I went into the USAF and got my dream assignment - to work on the military shuttle program at Vandenberg AFB. But after Challenger blew up, the program was cancelled. Supposedly it was going to be used to launch military satellites in polar (instead of equatorial) orbits, but they launched them already with Titan and Atlas rockets.
The technicians from the company that provided the product that "failed" begged NASA not to use it improperly. NASA ignored them and the Challenger came down. Then NASA blamed the company and many good people were put out of work. Gov corruption at work.
There’s a great documentary series on Netflix about this. It’s probably on YouTube also. A man working for a company that made parts for the shuttle knew something was going to happen and he kept insisting to NASA the parts were defective. The head guy was interviewed in this doc and he insisted NASA wasn’t at fault. The parts manufacturer was in Alabama. I didn’t want to watch it but hubby did, glad I did.
From what I recall (memory not perfect), but the guy was an engineer with the company that made the "o rings", which apparently (or so we were told), was what caused the Challenger to crash. Again, from recall, it was due to the cold weather conditions that morning, and the engineer in question told NASA it wasn't safe because the o rings weren't made for colder weather.

I've always wondered why people really care about planes and where they are. I mean, if habbenings were habbenings... wouldn't they turn off the transponders to prevent folks from figuring out what those habbenings were? 🤷♂️

But sometimes the military likes to do fun little things like when I caught a C17 cargo plane squawking 7500 a month after the election steal in 2020
This was significant for many reasons, because 7500 is the universal transponder code for "THIS PLANE HAS BEEN HIJACKED". It only squawked it for a couple seconds then switched back to a standard transponder ident code. I had seen C17s doing this for several days prior, and this was the first time I was fast enough with my keyboard to actually grab a screenshot in time. Also, they did it at precisely 9:11 PM, which I thought was pretty cool. This was the military telling me and anyone else watching that they were fully aware that our nation was being hijacked. Also worth mentioning, the whole reason I was obsessing over watching the sky at that point in time was because a pathway I had found using the Q-Clock and Trump tweets had specifically told me to.
That night was the beginning of the most amazing month of my life...but that's a story for another time.
