The myth of ‘jobs Americans won’t do’
Few slogans in American politics have been repeated as often—or accepted as readily—as the claim that “immigrants do the jobs Americans won’t do.” It is invoked to justify immigration policy, defend wage structures, and ...
Illegals have frozen citizens out of entire industries! construction, landscaping, etc.
There needs to be BIG money spent on White Christian Families. If the Father is working, and there is a Mother at home raising Children, there will be generous incentives. We can't beat about the bush anymore. We need to get the birth rate up ASAP.
Dude, how do you legislate race-based subsidies? Sounds similar to reparations...
It is to counter the very real Agenda to destroy the White Christian Nations. It's not reparations if we are using our own Taxed money on ourselves. It is similar to Circling the Wagons. Now let's hear your thoughts.
Nah, I'm sick of that racist BS, that is the same excuses the left use. Just stop taking the money in the first place, and stop trying to right all the wrongs of the past based on skin color. Money is taken from the hard working and given to the lazy. Get rid of, or severely limit welfare, and stop taking so much from hard working Americans (which elimination of personal income tax, seems to be an actual possibility now), and birth rates will fix themselves.
Throw in some bans for the nasty chemicals they put in our food to address the fertility/health side of this for good measure.
I disagree, And until I know exactly who I'm engaging with, I'll assume your here to deflect further discussion on a VITAL topic.
Funny how these chemicals don't hinder the fertility of non-whites. Stop deflecting from the real problem being the age when women start trying to have babies, fertility falls off fast after 30. Every big family I know of, including white families, they had their first kid by 22.
My wife had 4 kids between 35 and 43 yo.
That's not very big
"I'm an exception, therefore all general observations are invalid!"
Will be totally unnecessary once the illegals are gone, usury is redefined properly and outlawed, and money is sound. Taxes will tank, and every job you can imagine will be worth doing and profitable. It’s hard for us to imagine a world where one man’s entry level or new small business income is enough for an entire household without requiring women to work but we literally used to have that. I believe that’s where we’ll be again soon enough.
It's not that simple Fren. The issue is wide and deep in the need of fixing. You have to make having children and family life, interesting and a life path worth aiming towards.
I agree. I disagree that tax incentives are the answer to that.
There is a better way to do that instead of using race/group based politics. The government "should" be used for the betterment of society, if at all. The way to avoid race based politics is to use attribute based politics. Find behaviors or actions that you want to incentivize and find the ones you want to disincentivize, apply the solutions accordingly.
Want more kids from people that don't suck, give tax credits and/or incentives to families who have children. Poor people and people that work for cash can't take advantage of that program because it requires and income to offset.
That sort of policy is how you apply the help equally and promote better behavior at the same time.
White Christians have been targeted. There is no denying this fact. We are now 10% of the Global population. Down from 30% 125 years ago. We have been pulled away from the Church and our families and communities have been torn apart with deception via the TV and Media. We need to be open about the reality. Not hiding behind words. This is not only about promoting "Better Behaviour". It is about repairing the damage from the past.
I’m not interested in reparations. That’s welfare and welfare cripples everyone who gets it. Lower or eliminate income taxes, utilize tariffs wisely, kick out the illegals, drill baby drill, and everything will get real great real fast.
You're calling it Reparations..Not me. My remedy involves a whole new financial system..
Actually it's the employers who have been saving money hand over fist by getting away with paying those illegals less than what an American citizen would would/should expect for said jobs.
And that certainly applies to a helluva lot of farm owners out there....
Finally, someone gets it. Illegal immigrants have very little capital and political power. We aren't in this situation because they're stealing our jobs. They're being exploited, and it is the employers who are to blame. I'm so tired of people blaming all our issues on immigrants while ignoring the small percentage of people sucking up massive amounts of wealth.
The employers are simply responding to incentives on behalf of their shareholders. The government is to blame for creating the incentive by letting the illegals in and not utilizing tariffs properly.
