Anyone against this ruling is racist. If the left believes that a particular race can’t compete on merit, because of their race, then the left is racist. It seems like the left thinks that people with a certain skin color are less than, that they’re not good enough, not up to par. That’s the definition of racism.

There are free libraries in every community. If you value learning, the opportunities to learn exist, and they’re free. If you value academic achievement, you will work towards and reach those goals. Poverty is not an excuse. People aren’t held back by their race, nor by their skin color, nor by their ethnicity. People are held back by their culture, by their morals and values, or lack thereof, and by the traps that people choose to step into. True, if you grew up poor, you didn’t summer in the posh area and rub elbows with the elite. Your school may have had holes in the roof. Yes, it’s harder, much harder to grow up poor in a bad neighborhood with the lowest standards for humanity all around you. No denying that. But if, in the midst of that, you want to achieve, the opportunity is there. So often families and communities are the ones keeping themselves down, while pointing the finger of blame at everyone else. Bottom line: Drill a love of learning and achievement into your kids, along with the work ethic they’ll need to take off like a rocket.

I disagree...white males ARE held back in the Aviation Industry...so people are held back because of their race!

So much of this is mindset. I've been on both sides of this: success that seems to flow easily and failures that seem endlessly unfair. I was lucky to have the kind of parents you're advising us to be. They sacrificed to give me opportunities. They embraced education constantly, encouraged curiosity, nurtured independence, taught discipline, and gave me the opportunity to go to college when I had earned it. No, they didn't pay for private school. If I wanted that, I had to take out student loans, so I went to a state school. Again, my parents taught me the value of money and how to invest wisely. I missed out on something I wanted and felt I deserved (at a very prestigious school), but I didn't really. I got a great education.

Then I ran into struggles where things didn't come so easily. I wanted to get into a professional school. I went through multiple rounds of applications. I spent thousands on the standardized testing, test prep, application fees, consultants to help me craft better personal statements. It didn't work. There was a giant brick wall in front of that path. I had to take a "lesser" job to get by and for far longer than I wanted to. There are times when I felt like the world just was against me. I had everything on paper I was supposed to need. Dual degree. Minor in Spanish. Extracurriculars. Relevant work experience. Top 90th percentile test scores. But I couldn't get in anywhere.

There are two ways to deal with adversity like this.

  1. Is the way so many of us are told to do today. Recognize yourself as a victim. The system's screwing you. You've got the wrong skin color, the wrong genitals, or the wrong sexual preferences. The world just hates you because of who you are. In psychology, they call this an external locus of control. Everything that happens to you is outside of your control. And it's absolute poison because once you accept that idea, you have to accept the hopelessness that it implies. You can't succeed and you never will. It utterly destroys your spirit. If you've ever felt that way, you know how it makes you feel: scared, useless, hopeless, apathetic, ambitionless. Why try if you're destined to fail?

  2. Is the classic way Americans used to think about the world. Recognize that bad things happen to everyone, but you pick your ass up off the floor, dust yourself off, and try again. No, you don't repeat the same mistakes you just made. You learn from them and try a new approach. You take ownership of your successes, but also of your mistakes. Failure isn't the result of the world trying to screw you. It's the result of you simply needing to find the right way to do it. That's the internal locus of control, and it's empowering. If you're the one in control of your actions, you can succeed if you just try harder and work smarter. Get help. Think outside the box, but don't give up because success is just a matter of time.

I've been in both places mentally in my life. And when I say that first mentality is absolutely soul crushing, it was for me. Despite all the paper in the world that says I shouldn't fail, I did and got hopeless, and there's not a drug on the planet that was going to fix that either. We have to teach ourselves as a society, kids and adults, that second mentality. And more importantly is that we have to recognize when we see others trying and failing and sliding down that path to reach out. It's terribly hard to break that negative mental state. I had help. I had a family who stood by me and showed me. I'm not a success story quite yet, not the way you'd want to tell it in a movie or something, but I'm out of the shitty, demoralized mental state and I'll take that as a start.

You can say a lot about what President Trump did or didn't do about the deep state, but the fact that he was able to be there at the perfect time to get 3 more conservatives in the bench was miraculous. Couldn't imagine the damage that a Clinton presidency and a progressive loaded court would've done

As a Recruiter involved in the hiring process, this is great news but I know from experience that hiring managers mostly all suffer from some types of hiring bias. At least they won't vocalize the discrimination out loud anymore in the name of Affirmative Action.

SAT is a useless test that should be removed. We need more trade schools and make things hands on:

I think the major problem with math. A lot of the higher math is taught without giving much context on why you need to know it.

The school system needs a complete overhaul.

It’s useless because knowledge isn’t static.

How do AI computers work? They work by failing 1000s of times and adjusting from each failure.

You do need it to be able to control supply and demand of schools. Meaning they do not have enough spots to accept everyone.

that’s all it’s good for.

I agree that higher math should not be a part of most degree programs. Very specific careers need to know it. It's like making open heart surgery a prereq for any degree

I am much better at math now because I need to use it for data science education.

When I was in high school and even college. I didn’t see the point of going over basic algebra.

Most universities dropped the requirement to provide an SAT score at all over the last several years, beginning during covid. Now they use the term "holistic admissions."

In any case, people need to rise to the best they can do, not have the bar pulled down to where they are. This is destroying our country.

The only reason the left supports affirmative action is they don't believe minorities have the genetic intelligence to compete on a level playing field.

Success is not necessarily tied to genetic intelligence. Hard work can take you a long long way. Now we are back to who wants it more, and how hard are you willing to work to get it.

Success is a subjective term.

Measuring success depends on what KPI metrics are important to the each organization.

Success is a measure of what each individual wants to achieve in their life. Some are successful with what others would see as failure, and some never believe they are successful even if they are the envy of everyone around them.

Success as I was using it is being financially stable, and comfortable. Being happy with what you did with your personal time here, and to some degree how well you did in your career. It is slightly different for everyone depending on what they value.

Finally...maybe soon we will get rid of all women pilots! Tried to get on with United in the early 90's and a good friend on the inside said I was passed up for a woman with a decades less experience than me and less total time simply because she was a female! It worked out in my favor in the end because working for United is a shit job anyway, but the joke in the aviation industry was quote..."The only way to get hired as a pilot with United was to be a Black Female with a Mexican Surname!

Because there is a whole new set of rules about how and why you get admitted. Congressmen and Senators get yearly appointments providing the appointee can pass the physical and academic requirements. The criteria and procedure used to choose the appointee depends on the congressman and senator. Courts can't proscribe this sort of thing to the legislature. The children of admirals and generals can get appointments with the same physical and academic requirement and I think medal of honor winners' kids can get an appointment.

A Meritocracy, if you will allow.

A Meritocratic Republic sounds much more workable than "mob rules".. ie pure democracy.

mer·i·toc·ra·cy [ˌmerəˈtäkrəsē] NOUN

government or the holding of power by people selected on the basis of their ability:
"progress towards meritocracy was slow"
    a society governed by meritocracy:
"Britain is a meritocracy, and everyone with skill and imagination may aspire to reach the highest level"
a ruling or influential class of educated or skilled people:
"the relentless advance of the meritocracy"
