"...and against the worldly governors, the princes of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness, which are in the high places." --Ephesians 6:12 --
1599 Geneva Bible
Like the Pharisees ,Pope ect. They all love the good life more than your life.
It was founded in 1871, long before "controlled opposition" became a thing. With LaPierre gone, it is operating with a clearer head. No controlled opposition mounts and wins legal cases that protect and extend gun owners' rights, as they have been doing.
As we have found, these organizations either start as con-ops or end up being co-opted. I think we should avoid them entirely and stick to advancing ideas in a decentralized, some would say anon? fashion (;
Staying anonymous and only spreading ideas leaves only the ideas themselves open to attack, and co-opting an idea is much harder, and much more transparent, than co-opting a brand, person, or organization.
we must fight! do not go quietly into the night! cabal wants us to believe it's hopeless, we're already too far into the beast system, but that is a psyop to make us give in!
Don't ignore or minimize it then. "Just use it for Motivation"
Embrace the suck , don't play "Staying anonymous" games because then you become part of the problem. They know, we know, they know we know and they look for little signs of fear like this to exploit.
The NRA is not as you think it is. I belong to it, to Gun Owners of America (GOA), and Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership (JPFO), in order of increasing stridency. It is able to muster the legal resources to protect 2nd Amendment rights across a broad spectrum of challenges---and, believe me, there IS a broad spectrum of challenges.
Advancing ideas in a "decentralized" way is tantamount to pissing into a lake one drop at a time. It is just a face-saving excuse for mouthing off without having the slightest effect on the nation. At the very least, there needs to be organized publication and membership communication. I've done this repeatedly in political organizations. It is easy to squelch a stray idea by the assault of "Everybody Knows" brainwashing tactics. This is why collective action is so important. One person cannot have the persistence to fend this off single-handedly. They will say, "What the fuck! I give up! I'm tired of this bullshit." As plenty of people on this page seem to have done. But I don't get the sense that they were actually in the fight.
They do. They are constantly in the debate, taking positions, and defending the 2nd Amendment in court cases. They have been putting pressure on the ATF for decades, and now that Trump is President some fruitful changes have taken place. Does no one wonder at the almost miraculous ease with which suppressors have entered the marketplace with a minimum of regulation? Both of Trump's sons are avid shooters.
If the gun owners sit on their ass, do nothing, say nothing, contribute nothing, and only carp...I suppose the NRA doesn't represent them. They are not making their wishes known. (Same thing with unions. My union had a significant conservative element in the membership, but an equally significant liberal dominance in the union council. Lots of conservative carping about the union council. When I would ask a carper if he would run for a vacant council seat to change the composition of the council, they would turn down the opportunity with disgust. You only get out what you put in.)
When they wouldn’t go to bat for Kyle Rittenhouse that told me everything I needed to know. I haven’t renewed my membership since then. They still keep sending me mail every few weeks to try to get me back.
No, it didn't tell you everything. The membership was upset about that. And LaPierre was ousted. Here is a 2024 survey that takes the temperature of the membership. https://www.ammunitiontogo.com/lodge/nra-member-survey/
The thing about activist groups. Regardless of their political affiliation. After they reach a certain age. They tend to loose the plot. Actually setting out to fix whatever prompted their formation becomes less and less important than the money they can take in.
Fix the problem? There’s no money. So there’s no incentive to fix the problem.
We must live on different planets. Your description bears no relationship to the NRA I have been a member of for decades. I guess you are information-free...
They are working hard on legal cases to protect and extend the rights of gun owners. Their big continuing campaign is to proliferate permitless "constitutional" carry in every state (steadily increasing in number over the recent years). Wayne LaPierre was outsted a year or so ago, after much grumbling by the membership, and new management is in place to straighten up the ship. I'm not sure if legal means are under way to recover any of LaPierre's excessive personal spending. Their training, educational, and historical activities continue. If I recall correctly, President Trump spoke at their annual meeting.
So, the question "Where the fuck are they?" is more a reflection on not having bothered to look, than about any absence of the NRA from the scene.
I have been a Benefactor member for 40 years. I read everything I can find, but feel we get more progress and wins from the GOA group. They just got the $200 NFA tax reduced and the right to get out of state CCW in Calif (if a member of GOA ony) in which I have a home but not residency. All my wins are coming from GOA, not NRA. So I ask again, Where the fuck is the NRA?
Was it the GOA alone, or in concert with the NRA and others? The NRA is currently bringing suit to challenge the constitutional basis of the NFA. In New Jersey, the NRA partnered with the New Jersey Firearms Owners Syndicate (NJFOS) and the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) to persuade municipalities to refund $150 of concealed-carry permit application fee. (So far, two towns have done this.) This is from the September issue of American Rifleman.

