He has been a stepping stone for many. Shapiro is someone you start with, he's safe as he's, like you say, uniparty.. he's not all that based but for someone starting to branch out, Shapiro and his "thug life" videos of lefties takedowns on social issues are what make the chicken cross the road.
After than, you may go to crowder because he's still entertaining and a personality, but already more based. He has a way of making based stances sound like common sense rather than conservative (with the baggage that word carries to lefties).
Or someone like bongino, he's fact-based and makes great arguments, but still avoids certain topics or questions quite a bit.
But those are stepping stones that bring people to the greener pastures.
I started with Shapiro myself and then found Crowder, but identify with Steven 100% more. He's always been more based than Ben, not to mention Ben's questionable motives. I don't dislike the rest of the DW crew, but consider all of them 'entry level' conservatives. We need patriots and America First policies, no exceptions.
Edit: and you're right that Crowder has a great way of distilling issues down to a more 'common sense' approach. His 'change my mind' series is a great example.
