More people need to understand this.

It's one thing to teach your kids basic manners and respecting others by not coughing on them or sneezing on them etc.

It's another to try and force someone to do what you want and shame them for ignoring you.

Who on here EVER deliberately coughed or sneezed on someone. Basic common sense tells you not too. Doesn't take much to figure it out.

This is a great answer. For 2 years, they have crowed about how "masks/vaccines/staying home" is for others. You know what? What are the others doing for me?

I want to work. I want to see my loved ones. I am not afraid of the virus. Why don't others care about that? Why do the others only want what is best for them?

The answer is simple: this was never about logic or reason. It was about others creating a hostage situation with the rest of society. We couldn't shield the most at risk - we had to lock down everyone because it made others feel safer.

Any other time society has faced challenges, it has always relied on the young and vibrant to pull it through. 80 year olds weren't asked to storm the beaches of Normandy. That job was left tot he young and vibrant. So why wouldn't we task the young and vibrant with resuming life, and figuring a way out of this mess, rather than locking them down and screaming at them that "everyone is equally at risk"?

Very well said! This has been my attitude from the beginning. “Wear the mask for others.” Uh, no, that makes no logical sense to me. My favorite argument of 2020 was when people would try telling me we get the flu shot to protect others. 🙄

I care to the extent that I don't want (most) people to get sick. Being sick sucks.

I care enough to have basic manners and take precautions such as not coughing on people and trying to avoid coughing into open air even.

I will not accept subversion of my freedoms, however, when they have to take their own precautions to avoid getting sick.

This notion that getting sick isn't normal and should be feared is in itself deranged too.

You aren't supposed to think and stress about being sick constantly. On its own this is contributing a great stress point on society, and society is perpetuating it

The down votes are because you express the reasonable position that aligns with the ridiculous extremist position that is actually happening. That is often used as a tool that leads to dismissal of an argument by shills in an attempt to divide.

A lot of people here are tired of being dismissed by word games. Don't take it personally.

For what it's worth, I agree with your reasonable assertion and vehemently decry the extremist one. I try to live by two rules. Jesus's admonishment to do unto others as well as Hillel's instruction to temper that with not doing unto others.

If I'm sick, I'm not going to go hang around people because I do care and I don't want to get them sick but if I'm feeling good I will start hanging around people, It is my decision when I decide to go out and hang around people. Everyone should police themselves without commanding others. That being said but to go mental on a disease that is over inflated and bloated with fear is not good.

You mean I shouldn't post on instagram a picture of my at-home positive test with a caption about how brave I am for staying away from my friends and family? I should just shut up about it, stay home until better, without getting any likes?

HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO LET PEOPLE KNOW I THINK I AM A GOOD PERSON?!

I once asked a covid Karen exactly this: "Why is your health my responsibility?" She looked at me like I'd just grown a second head and had literally no answer for this. It was actually pretty amazing to see this woman shut up after squawking about covid being oh-so-awful.

While I agree broadly, let me add some context.

Our health system is highly socialized whether we like it or not. Charity care is built into the pricing at multiple levels. Hospitals and doctors all charge you a bit more anticipating 10-20% of their customers won't be able to pay but still need care. They budget for this.

3rd party payers also take this into account. You may be young and healthy, needing to see the doctor only for an annual check-up, but your premiums help pay for the costs of EVERYONE else that company covers. And this is true of the public programs in Medicaid and Medicare as well.

Ultimately, the healthy end up footing the bill for the sick. And preventative care is the most cost-effective thing you can do. Vaccines are seriously one of the most cost-effective treatments we have in medicine. They're cheap as hell and they save atrocious amounts of money in acute care that isn't needed because of disease prevented. That's reality when the vaccines are safe and effective. I make that caveat because when the vaccine isn't effective or isn't safe, it changes the calculus - and the jury's still out on the COVID vaccinations as far as I'm concerned. I don't trust the official data one bit.

Regardless, until and unless we fix the entire healthcare system to hold you personally responsible for your individual healthcare choices, the vaccine advocate has a point (again, see above caveat). People who refuse basic preventative healthcare cost us all. This includes the fat bodies who won't exercise or put down the chicken, the smokers and drinkers who won't quit, etc.

Can’t upvote this enough! This is the whole premise of the shitshow we are in. Individual rights. We have a generation (or two) of coddled babies who are now “adults” who want big daddy government to take care of them and who will do the government’s bidding. We are a nation of individuals, collectively, we are strong together because we espouse our right to be free (or at least, we used to be). Go take of yourself, I’ll take care of me.

Exactly the problem. People have long been conditioned in everything they see and hear to believe that other people are responsible for their happiness and wellbeing. Whenever something goes wrong it their lives, their first thought is that someone else is to blame, and that didn't start with covid.

Conditioned is the right word. This is an imposed slave mentality that depends upon outside influences to feed, clothe, house them, and make them safe, and it cuts off any ability to think of their own solutions for providing these things. They have given their own power away to the point where they don't believe they have any, except for what they might bully others into doing for them. It is the twisted logic of socialism that sounds like wisdom and compassion, but it is only the fragrant cheese in the trap.

The truth about their situation is even worse than that because it also screws them up spiritually. It is impossible for them to connect with God until they get this straightened out because taking responsibility for one's own actions and attitudes is where one starts to make that connection. No lie comes from God, and He doesn't connect with them, so lying to one's self creates a circuit that can only loop around to connect with one's self (effectively making a person his own god). That circuit is only unplugged when a person recognizes truth, admits that it is the truth, and begins to want it no matter how damaging it is to the lies he or she believes.
