Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way

I like the depression advice, however Sigmund Freud was crazy, the more I learn about him the crazier he gets. People can drive you to crazy or possibly drinking, especially the s.o.b’s.
...the line between "genius" and "insane" is pretty fine...
Oh yeah it is! Most artists and extremely smart people like scientists, math wizards, serial killers etc are insanely smart but crazy at the same time.
Just like that thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning. It’s one of my favorite sayings from a Jimmy Buffet song Religion, religion. Oh, there's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning He touches on our mental status as well as gov & lots more. Just a fun song about life and people.

...Jimmy was a treasure...
Absolutely! I won tickets once, even in the upper seats he was better than some people l've paid good money for and very close to the stage. I personally don't know of his beliefs other than he was a liberal. At least he didn't shove it in your face. I've listened to him since the 80s and will until the day I leave this earth. Funny thing about him every type of person loved him. He once said his biggest market was Manhattan. Guess the rat race corporate climbers needed a little escape.

💗 That’s my top five favorite JB songs. Pirate looks at 40, One Particular Harbor, Thin Cup Chalice, Last Mango in Paris are the other favs. I’ll probably be listening to him with this winter ❄️ mess coming tomorrow. The beach vibes have been sparked by us talking about him🌴🌊 I always listen to him more in the winter.
You might like Kenny Chesney coastal songs. I believe at least three albums have a coastal vibe. Not quite as unique as Buffett, but they put me into a beach state of mind. He’s country music and really rocks. I’ve seen him several times and like JB it doesn’t matter where you sit or stand it’s a dang good show. Once we won an upgrade in the pit. In 2012 those tickets we $250 each before fees & taxes. That’s was a dang good day! He spends most of the year on an island to escape the busy life. Years ago came out with a few coastal albums. The videos below are just a few of my favorite coastal songs. He & Jimmy were pretty close, I think. He did a tribute with Jack Brown at the country awards and seemed emotional. Seems like Alan Jackson also, not relevant, I know.

I’ve figured out the Margaritaville Cheeseburger in Paradise. I’ve had it the restaurants in Hawaii, Nashville, Myrtle Beach & Key West. Years ago I bought Grillo’s dill pickles and from day one adding them to my cheese burger it has the exact same taste. I love dill pickles but not the ones on grocery store shelves. My mama made them when I was a child and store bought won’t do until Grillo’s. They ad lots of dill, you have to pick it off the pickles it’s so much. One huge grape leaf and sliced garlic. It doesn’t matter about the bread on burger, still has that same taste as restaurant. Back when I ate bread we used tortilla instead of buns. Heat in the pan with cheese like you would a quesadilla. I eat burger bowls now and don’t miss the bread.
Very true! What’s crazy is most of the current younger generation (20s & below) have been brainwashed into believing a manual labor job is low class. People that work hard in plumbing, HVAC & other skilled labor jobs can actually make a lot of money especially if they are smart and become their own boss. Many people look at blue collar redneck type dress and the bottom of the barrel. I knew two old men that started Hardee’s that dressed like they just came out of the field, yet had more money than the average person could dream of. Sadly until we cut out government support things won’t change. My nephew is 25, has had one job lasted a week, fired because he was lazy. His wife doesn’t work & has a four year old. My brother supports them as well as the government. I’ve self respect, like most here, I could have asked for help from my parents and grandparents many times but we did with out many things. I’m praying America can become the nation I grew up in again.
At least if you work long enough to get caught up you are half way being a decent person. I barely speak to my nephew and he’s bipolar or something. His mama is also my family has history or various degrees of depression to mental disorders. Difference in me and them is I keep things in check and discuss with my husband to speak up if he sees I’m going downhill mentally. I believe abuse (physical and verbal) is the reason for depression and the more serious disorders. For some reason he just decided one myself, daughter and husband were stuck up, looked down on him and he couldn’t associate with us. Guess, working hard and making a living, having necessities and nice things is being stuck up. He’s never had a family unit, my mom practically raised him even though he lived with his dad & mom (separate custody). My brother won’t stand up to him. But, my brother has issues as well. At the moment he’s holding down a job and doing well, not staying out, etc. You know how people are and it’s hard when the person you grew up with in the same house is so different than yourself. Bottom line I don’t respect my nephew or his wife for multiple reasons. I speak to them and get along at family functions just for my dad and brother. It’s a long story and not working is just a fraction of it. My brother had a bad breakdown when he & wife split and was in psych hospital for at least a month. After that he was just different. I believe they did some treatment to alter his behavior and personality. Who knows could be growing up with an alcoholic and it took him getting older for me to see it. Several people in my dad’s side have committed suicide and some were lazy like my nephew and bummed off of family. It goes back at least a few generations. My grandmother’s dad shot himself in the same room she was in when she was nine. She was the strongest person I’ve ever known. Her sister’s son was a lot like my brother. It’s weird each sibling was either very strong or emotionally weak. The positive thing is me and my brother get along and I think respect each other. We talk more than ever. Our lives are very different. Each could be jealous of each other (different factors) but we aren’t. Again hard to explain because it’s just so much from a lifetime of stuff, family good & bad. The older I get the more I pray for people instead of getting in their face b-ing at theme. It doesn’t do anything but harm me to run my mouth to them because in the end most people don’t see there flaws. Only God can turn it around they have to seek him.
