You're right; I used a VPN to put myself in the US, and now instead of the app just failing with a "Something went wrong" error when I create an account, I'm at waitlist #19,950. Such progress!

I don't think the backend is activated yet for creating accounts. Presumably they'll flip the switch on Monday.

Not just VPN, you need to switch your app store to US. Its a bit of a hassle.
Not available in the Japan App Store yet either. I had to log in using my old US Apple ID to access the US App Store to get it.
I'm assuming they'll roll it out to global App Stores gradually.
