I grew up in the 50’s. Most moms were home. If you were an unmarried female and got pregnant you were shunned and went off to go have your baby and give it up for adoption. So most women then tried to stay chaste. There were too many consequences otherwise
By the 60’s the women’s movement began and it coincided with the sexual revolution. This would never have occurred without the pill to prevent pregnancies. It came out in the 60’s.
Along with that women were told they needed to go to college get a career and work. Babies and marriage were secondary. Many boomers still married but divorce skyrocketed. It was ok to get one.
Moving forward it was ok to be single and have kids out of wedlock putting more women into poverty and on the doles. Some of those having the most children are single women in poverty. Creating more poverty
With so many women working it now takes two full salaries to have kids. So many postpone having them leaving them more likely to have fertility issues (especially women) as people marry later in life. Also they have less children or decide to be childless.
