It should really be called "home-parenting". The state has been increasingly luring parents to hand over their children at earlier ages and for longer periods of time. They use policy to trap parents in a position where they can't afford to raise their own children, then they teach the children that their parents are faulty and inferior. Time to pull that plug.

Beautiful sentiment.

This life where we go to work for 10 hours/day 50 weeks/year and our kids go to school 10 hours/day and we barely see each other is wrong. Our modern society is set up to sabotage human connection.

My son was born nearly 18 yrs ago - I have yet to hand him over to the government to be indoctrinated. He is a fine young man today. I was fortunate enough to be able to afford to Homeschool while my wife stayed at home to teach. For homeschooling to really become a thing, one parent needs to be able to make enough for the whole family while the other parent can stay at home and teach. Otherwise, that perceived benefit of "free" daycare will be too much for a couple to ignore. Only by the grace of God was I enabled to homeschool and now the results are really beginning to speak for themselves.

Some people also homeschool because they believe that better academics can be achieved. This was not my goal. I wanted a good person. I wanted a kind person. I wanted an independent thinker. I wanted one devoted to God. That is why I homeschooled.

I think l your reasoning for Homeschool is pretty damn selfish.

I hope you put as much emphasis on quality of his academic education as you did into your opinion of a good person.

Edit:

Some people also homeschool because they believe that better academics can be achieved. This was not my goal. I wanted a good person.

I am right in saying that his goal is selfish because he doesn't not consider the purpose of EDUCATING or TRAINING our children.

Why did I post in a public forum? To encourage others to homeschool - that it can be done.

BTW, becoming a decent person (as far as society is concerned) and independent thinker includes education and training. You incorrectly assumed I didn't believe in academics. Maybe before flaming me and calling me selfish, you should probably ask a question or two.

Great cause that I support, when done correctly. Your explanation of what Homeschool priorities can be was garbage.

You incorrectly assumed I didn't believe in academics

I never said that. I literally quoted you...

Maybe before flaming me and calling me selfish, you should probably ask a question or two.

I’m a grown adult who was homeschooled K-12 and the blessings that have come from NOT being in public school can’t be expressed enough. I got to learn at my own pace (some subjects being higher than the grade I was in) and didn’t have to deal with peer pressure or bullying, which we all know is running rampant in public schools. I went to co-op with other kids, did sports and other extra things. All of my siblings and I are based, hardworking Americans, thanks to my mothers love for us.

we did not homeschool, however r 4 kids did not hang w school kids. rather, all their soc activity was w great kids of diff ages from r church. yes, this did require extra driving on the part of us parents but we felt it was well worth it to know r kids were hanging w others having the same values etc

they became a very tight , loving, funny group of fine ppl. now my 4 kids r adults, 40-50yo. productive, decent loving...

That was my experience as well. I was still severely bullied in school and fell behind as I had illnesses and some learning difficulty in certain areas. Yet my home growing up would have been worse than ever had I been homeschooled as I grew up in an abusive home

I am a product of public school and hard work. I supplement my Childrens Education with my Wifes help and they outpace their peers handily.

Wasting a valuable resource (such as a school) is ignorant but I know sometimes the value isn't there.

Being engaged with my children, aware of their progress has "blessed" me with two exceptional well educated and well rounded boys. One of them was just excepted into a competitive program at UF, his first and only application submitted.

My point is, and remains, Mr. Pristine here stated Academics was not his Goal in educating his children... You can do both but that didn't even make a long list of priorities. I handle the "Good Person" stuff all the time. Non-stop. Not just when they are at school...

This was not my goal. I wanted a good person.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 5 ▼
– TacticalWitdotcom 5 points 4 years ago +5 / -0

You can do both. My two sons are awesome and blow the doors off academically despite my shortcomings. One great help was no cable, no cell phones, no laptops until they were late teens. This allowed room for creativity, reading, and lots of time outdoors.... but the most valuable thing, in my mind, was the prayer, bible instruction, and explaining the world around them--- spiritual, emotional, mental, as life happened. Meanwhile my husband taught them very practical hands- on skills. I'm super proud of them but don't talk about them much to people I know because their kids are often struggling. I'd feel like a bragadocious ass. People have a hard time being happy for others and when your kid is struggling there can be a lot of pain and regret. I'm grateful for the time with my boys. They're growing up now and I have no regrets.

Good person includes training... My son could probably wipe the mat with you academically. But that's ULTIMATELY not what I wanted. I wanted a good person. There are plenty of smart people that are terribly evil. Call me selfish if you like, but you don't know me or my family. And I think maybe you should learn to bridle your tongue. Good day.

I think you should learn to close your mouth in public if you aren't ready for a conversation.

Your assumptions are laughable and sound a lot like keyboard warrior stuff.

Your statement made you selfish, not me.

If you'd like to amend it and prioritize Academics then you know where the edit button is.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 2 ▼
– hundro 2 points 4 years ago +2 / -0

It's possible that you've miscomprehended their statement. I took it to mean that they didn't focus on the academics as a measure of success, but instead set out to raise their child to be a good adult. I suspect that knowledgeability came as a result of this, regardless. The world is full of intelligent assholes, why would we want to create more?

