The entire economy depends on cheaper fuel.
That is a weak structure... Of course our economy was always built on sand...
Lucky for us we have gobs of oil gas and coal, much much more than people realize.
The modern world depends -- and by that I mean "to stay alive" -- on cheap and reliable transportation.
For foodstuffs and the inputs to CREATE foodstuffs
For medicines, including those like insulin needed for many to stay alive
For the zillion inputs required to make computer chips
For the other zillion inputs required to make the rest of the computer and computer-like products
For oil and natural gas
For oil and gas derivatives (gasoline, diesel, plastics -- really, think about how many things are made from oil or gas, including nitrogen fertilizer)
Did I mention food?
I've been looking for a deal on wire to run out to my shop so I can use the welder for a long damn time now. Never in my life did I think 200' of wire would be so beyond attainable
It's fucking grim, and every time I look it's grimmer.
I'm not sure how I think about this yet. My FedEx delivery man shows up at night (last time came 11:30 PM). Never delivered before 10 pm. Last time I spoke to him I said that a knock on the door that late at night scares me...am I being swatted? He looked at me sadly and said he's doing all that he possibly can. I felt sorry for him.
That would cause major upset. Not that UPS or Amazon would complain.
Not mentioned in the story, USPS and UPS are also on the brink of collapse. FedEx might be first.
USPS has been on the brink for 20+ years or more. So that news isn’t particularly surprising.
UPS is surprising though.
They'll just throw a trillion at it anyway
USPS, yes. UPS, nope - still buying airplanes.
Buying things does not indicate that a business is necessarily doing well, especially at the scale of a company like UPS.
Eh, Amazon likes to hand off to other couriers for cheap. They do favor USPS, but still.
Because Amazon is basically subsidized by USPS.
The government likes Amazon because it destroys mainstreet; that is its sole purpose, to become the mega “Company store”. It’s simply has to outlast the others & consolidate after the “great reset”. Their New HQ resembles the Tower of Babel for a particular reason.

This dystopian new distribution center in Mexico looks like the future they have in mind for us!
“Welcome to Amazon. I love you”
I wonder where they put all the people that were displaced to make the room to build that. You know that was likely covered in shacks just like the surrounding blocks.
That is freaking depressing. Amazon has got to go down.
They have been falling apart for some time. I remember delivery dates that kept changing, and general screw-ups. I have been avoiding them. UPS seems better run.
Exactly, their inability to deliver to the correct address isn’t helping them.
And the critical infrastructure dominoes begin to follow the oil.
INTENDED CONSEQUENCES
THIS.
The ground portion of delivery operations is the backbone of the operation. Even overnight delivery uses some ground because you need a way to reach the final destination. Also, ground is needed to reach the air terminal when you send out the package.
Correct. Doorstep-to-doorstep service requires an initial and final interface that is on the ground. Unavoidable (unless you are using aerial drones).
They have that for delivery and for returns. I think Kohls is a return site, and there are sites with lockers for pickup, which are also supposedly safe from porch pirates.
Mmmmm.....The problem is that it is not really pleasant to go to such places. I have to go to Walmart because they are the only one I can find that carries a cat food that I need for my diabetic cat. If it wasn't for that, I would never go there. The checkout line is a disgrace. It is a horrible experience. (Kohl's I don't know about.) I live about 5 miles away and with stoplight traffic and finding parking, it is a 15-minute trip one-way. Even though I regard drone delivery with skepticism, I can see where it is preferable over going to a box store.
My theory is the deep state is out to get FedEx, you know ruin them well other bought and paid for delivery services get a pass?
Just a thought...
Explains why none of my orders shipped with FedEx have showed up on time over the past 6 months. Even priority early am overnight orders (which cost $350-500 for shipping).
The amount of Crystal meth mailed to Hawaii via FedEx and usps is out of control.
Good riddance.
If you get rid of FedEx… All you have left is UPS, and USPS. We’re both of those involved in ballot trafficking? Now it all makes sense!
Imagine I order online all the time and I returned at the store when it doesn’t fit which is most of the time. Plus I am very slim and my size is not in the stores.
Just use them more be kind & tip them ever so often
Amazon willl buy them
That might be the plan.
