but if you get in a tesla and turn on auto pilot without being in the driver seat you are basically asking for an accident to happen.

This.

not interested in waiting 30 min for my vehicle to charge and current EV's are going to go obsolete so damn fast.

You only wait when you're 4 hours from home. I'm done charging before I'm done shitting.

You wait a lot more time on your gas pump close to home while evs refuel in the garage

True that, still wouldn't get one at this point in time, not unless Tesla and these other companies plan to let people upgrade their batteries. Graphene batteries just around the corner, solid state not far off either

Existing Lithium Carbonate batteries are lasting longer than expected. You can pretty much expect 1 million miles off existing battery tech. Solid state may/may not charge much faster (heat issue), but they look pretty decent for life extension due to dendrite growth being unable to penetrate the "glass" membrane.

Graphene is still laboratory, and doesn't have the energy density needed. Until we update the Periodic Table, Lithium looks like a strong contender for the next decade. Bear in mind, EV have huge benefits in reduction of moving parts, your EV may have less than 20 moving parts (including transmission) whereas your Internal Combustion Engine will have over 1,000 - any one of which failure will render your car inactive. The EV with all wheel drive, has redundant in the event of a failure. Further, no oil changes, brake life extended exponentially, figure 200-500k miles between maintenance cycles.

And companies like American Battery Metals (ABML) can recycle the entire used EV battery, at 95+% recovery, reclaiming everything.

Lastly, there is only 1 source of fuel for internal engines - fossil fuel. Your EV can be charged by any means that generates electricty.

permalink parent save report block reply

– Boozy_McFuckFace 2 points 5 years ago +2 / -0

Lol I knew that was coming. It’s always the same response.

You can keep jugs of gasoline in your garage, and you can throw jugs of gas in your trunk. And worst case, you can get gasoline out of other cars, or out of the ground if you have a hose and hand pump.

You cannot carry electricity with you, or steal it out of other vehicles you come across. You have a shiny brick.

I’m sure nothing bad will ever happen when you need a vehicle during a power outage. America is perfectly safe and just full of law and order.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 3 ▼
– racist_terrorist 3 points 5 years ago +3 / -0

Lol yeah when shit hits the fan I'm sure you'll have no problem just taking your "hose and hand pump" and simply getting gasoline out of the ground.

If it gets to that point good luck getting gasoline anywhere and remember it goes bad within a year (more like 6 months)... I think you're much, much more unprepared than you realize.

Let's see. 500 mile range, full autopilot capable, 15,000 towing, extremely spacious inside, pretty much door-ding proof, scratch proof, and air-adjusting shocks and auto-leveling built in.

No need to wash, wax, or garage. It's a TRUCK in the purest means of the word. The "vault" is stronger than most truck covers, and moves away with the flick of a switch, 110/220 Vac available in the truck bed. Mine is on order.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 1 ▼
– Hodar 1 point 5 years ago +1 / -0

Guess it’s aesthetics I don’t care about how it looks, as much as what it does

I won’t lose it in the parking lot, as it can come find me - by itself.

If you saw my 20 yr old Tacoma; you would understand that how a truck looks is the least of my priorities. Yours, naturally will differ.

I won’t get the new one until early next year. I opted for the top with full options. I can wait

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 2 ▼
– KekistaniMemeLord 2 points 5 years ago +2 / -0

A 20 year old Tacoma is still better looking than the cyber truck. A Ford pinto is better looking than the cybertruck. Damn thing could fly and I still wouldn't buy one. There was really zero reason for it to be that ugly, the other Tesla vehicles are very attractive. Reminds of me the brutalism art stuff which is literally commie art designed to make you feel oppressed. So extra reason not to like it. Only EV I would be interested in owning that new hummer EV.

There is no doubt that if a sober driver were in the driver's seat, they would have applied the brakes immediately when the car left the road, and possibly steered in a manner to avoid hitting the tree.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 41 ▼
– hitchhiker 41 points 5 years ago +41 / -0

There is a weight sensor in the driver's seat and a torque sensor in the steering wheel. If you leave the seat, autopilot will disengage immediately. If you take your hands off the wheel it will disengage in a minute or so. They also say it was traveling at a "high rate of speed", but autopilot will not go more than 5mph over the limit on surface roads. Something doesn't add up here.

permalink save report block reply
▲ 11 ▼
– Lapstrake 11 points 5 years ago +11 / -0

These are excellent points.