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 1 ▼
– LiquidRitz 1 point 4 years ago +1 / -0

"Good person" comes as a result of being around good people you respect or trust.

That's a natural occurrence in a "good" household. Education is not.

"Knowledgeabilty" does not just happen because you are a good person/parent/etc...

create more..

Now you are making assumptions and misinterpreting. When my children are "at school" that is their focus. They get all the coaching and mentorship on being a "good person" when they aren't at school.

I tell them "My jaw doesn't hit the floor because you do the right thing. However, you will hit the floor if you are doing the wrong thing."

Him disregarding Academics in Home School is like taking a bath without water.

“Hedge schools”! The Irish did that during the genocide from the British when the teaching of Catholic children and the teaching of the Irish language were punishable by death.

I think we can do better though, in homes, community centers and re-taken school buildings.

I’m not usually in favor of book burnings but when a former government school is re-taken, all materials and records should be destroyed along with any outdated data equipment and software. Useable supplies and equipment should be carefully examined and re-purposed.

I would suggest that you search out the true history of our country. Learn what THEIR sources were for education, observe their level of intellect and that of their children. The Bible was their basic text from which children learned to read and provided a very firm foundation for their precious minds. It undergirded everything and still should. Read about what people such as Thomas Jefferson read. These people make us look like intellectual pygmies; we have lost so much. Those people were WELL equipped for the issues of their day. Our foundations should be similar.

Why would you assume (seemingly disparagingly) that anyone would suggest that the Bible would be the only source of wisdom and learning for children, or adults for that matter?

Jefferson, for instance, was multilingual--4-6 languages from a light search. They were serious about education back then. Homeschooling opens up a vast playground for those fortunate children who participate. Those kids are not held back from anything they might like to learn; most are voracious students.

Seven years ago my kids' school sent a note home telling us that they were going to be teaching our elementary school students about sex.

We sent a note back saying "No thanks, that's our job, just teach them reading, writing, math and critical thinking skills."

They sent a note back saying "No, we'll teach them whatever we want."

I walked into the school the next day and said "I'm withdrawing all three of my kids from school to home school them."

Boy were they pissed. The schools in that state gets paid for how many kids are in attendance for a full day. It's why they hate you pulling your kid out for an appointment and treat you like a criminal to get one of their cavities filled. Losing three kids to homeschooling at the beginning of the year is a big fat deal for them.

He had switched to alternative school in freshman year due to getting bullied and falling through the learning cracks from dyslexia. No one was helping him even on extra programs for help. In the first five weeks doing independent, he finished an entire year of history and math and completed all classes six months early. The teachers were mad at us for pulling him but he did well.

Who Owns the Children? This is important for you all to know.

Blair Adams wrote: WHO OWNS THE CHILDREN? (subtitled "Public Compulsion, Private Responsibility, and the Dilemma of Ultimate Authority," Waco, Texas: Truth Forum, 1991, Fifth edition). The author examines some of the court cases and legal precedents that shed light on this important question. In his "Preface" he writes:

[A]ccording to the courts of this land, ... "A child is primarily" not his parents' offspring but "a ward of the [S]tate"; ... parents hold relationship he owes allegiance to the government"; ... parents serve as a mere "guardianship" which "the government places [the child] under"; ... parental authority must be "at all times exercised in subordination to the paramount and overruling direction of the [S]tate"; ... "the natural rights of a parent to the custody and control of... his child are subordinate to the power of the [S]tate";... in deciding whether parent or State will control a child's education, the child's academic progress under the parents - even as measured by State-approved tests - has been termed by State prosecutors as "irrelevant and immaterial"; and finally ... such legal principles and policies form the basis of all this nation's compulsory education laws. (pp. Xix-xx)

http://voluntaryist.com/backissues/059.pdf

Now you know why the word 'guardian' is used for custodial parents.

In Black's Law Dictionary look up Parens Patriae. Parens Patriae means literally, “parent of the country.” It refers traditionally to the role of STATE as sovereign and guardian of persons under legal disability.

With the birth registration established, the federal government, under the doctrine of Parens Patriae, had the mechanism to take over all the assets of the American people and put them into debt into perpetuity. Under this doctrine, if one is born with a disability, the state, (the sovereign) has the responsibility to take care of you. This author believes that the disability you are born with is, in fact, the birth itself.

And you didn't know that?

The attorney bar association has many secrets that they don't want you to know about. As George Carlin famously said -- "It's a big club and you ain't in it."

There's more.... much more I could add, but I digress.

If the American people actually knew the secrets that the court systems hide, they'd be marching in the streets.

I that is any real part of our legal system, then we MUST change that, like YESTERDAY!!!!

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 2 ▼
– Tewdryg 2 points 4 years ago +2 / -0

Agreed. It's far worse than this though. Common Law is the basis for our Bill of Rights. The Rights are directly from the Creator of nature and our founding fathers recognized and inscribed in writing they recognize these Rights are directly from the Creator.

