It may appear that it was weak, but perhaps it was simply preparations for the current time. Would it have been very effective during the Biden hiatus to try to blow the lid off things?

as much as the Durham Report didn't result in the arrests we wanted, if I recall, it did expose how DNC was abusing lawyers and attorny/client priviledge to hide their BS.
They'd have one lawyer from one law firm hire another lawyer at another firm as council to transfer payments and communications back and forth.
If an investigation tried to sopeana the records/communications it was protected.
He also got some juicy info confirmed on record re: Fusion GPS and exactly who ordered the Steele Dossier linking it to HIllary/DNC.
There is no such thing as a special prosecutor. The correct title is Special Council
It is also not required that the AG appoint a Special Council. A president has that authority also.
So why are special councils appointed? They are appointed when there is a conflict of interest in the investigation or prosecution of a potential crime within the executive branch.
Since the Trump administration is not the subject of an investigation in a potential election cheating investigation there, in my view, would be no conflict of interest. In other words, the justice department would not be investigating itself.
So why call or special council??

The issue of Gaetz as a Special Prosecutor would run into the same problem as Jack Smith in the Florida case against President Trump. He would have to be appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate.

Matt Gaetz deserves a position that he will get to the bottom of the smear campaign foisted on him by members of Congress, FBI, DOJ, CIA-all who pretended nothing happened. More than likely the CIA was at the root.
