Imagine the blackmail they must have on these goofballs with guns for them to keep going along with this farce. They know they're cheating and they know the world is watching them do it. They must be shit humans with a lot to hide.
I think that the bigger issue than blackmail is simply hiring people in these jobs who have no clue about what their oath of office means, are too stupid to understand it if it was explained to them, and too sociopathic to care.

I'm not looking at anything, I'm remembering an old acquaintance who would mention being a deputy, but not an hourly day by day one. I have an SUV that used to belong to the MCSO. It was never any kind of prisoner hauling vehicle, two seats, a winch, and full of sand when I got it, and he said it was what they used to use, so I'm assuming desert patrol.

Police = city
Sheriff = county
Police chief = hired by mayor, city manager, or city council
Sheriff = elected by the People
Both sheriff and police chief can be corrupt or honest, but usually easier to replace a corrupt sheriff than a mayor/city council and police chief.
It's also easier for the Sheriff to flip the bird to higher authority and say "I will uphold the law as I've sworn to do so."

AZ has one of the worst voting system. Az needs to go back to precinct voting. I guess they changed how it is done just a few elections ago and it sucks. As of last night when I went to bed they had not even started counting the day Of votes yet in the larger areas.