Thank you so much 😊 I truly appreciate your words of encouragement. It’s not always easy being strong and opinionated😆 I’ve finally learned most of us has a story of some dysfunctional family and it affects who we are. I think getting older helps tremendously with our outlook on life. I try so hard to not focus on what I’ve lost and focus on the present. Kinda hard when you had the absolute best loving, supportive grandparents & spoiling.
It helps to have a very loving and supportive husband that overlooks my cray cray ways. He also understands the huge loss I suffered after losing my last grandparents. They were like my parents and grandparents in one. My mind jumps from one subject to another, I’m sure people can see that in my post. I’m kinda like the characters in some of Miranda Lambert’s songs, “act like a lady and hide your crazy” I’m getting better at hiding it because I don’t have the attention span to deal with idiots so I say less unless you live with me. Bottom line he, my daughter and granddaughter is a big reason I’m getting better with attitude and prayer.
By the way, I see your post as inspiration, you like so many here are very inspiring and positive people. Influencers good or bad can make a huge impact! So take your compliment and be proud. You are appreciated!
💗
Good morning to all you magnificent patriots across the world.

Wanted to ask a quick prayer from you guys. I have tapered myself off of my depression medicine. I have grown closer to Jesus and Yahweh and feel freed. Depression and anxiety are not an issue anymore for me and they have not been for a while. I know im about to go through some withdrawal symptoms and it is going to be hard. Toss a prayer my way as i deal with these symptoms the next couple of weeks.
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me' (Philippians 4:13)
Stay strong. Put on your armor every morning first thing. Quote scripture and stay in praise and worship. You will come out the other side because you are an OVERCOMER! 🙏🏻
Prayers for you, may you be blessed with wellness and warm feelings from above!

Well yea but there's a bunch of people really wanting it!
Since I have realised that I am at the bottom of the Dunning Kroger graph, and absolutely everything I have believed - even the most obvious sounding stuff - is completely fake, I am open for anything at this point.
As far as I am concerned, the best thing to do is to sit and watch the movie and enjoy the show.
KEK 🤣 this is a funny graph, never heard of it before https://cdn.slidemodel.com/wp-content/uploads/20652-01-dunning-kruger-effect-curve-for-powerpoint-16x9-1.jpg
I certainly wouldn't put you at the bottom of that! If you know that stuff is fake you actually know a whole lot more than most people, and faith in Christ would shoot you right to the top afaic
Frens, I've had what I think is a bad cold for a little over week now, though it seems like it's been a damn month. Mucus in sinuses & throat (started with mucus in throat with cough, then sinuses started after) and coughing. I always take my vitamins and supplements every day even when not sick.
Quercetin, zinc, vit D3, K2, C, B6, B12, Magnesium glycinate, potassium citrate, TMG Betaine... since being sick I have also taken ivermectin for a few days, and when I didn't see any results, I started taking Hydroxychloroquine. Also been taking Echinacea & NAC. Drinking hot tea with different herbs. I've even taken some antibiotics & steroids (that I got from online pharmacy where I got ivermectin & hcq) for a few days, then stopped because I didn't think it was helping much. Should I go back to taking them?
What else can I try? Why won't this crap go away? Maybe I'm just being impatient, lol. My daughter said I probably have the flu, said everyone at her work was getting sick, and now she's starting with sinus infection, and hubby is got a cough. Ugh 😒
MMS oral and/or nose drops. Last time I had a sinus issue the pain was gone after 1 or 2 3-drop doses.

