Look at the story of Tom Petty and why he wrote the song, “I won't back down.” That whole story makes me wonder if he refused.
The story is an arsonist lite his house on fire while he and his family were inside. They escaped. Then he wrote the song and almost didn’t publish it because it was so personal. But he said he was glad he did, because people would come up to him and tell how much that song meant to them. Great song.
Funny you should mention this area. I just finished watching a documentary we got from our public library called Echo Canyon which features all the bands from the mid to late 60’s that came out of there. They had Jacob Dylan singing all the old songs of the Byrds, Mama and papas and Buffalo Springfield. They even spoke and showed a diagram of who lived in the canyon at the time.
Yes. They showed the area in the documentary called Laurel Canyon where many of them lived near the Hollywood sign. But the documentary itself was called “Echo Canyon”.
I attended a Richie Haven concert in Orlando back in the 80's (No info exists regarding it) and there was a bank called Better Love and Understanding, they had 3 singers including a lady who sang a song "Lust comes creeping in the Back Door", which was a great tune, and several other songs the group sang were also good. The concert was at a 1,200 seat venue. I tried to find info regarding the band or even that concert to no avail.
Today I listened to 20 bands who were from the 70's and just kind of faded away. They probably didn't sign at the crossroads... Sweet, Rare Earth, Nazareth, Baby, and 16 others all had a hit or two then kinda poof.
He only needed that one hit. It was so big worldwide, he made enough money to invest it wisely. He was smart enough to not sell his soul and cash out when he could.

Was he trying to tell us something in " Don't come around here no more ". Lots of symbolism.
Alice (of Wonderland) was a cake if memory serves
Petty's song was about musicians owning their music. After he won his case all artist now can own their product.
Bob Dylan's son, Jacob Dylan.
Hit song One Headlight
Then not much. Remember Daddy bad was part of the Laurel canyon group.
In an interview a few decades ago, Bob basically says he sold his soul.
I need to go find it...

This has been my theory as well.
Looking at Arsenio now... I bet he took a ton of dick in the ass, and orchestrated the same for up n comers.
Think 'Gayteway' to the next level in the industry of 'urban entertainment'. You had to go on his show at some point back then.
I wonder what Katt Williama would have to say about him.
There's apparently a lot of power in stealing someone's butthole before they get really famous. Imagine that. Famous anus. Wow
“Arse in yo ‘hall’?”
Expression your ass belongs to me

Suge knight held him over a balcony and made him sign the rights away to Suge
I enjoyed his home improvement show.
I am mindful of Tiny Tim and "Tiptoe Through the Tulips." Maybe there were other reasons.
Agree,at least recently
Some people only had one good song.
