempts.
They have full-self-driving available as a beta for some customers that can drive through even crowded cities remarkably well. In another 5 years it'll probably look flawless.
I'm wondering if these retards thought autopilot was the same as FSD beta.
I wonder if it really happened or if they are just trying to attack musk because he ditched cali.
Them's COVID numbers
This is the future of assassinations.
Im sure it was a man and a woman having a quick fuck in car while it drives. How is this even a story.
An electric car burst into flames? Wtf
So....snufficate the two dudes, throw them in the tesla and destroy the bodies?
Vehicles with AutoPilot are a lot like Covid-19 mRNA "vaccines".
I'll watch other people be the guinea pigs first... and let them work all the bugs out of the system at THEIR risk. :>)
When things are finally perfected so there is little risk... then I'll buy.
ITT: People defending their choice to buy Tesla’s while Ignoring the fact that Elon musk also wants to chip your brain. Gymnastics are strong in here.
People can drive Fords without being nazis. CEOs other hobbies don't make you a Nazi
What do you think those ceos profits go towards? Their “pet projects”
The ceo you're talking about doesn't get paid in money, he gets shares from Tesla and has never sold a share so your anger is incorrect
Try and be a happy person, if fels good.
What makes you believe I’m not happy?
Your words and actions
Because I vote with my dollar? Ok you win
Voti g us good. You literally respond to learning new things with negativity. You don't want to know when you are wrong, and fight against people teaching you the truth with your negativity.
I hope this knowledge can awaken positivity within you, to spur positive words and actions. And I hope both your votes and your dollars take a positive path instead of the negative one.
there is no bigger virtue signal than buying a tesla... well maybe burning down an auto zone.
bulletproof...
Dude I bought mine to go fast. Brand names don't matter to me and if that's a dig on "environment" teslas still need oil for the drive unit and melt tires faster than slow gas cars
i get it. electric motor are awesome.