Thank you!
Hope you get well! Some colds take a lot of work. 1a) Nucleotides clear sinuses a little bit at a time, Quantum nutrition brand in Texas (founded by Bob Marshall who passed about 10 years back at age 75, he jogged a mile a day until it was his time, his wife Continues the nutrition lab and shop). 1b) Bob Marshall also taught then when there’s sinus mucus that intestines will have some and need a little clearing too. Their quantum “noni” capsules might help, you can ask how many to use for your weight, but I think for any weight 2 to 5 capsules should be fine every few hors. (There is not too much potassium in the caps compared to the juice form. Noni caps can boost the mood, so maybe not use right before bed.)
Benfotiamine fat soluble B1. A retired MD called up a local nutritionist near me and said whenever somebody is fighting off a cold and such person drinks coffee or gets caffeine from chocolate or tea… Benfotiamine is important for healing anything. I like “Mega Benfotiamine” by Life Extension, there are other good brands too.
If you can do it, 1 garlic clove per day, chop 1 up into tiny pieces, let them sit for 10 minutes so that allicin forms then scoop them up and “down it.”. It can be hot, but this is how to get the immune boosting allicin to work.
500 mg a few times a day of liposomal Vitamin C, I like Mary Ruth’s liposomal from Canada, and other liquid liposomal brands. ( I don’t think the ones in capsules are true liposomal).
Probiotic Power P2 allergy, asthma & sinus spray.
Of these, I would do the Nucleotides 2 capsules every few hours https://qnlabs.com/nucleotide-complex.html, Mary Ruth’s liposomal vit. C., and chop fresh garlic cloves and let sit 10 min. before eating it or mixing it with honey and a yogurt kefir drink.
Thank you!
Last February my sil got full blown flu, grandbaby got stuffy runny nose, daughter got soar throat, I got what turned into sinus infection. Strangely we all got sick with in the same 7-10 days. I did like you, my norm when sick, supplants, herbal supplements & tinctures and herbal tea, ginger vinegar and lemon, elderberry syrup if I have it. I don’t have ivermectin or Hydroxychloroquine, I know I need it. Can’t take NAC, makes me itch. I can normally knock crud out with this protocol. After three weeks I went to the urgent care clinic and they gave me antibiotics and steroids. I really thought it wasn’t helping and would have to go back then miraculously at the end of taking everything I was back to normal. Hubby never got sick, rest of family didn’t require antibiotics. I believe most of the time it’s about ten days for antibiotics, maybe it’s different depending on the type.
Sounds like a sinus infection and you might need full course of antibiotics. Nasal rinse or saline spray might help. Oregano oil capsules are really good for infection. Don’t get the tincture it’s very strong and burns. If you are rural it’s going to be hard to find. I order it and keep in available for emergencies.
. Crush a garlic clove and put it in shot glass amount of fresh lemon or lime juice for ten minutes, seems like you can add honey. I don’t remember details, garlic and citrus juice work better together if fresh. Garlic is great for infection. I’ve had it work and other times it didn’t, depending on how bad infection is. Heck once I swallowed whole garlic cloves (sliced) when I had a terrible ear infection. Edit: just saw someone explained this much better and the reason behind it.
. Try turmeric or ginger. Turmeric is a detox, or any detox herb. Dandelion is good. Licorice also is a detox. When I’m sick I boil ginger few minutes then add that to hot water with lemon slices and honey. I can drink with out honey, love ginger.
. Rose hips have a lot of vitamin c. Rose hip tea alone is good if like berry taste. Together with nettle and hibiscus is a great tea blend. It’s almost like the 70s red kool aid.
Sterimar Hygiene Nasal Spray is the best saline spray I’ve found. It’s from France, most other brands less salt. Cheapest I’ve found is Amazon. Just checked of course it’s gone up in price!
Honestly sounds like you have done as much as you can do. Sometimes we just need an antibiotic. Also hot chicken soup really does help when you are sick. It’s worth making it homemade. Do rice or egg noodles, I prefer rice it’s what I grew up on, like both though.
Praying you get better soon.
Laibach is a Slovenian (like Melania) pop band who always enjoyed being controversial, from playing Wagnerian hymns under the then communist dictatorship wearing what looked like Nazi uniforms, to being the first occidental band to play in North Korea.