Many sold out for material gain. Men with solid principles are scarce, but they are the only ones that can make this world right again! A few good men have basically saved the world and most don't know it yet!
There was a spreadsheet back in 2016ish that showed where the NRA donated their money. Tens of thousands of dollars a month went to the DNC. So conservatives donate/pay to NRA, who donate to DNC who threaten to take our guns, and conservatives pay again, and the money goes to DNC, who threaten to take the guns....
What anger? I just asked a question. The NRA has consistently read out the Democratic Party as an enemy of the 2nd Amendment. This wouldn't be the first time a hoax has been published to turn people from support of an organization.
They are busy sending out mailers for you to join or renew your membership. My Husband quit sending them money years ago and they still sent him crap 1-2 times a week.
They disappeared when Wayne lapierre got caught up in massive corruption scandals (pocketing member funds for massive personal vacations, suits, personal items) that also showed he was back door dealing for gun control with the left. FPC and others have made NRA completely irrelevant. NRA is honestly in a death spiral.
you might want to make a post on this. It looks like you're either being completely misunderstood, or completely wrong. I see your points though.. I hesitate to agree but admit I don't know of any immediate alternatives
I've been a Life Member for maybe 40 years and I have been close to the 2nd Amendment all the while. I don't support unworthy organizations, and I don't stay silent when people are unrighteously talking trash about anyone. The NRA may not be the most perfect lobbying organization, but they are also engaged in programs to promote and perpetuate the firearm-owning traditions in America, to keep the issue alive in American hearts generation after generation. The other political groups have no time for this; they leave it to the NRA. There was a time when the NRA was the only shield. If it hadn't been there, we would have been like the UK: defanged.
Become a member and weigh in. The new Exec Director is all about transparent communication with the membership. The NRA-ILA has many irons in the fire. The Board of Directors has been almost entirely changed out (but there had always been a lot of rotation) and one can communicate with any of them to raise a concern. Lots of organizational and operational lessons being learned and changes being made in the wake of Wayne LaPierre. The 2nd Amendment is always front and center.
Best of luck. Gun Owners of America (GOA) and Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership (JPFO) are also good 2nd and 3rd rank lobbying groups (in order of increasing stridency). The Citizens Committee to Keep and Bear Arms (CCKBA) is also good, but I am not a member of it. (Maxxed out.) Memberships with them are mainly on the basis of voluntary contributions and you get their periodical newsletter and news on any lobbying activity. The Bondi DoJ intends to view 2A infringements as violations of civil rights.
I live in a state that just passed a law banning pistol magazines over 10 rounds' capacity. Like dictating how many cigarettes in a package. Pointless annoyance---except that is exactly the point. I'm hoping the NRA will get around to challenging that one before the Supreme Court. If there isn't already a judgement that needs to be applied by lawsuit.
NRA became "controlled opposition" long ago.
They don't represent the American gun owner any more than unions represent their workers.
I definitely agree with that. I quit giving money many years ago because it all seemed to go to Wayne Lapierre’s wardrobe…
NRA : Not Round Anywhere

Anytime you get a "National _______ Association" or any other such labels, it's probably a controlled opposition outfit, or soon will be.
It was founded in 1871, long before "controlled opposition" became a thing. With LaPierre gone, it is operating with a clearer head. No controlled opposition mounts and wins legal cases that protect and extend gun owners' rights, as they have been doing.

Perhaps we do need it. Bleh. I'm just so sick of all these Organizations™ who run around under righteous banners while covertly fucking us all over.
Ya gotta know yer operators.

They were infiltrated.
I dumped them many years ago.
Gun Freedom is not in their business plan
They only profit when there's 2A issues. They didn't want them fixed. They're getting fixed.
Haven't they been tied up with liberal AGs attacking them?
Yes. Like the State of New York trying to destroy them as a legal organization. It uses up a lot of attention when that is going on.
They are working hard on legal cases to protect and extend the rights of gun owners. Probably mad that the USAID gravy train got cut.
There was a spreadsheet back in 2016ish that showed where the NRA donated their money. Tens of thousands of dollars a month went to the DNC. Any proof of this sensational claim?
I do have it. Why so angry?
What anger? I just asked a question. The NRA has consistently read out the Democratic Party as an enemy of the 2nd Amendment. This wouldn't be the first time a hoax has been published to turn people from support of an organization.
Did you know that gun sales are the highest when democrats are in office?
If you think the NRA is on our side you… may be mistaking.

Money laundering like many other organizations that collect money saying they support the cause.
Negotiating Rights Away
No, it was the first civil rights organization.

I just hope it can get back to the core mission
