are those cows trained sumo wrestlers?
Costco is a wholesale store. Why are they selling stuff that’s not and who in earth around is going to pay those prices when there’s reasonable priced American beef that’s just as good locally grown. What makes theirs so special?
Watch a video on Waygu beef. It's actually really interesting. The cows are practically patented
No american beef is as good as A5 wagyu. This is from someone who loves america, and has eaten wagyu while in japan.
The hipsters are all the rage with Wagyu. And as usual. Know nothing about it. Even see them trim the fat and grind it for hamburgers
Doesn't surprise me, so pretentious and ignorant of quality. Even if I could afford it I don't know if I would spend 99 dollars on a pound of beef but I can definitely appreciate the quality of it.
He tried to justify it as "an experience".
Costco also sells diamond jewelry. So it does sell luxury items.
A5 is like the fanciest Japanese Wagyu.
Welcome to Costco, I love you!
Paying $99 for fat?
Was just coming here to point that out.
The highest grades of steaks have marbling like that. Melts in your mouth and you don’t even notice it’s fat. I have eaten the American version of wagyu and it is excellent. Not $99 a lb excellent, but for what I paid it seemed like a big upgrade over most other steaks I have ever tried.
That steak looks really fatty.
Supposed to be.
Sorry never tried it but it looks all fat, so why? and no way.
I’m right there with ya
The best part is when people who have no idea about Wagyu provide commentary.. yes Rolex watches can be $20k. A platinum 350 outfitted can cost $100,000. And people do buy 5 carat diamond rings.
Yeah those whose value is in material possessions
What caught my eye was regular groceries at reasonable prices, then this insanity right next to it
A5 cubes at Wegmans are $220/lb.

Good price for A5 Wagyu.

So what would make their imported beef so much more spendy and to hold more value than ours?
the way they raise the cows
Steer
good call
Mooving on.
I took Ag cpasses and I was in FFA and 4-H and learned about meat grading and different cuts and I beg to differ
So did I, back in the 80s, didn't your Ag teacher teach you anything about marbling? That's why the meat is so expensive.
Yeah, they did but that was a long time ago. How did you know when I was in high school? Did I say?
I graduated 37 years ago, you're the one who brought up the fact that you were in Ag and FFA to give yourself some credentials, and now you're saying it was a long time ago in order to backtrack after I called you out on it.
Huh? Are they both now obsolete? I guess that kinda dayed me, huh? If so, that’s an absolute crime. They already did away with homec, shop, and of all things penmanship!!
Actually, no cows yet. Only birds so far that me son is raising
Did you research it? Shipping and raising process are high. Not like a local butchered meat animal.
Find a way to sample it. It is the best dish I ever had.
Glad my preferences are produce. My husband and one of my girls are the carnivores. Occassionally are OK
I hate it. It is worse to me. But i under stand the price, the process is expensive and shipping . How OP was surprised just shows no research was done by them.
I thought it was because grazing land is very scarce and expensive in Japan and it was more about the economics than the beef itself but it's supposedly good beef even though I think it's too fatty looking, that's just me though, I like some fat but that makes my chest hurt just looking at it.
I have never even seen a Costco.
Yeah I hope them, Walmart, and the rest of their ilk go the fuck under....Thank God I never saw or been to a Costco. I did have a BJ's Wholesale membership, and could have gotten a Sam's Club membership through jobs I have work, glad I didn't....Fuck all of them!
Well, I guess since I’m not a big meat eater I just can’t imagine ever paying that for meat, even if I had the money. There’s so many more worthwhile things I would spend money on. Helping others would be at the top of my list.
Wow, that's high. We have some state side ranchers raising Wodagyu and they sell it a LOT cheaper.
Here's a link to a local source in Texas. https://midwaymeatmarket.com/images/restaurant/12x18%20Wagyu%20Program.pdf
But the pic was a raised in japan and high quality cut, so price for Japan raised beef with shipping from japan to boot, isn't a comparison to US raised beef.
Agreed on the shipping cost. But not with the suggestion that the local heard is somehow different. They're the same cows. I don't live too far from the ranch they live on and trust me, they get nothing but the very best.
Not if titled "Japanese wagu", like OP's pic of the meat
No, I have issues with this new keyboard. I think it's wagyu. Thanks for giving me the benefit of the doubt, but I'm a veg.
I like my beef frozen, and in sheets, and trolling jack on twitter.
That's hyper-inflation for you!
The only steaks worth the price there are prime sirloin. That would be of course if I still had a membership. 33rd degree mask nazis over there.
$91.00 for 3 Ribeyes last week
Wagyu, who knew: https://files.catbox.moe/08qmi4.mp4

I studied animals and agriculture in high school many years ago and this is wayyyy off the charts crazy