They just recorded a live version of « I wanna know what love is ». I think you will love how it ends.🤩❤️
…and here is the Rock of Ages - Tom Cruise/Malin Ackermann’s version. I love that movie.🤗💐
I am very sorry about that, my Dear. Thank you for sharing.🙏🏻💐
I’m sorry your family has suffered this tragedy.
We don’t have the knowledge to understand why some die so young. Guess God keeps some things unknown for our protection. Sounds like a wise woman, that’s a good positive way to look at it.
So sorry for your loss Mary. That is heartbreaking. ❤️
Maybe so, but it still hurts .
I love it also, kinda cheesy but a fun movie.
Drip Drip Drip - Drip effect A theory in media effects that mass media gradually change individual attitudes or behaviors, or social changesto
Trump said on the news while he was talking about the slow drip of water because of the Green New Deal - water being rationed: the slow drip, drip, drip....
Could he be telling the media to slowly start changing to his side?
He also said that that would mean very little water going through the washer.
Could he mean that very little information be filtered now?
Hmmm. Interesting.
Over 400 military aircraft are active in the air right now. Seems extra busy. I even saw a Chinook fly by yesterday here in New England.
Usually it's closer to 300.
Whales are washing up dead in several states along the east coast, vibrations from windmills. VA has had a lot in recent years. I’m not sure about what states up north it’s happening. I think he’s against windmills, I like that he says negative stuff about the climate change agenda. They all need to go.
At the time this was posted he was talking about windmills and how they kill a lot of whales.
NEW FIRE JUST POPPED UP IN HOLLYWOOD HILLS: Are they destroying evidence? is this a 2fer? disaster money and evidence destruction?
I don’t think I’m very happy with all this empire building. Take over Canada and Greenland, maybe Mexico? It seems wrong to me. Then declaring the new Gulf name? It’s got to be a diversion to show who our friends really are, or it’s just bluster.
If the USA takes over Canada, we put the Dems back in power. Their most populous provinces are their farthest left group. I can see Alberta, maybe.
Greenland? Let’s not make it another PR. Let’s bring them in to keep China out. Mexico? No.
Panama should come back to us. We built it, and China is abusing it. Yeah, take it back.
What we really need to do is take back all natural resources from foreign countries. Take back the mines, the farmlands, etc. massive tariffs on American companies that move labor out of country. And ban all businesses that use child labor.
Jail Gates for crimes against humanity. Jail Soros and his son for the same.
Each of these geopolitical entities have been artificially controlled to leverage US in some way or another. All this talk is about freeing those controls.
I have never seen any documentation to support that. I don’t want Ontario or Quebec or BC. Too many leftists. Besides, then I would need to speak three languages to keep up! LOL. Mexico would be too expensive to clean up. Although, I would not have an issue with bombing Cartel leaders into oblivion.

Hi frens checking in, miss everyone and appreciate you. I hope everyone is staying warm during the cold front and storms on the east coast. Summer can’t get here fast enough! I don’t know much about the fires in CA, saw a post on a surfing account on instagram, sounds pretty bad. Including everyone in my prayers. Seems like too many Americans have been through natural or manmade disasters lately.
We are preparing for either snow, ice or both. I’m in the iffy zone so anything’s possible. Hubby has been great getting to grocery store for the necessities: pork rinds, water & coffee creamer. Just got six dozen eggs from my local chicken contact, he accidentally bought too much milk over the Christmas break & I always have butter. Haven’t bought bread in over a year so they can fight over my loaf. I’m keeping myself inside! I’m a klutz in good weather, don’t need to risk anything. Hubby is on our level of anti gov trust etc but he’s been extra diligently with prepping in case of ice storms. I think 89 (not exactly sure of the year) was the worse we have seen, newlyweds and not prepared, thankfully we lived beside family. He’s bought this little gas heater and extra propane tanks just in case. We can close off the living area if needed. It runs on a little propane tank that fits inside. He’s got a long tank hose that can go out the window with the larger tanks on the porch. We have a genny wired to the house, but if it’s icy that’s too far in the backyard. Thankfully he’s in a local radio club (cb, gmrs & ham) and if there’s an emergency they have a network. Hopefully with all that prep we will just get rain.