The incentives that they themselves lobbied for.
I don’t care. We can solve the problem in two ways, and Trump is doing both. Chill out.
If they would enact laws with HUGE fines for any business that hires illegals, and enforce those laws, I think that problem would disappear.
CORRECT 💯 & Well said AL! 👏
Who did the jobs before we had our country overrun with immigrants??... oh yeah... US
The issue isn't that Americans won't do those jobs. It's that Americans won't do those jobs for what an illegal immigrant will do them for. There's a reason why American business owners hire illegals over American citizens and it has far less to do with ideology, patriotism or politics as it does their wallets. It's greed. Plain ol' greed.
It’s not just greed though. If your competitors are doing it and you want to stay competitively priced so you can stay in business you have to do it too. We must make it too costly to do or make illegals so rare they can’t do it enough for it to matter.
Yes, that is just greed. That many business owners are doing the same thing doesn't negate that the thing they're doing is because of their greed.
As long as the jobs are there, illegals will come. We can make it difficult as he'll but they will still come. If we want to really stop it, we have to deal with the people who are the reason why they come here.
Stop turning a blind eye to the root cause of the matter, demand accountability and punishments other than just paying fines (if they're punished at all).
If would be a hell of a lot more effective and efficient to stop business owners from hiring illegals than it is to go after individual illegals. The marh of it alone shows that true. Deal with one business owner who employs multiple illegals is easier/cheaper/faster than going after all the illegals working for that employer.
If it pure them out of business for not doing it, it’s not JUST greed. Regardless, the problem is people do what they need to succeed. If the system allows for it, to not do it either puts you out of business or puts you out of a job in favor of someone who will. Thus, we make the penalty strong for everyone for doing it and we strictly enforce immigration laws and the problem goes away.
Honestly though, Americans should be willing to do these jobs anyway. If we, as a nation, are willing to fold because some guy comes in and offers to do it for a few dollars cheaper, then we don't deserve our country. Sometimes fighting means willing to work your butt off in a difficult job for low pay because that is how our country was built. Back in my great grandfathers day, a lot of people worked, and even more VOLUNTEERED for difficult jobs, simply because they knew it would make their communities better. That's how the Amish do it. When you raise a barn, you get 100 men out there. They aren't paying them. Everyone is pitching in.
Americans won’t work for the unreasonably low pay the employer is offering.
The employer often feels pressure to hire illegals in order to remain competitive with competitors who do it too. They’re all incentivized to use then if they’re there. Trump is trying to ensure that they aren’t there anymore.
They will if they have to.
Some of this is truth, sad to say. Regarding contractor jobs, yes, many young men will qualify and be glad to get a start in the trades, carpentry and building. So many have gone soft though. Our local large organic farm did not hire migrants at all, and the owner of the farm and I were talking, and sharing that people today who are under 30 just do not commit themselves to a physical job for the entire day or the entire season. They would rather work at Home Depot or retail. I am talking about a 100 acre farm. They offered housing, free meals, and pay of 20 dollars an hour! No takers, just people who would show up for at most 4 weeks or so. Landscaping is done by local contractors around here, who switch over to snow plowing. It seems the farms can do some kind of LEGAL hiring, I see no other way. Agribusiness can afford robots. The work hard and save America seems to have vanished because of having immigrants do all the hard work, and I dont know how we can get it back. It is considered antiquated to so many.
There's a way to get it back
Curb all government programs that allow the laziness to fester.
Kick all illegals to the curb.
Close down businesses that hire illegals.
Do away with bullshit diplomas that cost 20 years salary.
Give trade schools equal footing with high schools. 50/50 split week
Thus, enforcing fair pay for work. If you can pay your rent or mortgage by being a janitor, you will do the work.
Additionally If you have the trade skills when you're still young, to say, be an apprentice electrician, you'll do the work.
