So let them attempt to implement a carbon footprint tracker system that begins to seriously affect our way of life and let's see how things end up.

Whatever happened to Jack Ma after they threw him in that concentration camp? Is he still there? He really tried to compromise with the CCP and work with them, but their jealousy over his success and charisma was simply too much for them.
