Egg price increase yet again. I hope this fake bird fly epidemic ends soon. Paid $6.78 for 18 eggs (www.nerdwallet.com)

Egg Prices Are Rising Again. Here’s Why They’re So High - NerdWallet
Eggs prices are high because a two-year-long bird flu battle has devastated flocks of egg-laying hens.

Went to the store today, they were $8.99 here in Utah. They were $8.49 last week. Something about all eggs must be from "cage free" hens starting 1-1-25. Supply went down, selection went down, and the prices went up.

See my comment here, free range is a scam.

I Agree it's a scam, just another irritation, irrational govt control over our lives.

11 bucks for 2 dozen in Michigan where the 'cage free' law went to effect on January 1.

I get free eggs though so fuck the cunts in charge.

I'm so frustrated how they seem to be winning with attacking our food sources. I hope the white hat's can fix it his. How do people on a tight income survive? I'm blessed with a good income but holy crap I don't know how people are doing it.

Since covid I have only bought eggs from Trader Joe's. Not sure how their supply lines work, but they've only raised prices 50 cents/dozen a single time since the Biden show started. My local Vons has prices about what you paid, but TJ's is at 3.49 for a dozen large eggs, 3.99 for jumbo. L.A. area. Good luck!

I know it takes 16 weeks before they start laying, but I’m going back to keeping my own laying hens. Unfortunately, time and circumstances led me to stop having chickens, thankfully I have time again.

As for the big commercial growers? I have a sneaking suspicion the bird flu would practically vanish if their subsidy for murdering millions of laying hens was eliminated.

Right now they are literally double dipping at our expense. Our Government pays them with our tax dollars to kill millions of hens. Then, they jack up prices because egg supplies are tight. They are essentially incentivized to claim their birds have the flu.

It pisses me off that all they would have to do it put some Chlorine Dioxide into the chickens water on a daily bases, and none of them would be affected by this so called Bird Flu.

Bird flu is only a pretext for directly culling the chickens, and indirectly culling the chicken ranchers (farmers?) and the population in general.

And I suspect that any measures that culled the chicken population from farms would also be applied to individuals that keep backyard chickens.

IOW - The health departments would require the testing, killing, or inoculations of all of our chickens.

Here in Commiefornia, organic, actual free-range eggs with deep orange yolks is over 10 bucks per dzn...at the WalMart Neighborhood Market. Probably more at the higher-end grocery stores.

eggs in Southeast Alaska are almost $12 dollars a dozen. Thank God my chickens finally started laying. Saw this coming, spent alot of money and time getting them set up but totally worth it.

Eggs are the perfect food. Packed with nutrients and protein. It’s a shame they are making it harder to feed our families.

Did you know you can freeze eggs raw and they taste just the same? I bought 8 oz canning jars and cracked 3 eggs in each one and froze some in case they get in short supply.

$10-$12 per dozen at Walmart in California - when there are any on the shelves. It’s ridiculous!

Thankfully in poorer and mid income suburbs, every 20th house keeps chickens now. Most begin to realize "oh no. What am i gonna do with all these eggs." Thats where i come in : p

Week before last I went to Safeway and there were none. Zero, zip. I needed them, so the next night, I stopped at a market that is a little higher end, but easier after work. $14 for a dozen. No organic, nothing, just...eggs.

I stopped in a couple of nights ago ago for something else and I walked by to check the price and it had dropped down and there was more selection, but it was still in $7-$9 range.

If you don’t want to raise chickens find a source. If you aren’t on facebook get a friend to go to a local group page. That’s how I found this a source for eggs. Also local farmers markets are a good source. So that’s why only the cheapest white eggs were in the grocery store today. For a year I’ve buying from a local lady four $ a dozen. They are so much better than grocery store eggs. Did you know USA is the only country that washes the eggs and refrigerates them before you can buy, in the store? In Europe if eggs are washed they have the lowest grade on the scale. Also, we have friends that have chicken houses. If the chickens have access to outside, one door open, it’s considered free range. The friend said they usually don’t come outside very far, if at all, because of the shadow from chicken house. They lie about everything!

We don't eat eggs and don't drink milk. Life is easier that way. I do use a tbsp of heavy cream in my coffee.

They were on sale in PA for $2.75.

In two weeks they are going to have free eggs one per customer and coupon in two weeks.