It's kind of amusing to see people go on and on, being jealous of people that are basically being exploited. I'm trying to figure out what sorts of jobs the illegal immigrants in your communities do that you think Americans are just soooo jealous over.
Actual employed positions, as are held by illegal immigrants. Which are usually either dangerous, exhausting, exploitative, demeaning and paid peanuts.
Seriously. You can't just say "construction worker" or "carpenter" like all carpenter jobs are the same.
Who the actual fuck is looking at migrant farm families working in the summer in Texas fields, with zero benefits or perks or protections for like $8-10/hr and think to themselves "Those lucky bastards! If it wasn't for them, my life would be so much better!!"
Seriously, people. You're angry at the wrong people, for the most part. You're targeting the weakest people in the chain rather than point fingers at business owners who CHOOSE to hire illegal immigrants over American citizens because it means more profit for them.
It has nothing to do with being jealous of a particular job. It has to do with whether it makes sense to even consider a job when illegals are making the pay rate so low.
Dude, illegals aren't making the pay rate so low.
The business owners/people who employ them are.
Illegals aren't the ones deciding the pay rates.
Did I say THEY were? It doesn’t matter WHO is, if they are HERE, and we don’t incentivize companies with carrots AND sticks to hire Americans the problem persists. Reduce supply of illegals and/or punish companies for hiring them severely and the problem goes away.
I've shoveled literal shit before, which I got for free from a neighbor, to use on my tomatoes. You think I wouldn't pick berries if it paid a living wage?
Here's the problem: boomers and others with the "oh mcdonalds is a starter job for high school students"-- No! if you work 40 hours a week, you should be able to buy the most basic house and be able to buy healthy food and afford health care and a car. Period. That's the standard. That's the dream.
If the least of us--say for example an actual mentally retarded person--cannot support themselves on ANY 40 hour a week job, then the american dream we were promised is a lie.
Well, I know I'm going to get a lot of shit for it, but...this is exactly what liberals were fighting for with living wages back during the 2016 presidential campaign. It was one of HRC's platforms, and conservatives went absolutely apeshit over it, saying exactly what you said Boomers say, that working at McDonalds is for high-school kids and that paying people $15/hr to make burgers was going to cause society to collapse.
I agree 100% with you. Just thinking about how things have developed in regards to our stances on living wages and health care, since 2016. I'm not sure why things have gone this way. Probably so many people losing their job supplied healthcare during covid, and then getting sick....and needing healthcare. I've seen a big change in viewpoints of for-profit healthcare amongst conservatives since then. And maybe Biden fucking up the economy so much and inflation hurting so many people so much made people realize the need for actual living wages.
But maybe I'm way off. I'd love to hear some theories on this from others.
I was born and raised in Cali. Used to love living there until they allowed the cartels and other foreign criminals into the state illegally. Lost friends to illegal alien crime and watched many others victimized by illegal alien criminals over the years. Finally left for good and happy I did. But around 2009 or so, I remember doing some research when I heard, yet again, something I had often heard growing up. That was the claim that we needed illegals here to do the jobs Americans wouldn't do. On the state's on website, I found out that half of the people working in our fields were American citizens. Another 25% were working legally with green cards. Only about 25% of the people working in ag were here illegally. It seemed like an easy fix. Just distribute more green cards to foreign workers. It was used as an excuse to continue to allow illegal aliens into our country! So, don't believe that line when you hear it. Americans are NOT afraid to work!
Great article, thanks for posting!
9 times out of ten the REASON average Americans aren’t doing those jobs is that they’ve been priced out by illegals. You can be happy doing almost any job if the demand is high and supply of workers is low and thus, the pay is meaningful. Don’t even get me started on what used to traditionally be great jobs for teenagers that illegals took over.
It’s actually a veiled racial epithet and practice that perpetuates indentured slavery. Much more insidious and despicable when you look at it from that perspective. Makes me angry every time they say it with their holier than thou attitude.
