I was talking with a neighbor this morning, who works for a local city(small sized), and he was telling me that the EPA is going to require testing on all city water lines of the town we live in to make certain the lead levels are at or below the required levels mandated by Congress. Well, our local water supply is constituted of two inch metal pipe installed in the 50's, 60's. and 70's. They ran all main water lines in front of the houses and then at the meter pit it branches off into the houses. Now, it is incumbant upon the water district to do the testing on their water lines to make certain the led levels are at the recommended levels. The EPA instructed the water district to do the tests and then submit the results to them before next October.
Now here comes the rub, the EPA is instructing the water district to figure out how much lead is in the pipes within each house. Since this is an older neighborhood, all of the water supply lines within the walls of the house are copper with lead solder. So how will the water district test each house? We don't know but it was mandated so all we can figure is that the water district will come into our houses and take(forcefully if necessary) water samples from EACH tap.
My house is of new construction and I made darn certain I used PEX throughout, plus I had to pay the water district a huge amount of money to reroute their main line from running inside of my foundation. Ugh.
I do not know how this will pan out because 99% or the local population has not heard of this EPA request, yet. But I imagine when the word spreads there will be a collective howl of "Stay out of my house". We shall see, but I do not think this will end well.
Just wanted to relay this story so maybe it will give you pedes a heads up on what might be coming down the pike to your areas. Big Brother is trying to gain access to your house for what nefarious reason? Spy on you or maybe just to get the lay out of your house? Be cautious out there.
PEX turns you gay like all plastics do. always use copper it’s a natural disinfectant which means while the water sits in the pipe any bacteria get killed.
PEX is so easy to install.
Only a real man can solder copper pipe.
I suck at it. Real men who hate f'n soldering ,pay real men to do it for them. Or just use those sharkbite connections. Idiot proof
I hear you. Was more of a joke but they do come in handy... in the basement. I've never practiced soldering and I typically do my own stuff. Aggravating. Until those Sharkbites came along. ;)
Second the suggestions of u/Thefrogestsfree and u/NOTWOKE…
Recent attempts to “save time” using a crimp-style connector reminded …
It was well worth the trip to the hardware store for a US-made soldering iron and ALL recommended accessories.
Relatively simple for the unvaxxtarded IF:
If not, well, there’s always “call The Guy…”
All pex related fittings, hoses, etc... available in hardware stores have the PROP65 lead warning and are made in china...
Wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they are deliberately "contaminating" their product. Recent recall on stainless drink cups because of lead https://www.usatoday.com/recalls/consumer-products/CPSC-9762/
EVERYTHING has the ridiculous Prop65 warning.
Don't use copper pipe with reverse osmosis (RO) water. Also if you have a line to your refrigerator from your RO system, be sure it is not copper. You will end up with copper toxicity, which is not good.
I often wonder about pex. Literally every new house being built is using pex because of the cost difference.
Tell them to get a warrant if they want inside your house or even on your property.
Better yet, here is the exact way to handle it, short and sweet (warning: f-bombs dropped):

Damn, that was great
Just hand them a bottle of water when they call. Make sure that it's distilled water.
I got a survey from my small town water dept. it asked what kind of pipes were supplying my meter, like I would know what their side is. Also asked if we filter our water and what kind of filter it is. The end of it had a veiled threat that stated if you don’t fill it out they will send a person to my home. It went in the trash. None of their business.
Garden hose.
Every county has an office that will test your well water. Get their sterile sample bottles in prep for the EPA test.
Give it a few years and they'll be telling you your polyethylene is a massive problem and needs to come out because the lesser crested newt has started wearing eyeshadow and tutus...
Wouldn't they celebrate that?
that's what I thought straight after hitting send... nearly did an edit lol
If the county is testing for free, then if you want to know if your house pipes are giving you lead poisoning, you can give them a sample. If not, then sampling the water could be another requirement before selling your house. They don't need to intrude on everyone all at once.
I know that multiple meanings exist, but this is the best explanation of “watch the water” I have ever seen.

They could use an outside spigot. End of problem.
All faucets and fixtures have to be tested. Ugh.
Oh, that’s just not right. :(
You should all dig wells in your backyard.
Fuck ‘em.
Yea, but where I live a few hundred foot well costs $15,000. Lots of $$ because it's through hard bed rock. grrrrrrrr.
You could test the water from the house at the meter pit no problem.
Cut pressure to the house and then test the drain back water? Hmmm...I'll think about that.
Could the condemn a property if the lead levels were too high?
Might not condemn it cause then they'd have to compensate you for the house, but they could force you to pull out all the copper pipes and replace them, I guess. I really don't know, but you do bring up a good question.
Dont drink from tap water, they going to tell me lead will hurt me in shower? GTFO
Keep thinking the huge synthetic venom stockpiles they are hoarding will eventually be dumped into water systems in unison.
Glad I'm on a private well. And it's close enough that I can see if anyone is messing with it!
I imagine the water company will send out home tests, and you donit yourself. I got one in the mail months ago. Did it, sent it in.
