Bam!! (45th 👍🏼). I got to go to Greenland on a mission to Iraq. It was July and although icebergs littered the fjord the hills surrounding were green. Mosquitos were like hawks too. Absolutely gorgeous place…I’ll look for pictures later & will post. I cheered when 45 made that comment and truly hoped it would happen. Arctic gateway full of rare earth minerals, and truly beautiful people. Denmark has done nothing for them but abuse.
I’m with you. Greenland would do well to be the 51st state. When Trump mentioned it I was full of hope. I’m planning to visit next year. Those folks are sitting on a gold mine and could be living much better.

IIRC that message ultimately got decoded to infer a reference to cartel/CIA-run growing and smuggling operations of weed (green). I don't remember the details though, and I've read enough of these to be open to different interpretations.
I was think more along the lines of a reference to Thule AFB on the glacier in northern Greenland that is used to house nuclear-armed bombers to threaten Russia as part of our nuclear triad. It seemed reasonable that when Russia's pushing towards the Arctic that we'd also make some countermoves. I've also heard rumors of large mining reserves beneath the glacier, but that's sort of worthless right now since there's a mile-thick block of ice to chip through before you could start drilling through actual rock.

Greenland is a huge strategic location for the Arctic and therefore communications with space satellites. There has been a huge push by countries to control the Arctic though it has been a bit hidden from the public. I highly recommend listening to the podcast linked below:

If you listen to the podcast China has had quite a struggle getting a foothold in the Arctic but they've been succeeding.