What I wrote in regards to 'parens patriae' has been a legal argument since the 1840s in the US. The American Bar Association is a subsidiary of the British Bar Association. One can get an idea where this type of ideology originates.

In the past several decades Common Law has been de-emphasized and disfavored for something called 'Positive Law' or 'Law Positive'. Look up 'Common Law Versus Law Positive' to understand our predicament we are now facing in America. It helps answer why so few lawyers are Constitutional lawyers.

Each state has different laws. I am in Virginia and ours are very good, as VA is home to the Home School Legal Defense Association. We have here an organization called HEAV.org. They host a giant homeschool convention each year and there is a graduation ceremony. We did that with our oldest but will skip it for the youngest. Each year we were required to send a letter and a standardized test score in by August 1st. That was it. I picked curriculum and tests. When my oldest applied for college they accepted the transcripts I made and my son's SAT score, along with evidence that I sent in my last letter to the state. That was it. Keep in mind you have 8 YEARs before grades really matter to figure out what you're doing. These 2 resources helped me help my kid get a $90k scholarship: CollegePrepGenius.com (shows you how to take the SAT) and Setting the Record Straight, a book by Lee Binz on doung a transcript. Until high school, figure out what works and enjoy your kids. Those years are priceless. Ps. I used the CAT test each year ordered through Seton Testing... it's the easiest. Math and English only. That SAT prep course got my son's score way up and SATs seem to count for more with colleges when you're a homeschooler. He went from a 1070ish to a 1400. You'll never regret the decision. Ps. A lot of states have clawed their way into controlling as much as they can... and some ignorant parents willingly sign up for options the states have created.... so ask around with other parents in your state.

No problem! I'm so happy for every single kid that gets their childhood back. I wish everone could, I truly do. Take as many days off as you need because you'll quickly find that about 1 hour of your tutoring equals about 10-20 wasted hours in a typical school-- it's really astounding how much more time your kids will get back. Once you see how bloated a lot of curriculums are with busy work... you'll be even more amazed!

This is a state by state thing. The state that we started homeschooling in, had zero proof requirements that you do anything at all. You simply inform your local school district that you're home schooling and that's that.

However, several years later we moved to another state that requires you to give the school system a curriculum that you're using to teach your children.

Read up on your state's home schooling laws... also, expect those laws to get more strict here soon if you live in a blue state. They NEED to indoctrinate our kids to keep their communist momentum going, so they're going to start making it hard to home school soon.

As far as the diploma goes, in most states the best you can get after homeschooling is to take the GED test and get a GED.

This is The Great Awakening. Our community is international, focused on helping ourselves and others walk away from the programming, and return our governments to "by the people, for the people!"

Follow the Law

No posts or comments that violate laws in your jurisdiction or the United States. The Feds are always watching!

No Bad Behavior!

No doxing, including revealing personal information of non-public figures, as well as addresses, phone numbers, etc. of public figures. All GAW users must adhere to the highest standards of conduct, whichever .WIN they are on. If we are notified by other moderators of incivil behavior on other .WINs, you WILL be banned here!

Civil Discussion ONLY**

They want you divided.

They want you labeled by race, religion, class, sex, etc.

Divided you are weak [no collective power].

Divided you attack each other and miss the true target [them].

No PAYtriots/No Self Promotion

Linking or promoting merchandise, fundraising, or spamming personal websites, blogs, or channels is not permitted. Do not attempt to profit from Q or advertise for those who do. Peace is the prize. We do it for free.

Questions and Concerns

All moderation questions and concerns should be submitted via modmail. DO NOT GRIEF the mods.

Expand your thinking

Remember, this .WIN is the public face of the Great Awakening, and, as a member here, you agree to represent the Great Awakening movement against Globalism, Communism and Progressive Insanity in the best, most positive way possible. NOTE: Your comments and posts may become news. Keep it classy!

This is not a 'fringe conspiracy' site: Visit https://conspiracies.win if that's your thing!

No doomers or shills

If you can't use common sense, you'll get banned without hesitation. If you're a shill, you fall under this rule. If you're a doomer, you fall under this rule as you just add garbage to the site like the other two. This includes forum sliding.

General Rules

  • Mods will issue NO warnings, followed by temporary bans and/or permanent bans. DO NOT GRIEF THE MODS.

  • Keep posts related to topics Q has raised or that are current.

  • Keep post duplication (especially from other .WINs) to a minimum.

  • HIGH EFFORT, HIGH-INFO posts only! Please respect other readers' time. Please use descriptive titles. No URLs in titles, pls. No clickbait.

  • No fame-fagging; no, "your" post did not get removed! Were you the original author?? Eyes on the prize, people!

  • Memes encouraged, but no low-quality, low-info posts.

  • Keep it honest and accurate.

  • GAW Supporters ONLY. (Sorry, the train had no brakes.)

  • Handshake noobs will be scrutinized by their Q knowledge, sincerity, and respect.

  • Remember, your conduct here represents the Q movement! OUR ENEMIES ARE WATCHING!

  • Please direct all complaints to modmail first!
