I interact with people daily who are returning from 3R missions 90 minutes from me and all of the stories are independently corroborating a death count well into the multiple thousands.
FEMA has some limp-wristed ops in Asheville but it's all locals and regionals providing the assistance. Samaritan's Purse is doing the most good. Red Cross is marginally useful. Small churches are helping out.
CBP was seen by a friend on the ground in Lake Lure looking for illegal child snatchers.
This shitshow is beyond anything I've seen disaaster/recovery wise.
I-40 won't be open to TN for years. They are going to have to reblast the mountains in order to reconstruct sections of highway.
