South Korea's Samsung Electronics and at least one other appliance maker are considering moving some operations from their plants in Mexico to their U.S. factories.
The review is in response to President Donald Trump's consideration of imposing 25% duties on imports from Canada and Mexico on Feb. 1, a South Korean newspaper reported on Tuesday.
Samsung is looking at moving dryer production currently happening at its Querétaro plant to a plant in South Carolina, according to the Korea Economic Daily. The paper reports that the South Carolina plant's main product is washing machines.
The U.S. facility in Newberry County, South Carolina, was established in 2017, Samsung's website states. It was Samsung Electronics Home Appliances America's (SEHA) first U.S.-based home appliance manufacturing facility.
Do you think they will take out all the electronic bells and whistles and just make a machine that just dries clothes and lasts 24 years like I used to have? My last 2 units made it 5 and 3 years - and cost much more.
I know, expensive but wife and I went with simple Speedqueens. Comercial grade washer and dryer. No looking back.
Good to know - thx.
Yeah, they make good stuff
They are still not equal to earlier models. Both of our Speed Queen machines are still going since 1989.
Yeah, that’s the reason I haven’t gotten rid of my whirlpool washer/ dryer that was made in 1990…no matter how much my wife complains. 😂
Love my Samsung phone but they literally make the worst appliances. LG has terrible interface but man I've heard zero good stories about Samsung fridges or washers/dryers.
Exactly. Buy cheap, it dries the clothes in half the time. No dampness. Longevity is no longer a factor when choosing appliances.
I MUCH PREFER the old washing machines. I have OCD in certain aspects of laundry, and the old machine, you could do what you wanted in a lot of regards. Soak overnight if you wanted. 😁
Hell no, that ain't gonna happen.
I wish tho
They took our jobs....They took our Jobs! to We got Jobs! We got Jobs up the yin yang! We got Jobs!
Watch Detroit over the next 5 years.
Bringing back things our politicians have sold to the highest bidders.
Gotta make sure Americans who want the jobs get the jobs and not illegals.
The big stick always changes minds faster than the graham cracker.
Amazing how that happens, lol
And this is how I learned Samsung makes dryers.
They make my current phone. Didn't want to get a new one, but my phone randomly bricked in December after lasting far longer than I thought it would, and I hate Apple, so I didn't have much choice.
There's like 30 phone manufacturers
Yet only 3 carriers.
No more wet work.
It's dry from here on out...
MIL has a fridge from early 1960 and it still runs like a champ! that is the "greenest" damn fridge on the market... make it once and not have to remake for 60+ years. it may use slighly more electricity than the modern ones, but saves amounts of energy and pollution by not have to be re-made every 7 years like modern crap! and it is avocado green, too!
Why do you hate harvest gold?😬 SIL gave us her old fridge in 1996 and I have it still in my SE MI garage. Needs occasional defrosting but outside that doesn’t take long.
Hahaha, take NAFTA, and shove it. Kek, kekkity kek.
Samsung products are absolute junk. Planned obsolescence. Avoid.
Looks like Tariffs work.
Great. Now make us dryers that last 20 years again! Furnace, water heater, fridge, etc
Who's excited to work at the American Dryer Factory? They're hiring!
Put heavy import tariffs on Harbor Freight too!
And i thought i could only get sooo hard from all the winning