Southern people can’t drive in winter weather! The best meme I’ve seen lately: if you are praying for a blizzard go to Dairy Queen 😁
Just had a big bag of kitten food delivered for the little fella that showed up last month. My first outside cat ever, too old for litter box and scratching furniture! He’s safe and warm living under my house until he’s bigger. After that we will get him a little house. He’s got good protection from wildlife under the house
Please make sure the gas heaters are vented, carbon monoxide builds up with no symptom except feeling real sleepy, and by that time, you may decide to take a nap, DON"T. Make sure the vents do not ice up. Keep your faucets dripping and flush regularly. If the roads are icy, even Vermonters can't drive on that! 4 wheel drive or snow tires do not work on glare ice.Kitty litter, sand, ashes all help with an icy path. Dress in layers and wear a knitted hat, amazing how a toque keeps the cold from getting to you. Don't have long underwear? Panyhose under slacks will work. It's 2 degrees here at my house, but toasty indoors because of the wood stove in the basement. Keep the gas tank topped off in case you get real chilly you can go to the car and blast the heat to warm up a bit. Do shut off all rooms that don't need the heat but please be careful with the carbon monoxide.
Thanks so much! My husband goes to bed super early but when he’s up I’ll tell him. I did some research and these heaters are “sold” as indoor use, well yeah if you have a gigantic hole in your roof or wall. Fine print outside use or lots ventilation which defeats the purpose. One review said he had bad headache & dog got sick, before it was too late he figured out it was carbon monoxide poisoning. We are close enough to town and not on a back road so if power is out shouldn’t be several days. Plus I live beside a school, they get priority. I don’t think it’s going to bad here but only God knows that. My husband is pretty tough he would make it to the genny to get us power. Wish we had fireplace or wood stove. My great grandmother had a wood cook stove in my house, wish I had that. Chimney’s have long been covered up due to age. We can add the natural gas wall heater but haven’t yet. The gas line is there. We did remodel years ago and he hasn’t moved the gas line yet. Talking about putting in a wood stove but house is very small and not much room for it. I know all about bundling up, grew up in the 70s, we heated entire house with a wood stove. Burned up in one room and rest of house was freezing. By the time I was a teen I’d rather freeze in my room than be warm and with my grumpy drunk dad. Life lessons makes you stronger or weak. Thankfully he doesn’t drink anymore and I don’t mind being around him like back then. He’s still an s.ob. half the time, I ignore it, not worth me getting angry.
I’ve been to Vermont once in the summer, beautiful! I’d be running away very quickly in that cold weather. I’m a whimp can’t take it. If I was rich I’d be down south. Thankfully our weather changes like the wind, high 48 Monday. In one week during February we had 80 degrees, tornadoes & thunderstorms, freezing cold below twenty degrees. That’s the only time I’ve ever gotten home before a Nascar race was over. We didn’t stay ten laps in. I’m a wuss with cold weather. Give me 95 any day. NC weather is wacky, kinda like a parts of Texas. Stay warm & thanks again.
I almost killed myself back when I was very young. I had a small apartment on Long Island in Long Beach, and we had a cold snap so I had this small kerosene heater, it was not up to code, and lit it in the living room. I was priding myself on my ability to be self reliant, the cats were getting sluggish and I noticed how all of a sudden I was drowsy, which never happened when I was 23, thank god an angel whispered in my ear, I remembered hearing about carbon monoxide just in time, and turned it off and opened my door to the outside! My woodstove is a monster and is in the basement, I have a half door on the basement steps and small vents my son put in on the floor in the rooms, it works well enough, and when it's in the single digits I have a plug in radiator for the bathroom and another northwest facing bedroom. I go out a few times a day with my dogs when it's this cold, they do their business, then I am inside again.
Well I’m glad you and the cats survived. We used a kerosene heater several years when we lived in a trailer. Probably poor insulation helped ventilation. 88 - 96 our electrical bill was over 500 a month during the winter. It was a good home, we were blessed and better off than many homeless or in a shack (several still exist in the south). I’m like Jimmy Buffett “thank God I don’t live in a trailer” it’s lyric in a couple of his songs.
The older I get I can’t tolerate cold, gift of arthritis from past family genetics. I’ve read several posts lately that winter is supposed be a time of rest and recovery. Makes sense if you live the old ways of outdoor work in the warmer months. Unless you live in the tropics then that blows the theory of the water.
I love the scent of a wood heater, such great memories and it smells like my grandfather. Also old trains run on coal has the same scent. Maybe we will eventually get a wood heater. IDK, at 57 we are trying to simplify life. Moving to warmer climate would be ideal! One can dream. Stay warm spring is closer every day.
I have been on a hiatus from GA.win, but wanted to drop in and provide something I learned today.
