U.S. Military Releases Dramatic Video Of Russian Jet Colliding With MQ-9 Reaper Drone Over The Black Sea - Accidentally Exposes ...
The United States military recently released a dramatic video showing a Russian fighter jet colliding with a MQ-9 Reaper drone
So let me get this right, a MQ-9 has a cruising speed of about 190 mph, That SU-27 was approaching this lead sled of a drone with no flaps down or speed break extended, yet it passed over the drone dumping fuel with not even a high nose angle to keep it from just falling out of the sky at that slow speed? For the SU-27 to come close to the drone without just flying past it at high speed it would need full flaps and speed break with a nose up angle because the SU-27 at 190 mph is on the razors edge of departing flight. I'm calling total BS with this video.
SU-27 stall speed is around 125mph. The SU-27 is coming from the rear, so its probably going maybe around 350mph (assuming MQ-9 is going 200mph).
The video may be BS, but I don't think this reason is conclusive.
The Russian jet could have approached from the drone's front sector. It wasn't necessarily an approach from astern; this would obviate speed criticality.
Approaching from the front would have made the closure speed that much faster, and hitting the fan on the back of the drone would be a death sentence for the SU-27 because it would have been a total midair collision.
seems like it was sweeping in as an arc to the drone's tangential path.
You sound like you are well versed fren. Tell me, how far away from the shore do you think this incident supposedly occurred? Land can be seen in the video. My understanding is that it was close to Crimea - but how close? US is claiming they were in international waters. All Russia is saying is that it was too close. Given what has taken place in Crimea, it does not surprise me that the Russians are not happy with us nosing around so close to their military installations.
It looked like it might have been around 20 miles from Crimea. That's enough for Russia to shoot it down.
Thanks, and I agree. Russia has been very restrained and measured in their responses. However, this is not unusual. Everybody is spying on everyone else at any given moment. Crap is bound to happen once in awhile.
I think I heard a news blip that it was 70 miles from land. US propaganda most likely. Video does look suspect.
Why do I think this is fake? 💁🏼♀️ why is our government so eager to release video of this incident? I’m not buying it sorry.
They are trying to get their little WW going…
My take is that it's real, but we probably provoked it by being pretty nosy. Monkeywerks said that he wasn't surprised it was taken out because of where it was. I bet we push the boundaries a lot with these things, since they're expendable.
Trigger an event, capture it, and then beat the drum for more funding and a war nobody wants.
After the first pass the prop blades look OK but after the second pass at least one blade is badly bent.
See 00:39 of the video.
When I saw it posted originally, my first thought was maybe it was an Arma shit post. It doesn't make any sense like @Bedminster said.
Anyone else think its interesting these videos got released so fast. ?
Not now that I understand that, if they released it, they wanted us to see it to further their agenda.
This will be used to incite another Gulf-of-Tonkinesque incident.
The playbook. A little incident that may or may not have happened is hyped up and exaggerated.
Secretary of Defense lies to Congress about the seriousness of the issue.
Congress believes the Secretary of Defense and opens up the checkbook and we officially go to war.
Wash. Rinse. Repeat.
It's not worth going to war over a drone.
Agreed. It's not worth going to war over Ukraine. Russia/Putin can HAVE it.
But a war will cover the financial crisis nicely. There is more at play here than just a drone. It will be used if needed.

Interesting video, but oh my Lord, that is some piss-poor writing! Where did she get her degree, from a Cracker-Jack Box?
FORTE10 had been poking the bear everyday for at least 2 years.
It shows how patient the Russians are that they let the West believe that somehow it’s okay to launch a drone to within inches of a recognised international border.
Those Rivet joints that fly out of the UK will be next.
I talked to a soldier 5 years ago who said they were flying drones close to Russia back then, but being careful not to piss off Putin too much.
Do they get very close? There are a lot of people on those planes. Bad optics.

According to RT there was no collision between the drone and jet.
American media is propaganda. Yes it’s that bad we are THE laughing stock of the earth.
Speaking of starting a WW, where is the mysterious 777 Malaysian plane. Ready for take off using a dirty bomb?
That looks exhausting
I wonder if there is something that they could release from a "fuel" tank to disable a balloon??
Nah. SU would have suffered. Other question is who took the video?
And at what point are we to assume that the “drone” actually crashed? If you ask me, that “drone” seemed to just continue on its merry way.
at :29 seconds in the video...the drone camera ALREADY started to go out and you can see almost all of the jet still. Looks fake. You would think if the drone was hit..the camera would have been moved..therefore the video would have been moved..at least a little bit..before it started to go out. Also, I think you would see a lot more of that jet (being way closer) if it were to hit.
Whatever happened to the Russian fighter jet? Did it sustain any damage? Was it able to land safely?
I doubt it would have caused any damage to the Russian jet. You can definitely see the prop is bent on the drone on the second fly by. If, of course, the footage is actually real.
I hope the Russian jet and the pilot are ok. One advantage of being awake is you know who the good guys are.
The Russian jet didn't 'collide' with the drone.
The jet went in front of the drone, released some of its fuel and pissed on it! Apparently, the action broke one of the propellors and bent another one which had the effect of sending it down to Davy Jones' locker.
What a novel, but effective, way to deal with an object that is illegally spying on your territory.
All I gotta say is “These people are stupid.”
Now the world knows how to down an American drone simply and cheaply. No missiles needed.
I don't think the MIT PHD design engineer ever thought hosing down the drone with jet fuel was a viable attack strategy.
I noticed the jet didn't just settle down in front of the drone and just throw up a cloud of fuel in front of it. Too much risk of creating a fuel air bomb using the drone as an ignition source. Very smart. Also, if it did what they planned it to do, overspeed the turboprop engine, the drone would end up in the back seat of the fighter. Very smart again.
There was a time they said they lost video for 30 seconds or something. The turbine engine probably over sped due to a massive increase in fuel in the combustion chamber and circuit breakers started tripping and safety shut offs kicked in. So, either the turbine would start throwing ceramic metal blades through the engine casing or... it would severely over torque the propeller, bending and throwing blades there.
No fighter pilot in their right mind would risk their aircraft or themselves rubbing against a high speed turboprop with the aircraft belly. I think the unlikely scenario of dousing the drone with fuel caused an overspeed condition that destroyed the propeller.
They did this over water. More and larger parts to recover vs scattered across a few miles of dirt and be about the size of a pinky fingernail. I also wonder if the same engineer that designed the drone designed the self destruct, if it has one. Why would you need to waterproof the detonator, its an aircraft not a submarine. So, critical components are probably intact.
The Russian officer that came up with this attack strategy is going to get a medal. This was not amateurish or unprofessional pilot behavior. I think someone carefully thought this all out and implemented it to snag a drone.
Am I the only one who thinks this looks like CGI?
First off they likely do not share the Highest Resolution footage because its capabilities are classified.
Secondly this is the footage that was being streamed back to the controller. Lower resolutions can be transmitted at greater distances.