I didn't know any details about Tesla's autodrive, but I thought the story was odd. I didn't think it likely that you could make the autopilot drive at a 'high rate of speed' as in unsafe speeds. I didn't see why hitting a tree with your front bumper would make a Telsa burst into flames.

If this story is fake, then what is the point of it, though?

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 11 ▼
– hitchhiker 11 points 5 years ago +11 / -0

It will go more than 5mph over on highways, but there it is capped at 90mph. If you manually accelerate past 90 with autopilot engaged, it "punishes you" and makes you drive manually until you stop and park.

Don't know what the point of it is, just that the story as claimed doesn't add up.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 1 ▼
– GaIIowBoob 1 point 5 years ago +1 / -0

It doesn't actively stop you going over 90 or turn off AP when you press the pedal but it hand checks constantly so you might as well turn it off. If you aren't paying attention it autopilot jails you and will even turn on flashers and stop the car if you don't respond long enough

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 2 ▼
– hitchhiker 2 points 5 years ago +2 / -0

It doesn't actively stop you from exceeding 90 but it does jail you. At least it did last time I tried. I got used to disengaging it to avoid the jail so maybe it doesn't any more.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 2 ▼
– GaIIowBoob 2 points 5 years ago +2 / -0

I both love and hate the stop and park to turn autopilot back on. But really what other choice do you have when people are pushing the system? Ether stop and behave or drive the car yourself!

Any bad Tesla news story is going to be 10x another car type.

They're pretty secure, though it wouldn't be impossible, I guess. They establish a VPN back to the "mother ship" and will only accept remote commands over that. If someone gained the owner's credentials they could send commands via the API endpoint used by the mobile app, but the capabilities there are pretty limited.

That said, adding the possibility of unauthorized access still doesn't make the story add up.

The torque sensor can be defeated by adding a weight to the wheel. Tesla could absolutely do better there, but if someone’s defeating the safeguard, that’s on them.

You couldn't pay me to own a "gas guzzling lifted Ford", not to mention I've never encountered a single courteous or responsible driver in one of those. I'm sure that anon is a good driver but round here in Houston, you drive one of those you're either an illegal immigrant or a douche.

No, come on dude, that's not at all what it said

Police found one of the passengers in the front right passenger seat, while the other was sitting in the back.

Herman told The New York Times that (as the Times put it) "minutes before the crash, the men's wives watched them leave in the Tesla after they said they wanted to go for a drive and were talking about the vehicle's Autopilot feature.

This was more likely a case of two arrogant pigs who thought teeheehee muh autopilot wAtCH mY cAr dRiVE itZelF.

Like two morons.

So two arrogant, Musk-cocksuckers were trialing an autopilot feature which was created as a gimmick by a greedy company hellbent on gypping rich, arrogrant idiots out of their money.

Everything Elon Musk related ends up being nothing but hot air. Sometimes he's "based" but the above stands. His whole hyperloop rubbish was a very clever pyramid scheme to bilk people, states and counties out of "research" money.

If you can't use common sense, you'll get banned without hesitation. If you're a shill, you fall under this rule. If you're a doomer, you fall under this rule as you just add garbage to the site like the other two. This includes forum sliding.

General Rules

  • Mods will issue NO warnings, followed by temporary bans and/or permanent bans. DO NOT GRIEF THE MODS.

  • Keep posts related to topics Q has raised or that are current.

  • Keep post duplication (especially from other .WINs) to a minimum.

  • HIGH EFFORT, HIGH-INFO posts only! Please respect other readers' time. Please use descriptive titles. No URLs in titles, pls. No clickbait.

  • No fame-fagging; no, "your" post did not get removed! Were you the original author?? Eyes on the prize, people!

  • Memes encouraged, but no low-quality, low-info posts.

  • Keep it honest and accurate.

  • GAW Supporters ONLY. (Sorry, the train had no brakes.)

  • Handshake noobs will be scrutinized by their Q knowledge, sincerity, and respect.

  • Remember, your conduct here represents the Q movement! OUR ENEMIES ARE WATCHING!

  • Please direct all complaints to modmail first!
