I got an email a few days ago from one of the banks i do business with. It read something like privacy notice and language practices now. I decided to read it and to my astonishment it said that from here on out they would only communicate in English.
Is this a company simply cutting costs? Or is it a sign of the good times coming? I dunno but i found it interesting
Make America English Again.
Congress should have made English the official language back in the '50s when the political will was there. They just lacked the foresight.
it was President Bush that made Spanish our second language. I knew that he was a traitor
Why can't everyone learn to speak American instead of English, a foreign language? /s/
It should be illegal to offer everyday (i.e. non-specialty) products or services in a non-English language here.
It would have been the same issue as abortion. The federal government probably should not have the authority to regulate the states like that, constitutionally, which is why the RvW overturning was the correct response.
I disagree. A national language unites the people of the whole country under one mother tongue. This is an English-speaking country, and requiring all citizens to speak English puts everyone on an equal footing for jobs, education, and daily communication. IMHO we don't needs states with a permanent, toilet-scrubbing, foreign underclass.
Believe me, I understand the practicality of it. It’s not difficult to run into 7 different languages in a single day, anymore.
Our multilingualism as a country does date all the way back to the founding, however, and the law itself, generally applied, could very much be one of those “make me” kind of laws.
Now if someone wanted to make it so that the federal government only offers services and forms in English, and that only contracts written in English are recognized as legally binding in court, that would probably work.
This!
100%. My first language isn't English but it is my primary. English first, America First on every single thing. I'm so fucking sick and tired of feeling like a foreigner in my own country. Every where I go I hear either other languages being spoken all around me or heavy fucking accents, it's disgusting. I get that at least the heavy accents are speaking English but I'm tired of it tbh. I want it to be back to native English that I don't have to bend over backwards to understand wtf you're trying to say.
Make our social security admin do the same and I will concede to some progress.
If people had any idea of the cost of this bullshit, they would run screaming. I would really like this to come out in any sort of "audit" done on government services. All of this Tower of Babel shit must be destroyed.
Now there's something for Musk's government efficiency task force to handle !
Yes. Easy fix, rapid savings. Of course the lawsuits for doing it will probably stretch to the moon and back.
Baby steps. This bank's move is a good step.
True. What bank?
Truth
Both. Cutting cost is really about allowing market forces to do their work, and thats a good sign because it means no external influences.
It also woos people like me.
I actively SHUN gas stations and convenience stores with prominent signs in Spanish!
I BOYCOTT COMPANIES shoving Spanish in my face!
Amusingly, I am, or was, well trained in 4 years of Ivy League Spanish and a couple years of dead languages such as Latin.
In 2024, I associate Spanish speakers with illegal alien invaders, welfare leaches, criminals, shoplifters, and non-compliant mildly belligerent patients.
If I had time to vacation, zero remaining hispanic nations are on my list, nowadays, zero, but if forced... Costa Rica, if a private guard staff on duty

I think supporting more than English exposes them to a lot more than one might initially conclude.
If one supports Spanish, then why not Swahili? Why not Indonesian? It's difficult to justify from a legal standpoint supporting one language that is not English, and not another. Our government (as perhaps is seen most notably at the DMV) has fallen into this trap. And there are race/language hustlers who have set up an entire parasite economy on the back of these policies.
For private/publicly held companies, they have to justify this to their stakeholders/shareholders. It's indefensible. Are you telling me your Warranty says exactly the same thing in these 28 different languages? If so, prove it. if not, why would someone who speaks Bantu get a better warranty than someone who speaks Tagalog? It's a nightmare.
No company ever does anything unless it involves better money for Them
Mine has proven that time again in the 24 years I’ve been there
I like it. Now do all companies and the Catholic Masses. (I live in a rural area where we have both English and Spanish Masses). I only go to the English one.
I’m also gonna stop going to the ones where they do both English and Spanish to appease the Hispanics when we combine the Masses for a celebration of some kind or another.
Let them all learn and speak English as my relatives all had to do when they came to this country.
It's probably not a new thing, they're just making it clear that people shouldn't expect them to offer disclosures and customer service in multiple languages. I used to work for a regional bank, and we had something similar.
This makes sense cya type shit
Now do public schools
It’s coming if the department of education goes bye bye.
i think its beyond crazy how many accommodations the US makes on languages - not just Spanish but other languages as well. I am all for LEGAL immigration (as a naturalized citizen myself) but growing up my mother did not speak English to well so the first language I learned was English so we could learn to speak together, not my "mother tongue". Folks who decide to come and live their life here should adopt the language of the land so they can better assimilate to the societal norms here.
By allowing so many language accommodations lets them continue to live in a manner that isnt consistent with American values. Want to have chinatown or little eithopia? sure go ahead I dont have an issue with that, but seeing billboards and other ads and forms in any other language than English just doesnt seem appropriate to me.
I've been fortunate to travel to most all over Asia and you would never see the same level of accommodation in any of these countries. People may speak English here and there but most everything is in the language of the country/state.
Yeah, the US has pretty much became the cum dumpster of the globe. We try to make everyone happy except it's citizens. I hate our government with a passion.
Probably they had a hard time finding call center people in India who speak Spanish.
Me thinking it has to do with legal wording that these fuctards use against "We The People".
Borders, language, culture. The Micheal Savage mantra.
Somehow, this means more money to the bank.
This is great news!
If you live in America, you should learn to speak English. Period.
Tell us which bank
