I just opened the task manager on Firefox to check, and GAW uses practically no CPU resources. I have a couple dozen tabs open, including three .win sites, and none of them use a measurable amount.
The problem is with your computer. I just checked, and my CPU usage is at 3%. I have 28 Brave browser windows open right now (side hustling) and a music program shuffle playing over 300 songs.
Sometimes my internet goes down when I have GAW open via Brave without my VPN. Then it goes back up when I close the window. There is something to it, but it doesn't happen enough for me to lose sleep over. Let's face it, everyone here is being tracked one way or another. When this is all done I would love to see my unredacted file.
Ghost. I noticed my computer was hot yesterday. Just sitting there doing nothing, I thought. I rebooted it and unplugged the power in case the battery was overcharging. I will keep track from now on. Yes, you may be on to something.
Lol. You have a windows operating issue. It shouldn't go past 100% as that would be 100% of what it's capable of... but windows sucks with math so it's happened before. Its unlikely a website has the power to do what you are saying unless you are using some sort of extention like hangouts by Google can make it look like chrome is taking 40% of a gpu.
It is my habit to hit "new" and then scan down one screen page at a time until I see a non-virgin link (different color). Then I scan back up at my leisure to catch all the interesting stuff since my last visit.
If I scan down by more than 3 or 4 pages of virgin articles, the cpu definitely struggles. If it's been overnight or a couple of days, getting to the oldest new content is a recipe for an overheated cpu.
Running Dissenter and sometimes Safari on a Mac Mini.
Have you tried a non-Chromium based browser? Firefox maybe?
It's surprising to hear that Brave is eating 15% CPU at minimum - mine reports between 0.0-0.2% CPU usage on idle. 15% seems like too much, unless your hardware is really old or perhaps Brave just isn't optimized well for Linux.
I upvoted your post for visibility but I'm not able to replicate the CPU issue.
I'm running the stable branch of Brave on Windows 11 with only a single GA tab open - Task Manager is reporting between 0.0-0.5% CPU usage. I've even disabled Brave Shields.
Granted, I haven't tried leaving the site open for an hour. Does your CPU spike right away, or does it take a while for the problem to occur?
Haven’t had any cpu usage issues with this site using Brave on iOS, Linux Mint, Windows 10, and MacOS.
Open your developer tools in brave and use the performance monitoring. You can check cpu and memory utilization of JavaScript that way.
Chances are it’s not the website, since most don’t have an issue with it. I haven’t seen any crypto mining scripts running… is it possible you got a compromised binary for brave?
Try redownloading and verifying the checksum. Other than that, try various other websites, video streaming, social media, etc, and see if you can find a common link.
There's SO much more likely to be wrong elsewhere:
If this site - in particular - had any serious issues like this there would be 100+ people hollering about it...

BTW, I also use AdBlock.

PS: My computer is over 10 years old, and is a desktop that I built myself.
Yo rig can’t handle all the KeKs bro. Jk. Might just be dying or full of virus / spyware.

PEBCAK

It's almost always defender or the browser add on
This has been a truth statement by donny fiasco.
Are you sure you're not mining crypto in the background?
Open terminal: Htop.
Check the processes and check their CPU usage ...
And your hardware config would be indispensable to know.

If you had Windows you can easily see what processes are using your CPU and it's percentage.
Although unless it's set to "turbo" or OC as needed, how does it get to 111%?!
My little Surface Go w/Core M3-8100Y, 18 tabs open in Edge, and Outlook open, CPU usage bounces around but well under 30%
THere is a 3rd party cookie for this site...authentication.win
That's what i found...
Maybe someone is spying on you specifically. Do you have another computer? Try that
maybe the federales are taking a peek.

Are you running a dark mode extension? I know Dark Reader on Firefox does not play nice with this site, chewing memory in vast amounts as well as CPU.

If it's Windows it's most likely rogue defender running in the background... Browser add on

Just a thought - Do you get the same issues with "Community Styling" turned off?
Running dissenter with 16 tabs open, GAW on two of them, and backed up for twenty pages or so. 0.4% cpu use.
I'm guessing your CPU issue might be because you don't have enough memory and it is swapping out pages to the hard drive?
