Went to doctor. Had blood work done. Showed that I had high blood sugar. Doctor did an in-house A1C test and result was 14, which is off the charts.
I bought a tester where you prick finger and apply blood to test strip, and get a read out. My levels are alarming, and have me worried.
Results are: 256 | 241 | 221 | 261 | 384 | 264 | 394 (Damn it man seem like I'd be dead at these levels)
I did not dream that I might be diabetic so I know nothing about how to deal with this. I do understand that my levels are dangerously high, but I don't even know what that means.
Anyone have these kind of issue. What are you doing to deal with it.
P.S. I suspect this has been going on for a while and I just did not recognize symptoms, until I finally realized I was losing a lot of weight. I was 6'3 221 prior Dr. visit, now last visit I'm 194 lbs. Always been healthy.
Water only to drink (minimum 64oz to 72oz a day)....if you can tolerate vegetable fiber...salads and veg no creamy or bottled dressing fruits and melons....whole protein's eggs fish chicken Beef turkey nuts no processed meat products...grilled or roasted or oven baked...nothing fried...no breads or pasta (but learn about einkorn flour and bake your own bread and pasta if your needing a fix) and cut down on all potato's...no cookies candy ice creams crackers potato chips...and last but not least 8hrs of sleep and a minimum of 1hr of activity 4 days a week...walk treadmill bike swim the wild mambo with your squeeze...I won't take your popcorn away but 3-4 cups a week and food portions should be no larger then the palm of your hand in reference. 4 small meals instead of 3. Target 2200 calories a day of which should contain 50-60 grams protein. low fat low salt I had to do the same I'm 225 today but started at a number I'm not proud of...it works for me but it sucks somedays.
My A1C's were in the 15's when I fould out...I loose the thread from time to time and dropped a 11.51 last year and as of three days ago 7.15.
ewe kan dew it
Appreciate your input from your experiences, which is best kind of knowledge.
grilled or roasted or oven baked...nothing fried: Tears here on that. I am a southern boy and eat everything fried. I guess it farewell that though, it is what it is.
I do exercise daily, for about the last month and a half.
Can I drink whole milk or not. I usually drink Whey power in a glass of milk after workout. I could drink the whey i water I guess, but can I even drink the whey power or is that off limits.
I have to admit to consuming whole milk...about 12oz daily, truth is I shouldn't drink it at all and my use is a compromise, as I used to drink about 1/2 gallon or more a day and I have yet to totally kick my habit...truth 2% and 1% aren't much better as they lower fat however the sugar response is about the same.
Just moderate your intake and your good.
For me whey powder might be very useful however I can't get over how nasty it tastes to me but it's very okay to use in our situation.
Then there's this sh..stuff I just read:
Exercise is never recommended when you have ketones. Exercising when you have ketones can cause your blood sugar levels and ketones to go even higher.
So what the F are keyones? And I have to get another meter to measure this. More finger pricks arrrrg!
You could actually get tester if you feel effected or just want peace of mind. Urine tests strips are available to see if your at risk but use them only when well hydrated and never after exercise as your most likely to be dehydrated after doing so.
For many exercise is important as it does lower blood sugar and reduce weight however your BMI is way smaller then my own and this is where I would suggest involving your PCP if you test bad on a strip before even buying a tester at all.
I haven't weighed in the 190's since my freshman year in the 80's but because your weight is lower then my own and you maybe only have only 20lbs to go before your BMI is in a spot where you don't feel as good as you used too.
Test and see then talk to your PCP if you don't like what you see.
Thanks. I know much more now than I did, and think I will be able to correct this by following the Tampa chicks formula.
I just finish my 24 hour fast, check level and it was lowest yet @191. That is down from pre-fast average of 250.
good news.
If you are doing keto diet, your goal is ketosis. You do NOT need to buy a meter and strips. Hospitals will check if you have been really sick and not eating.
If you have insurance, your diabetic supplies are likely covered or have a cap on cost.
Much appreciated.
Hospitals will check if you have been really sick and not eating. Not been sick and I am eating like Jethro Bodine. That I think was part of my problem, eating excess of wrong type foods.
I’d switch to an almond or coconut milk. Dairy is inflammatory which is the driving force in insulin resistance. If you coat chicken breast with baking powder, you can pan fry using cooking spray. It won’t give you the deep crunchy coating but it will give a hint of crispy coating. If you like wings, you can add seasoning to baking powder in a gallon bag and add raw wings. Shake well. Bake on a rack on a baking sheet. 425*F for 40-50 minutes. They will be salty so don’t add that to the seasonings but they are wonderfully crispy.
I lost 50 lbs last year by eliminating dairy and all grains. Once I stopped feeling sorry for myself and embraced almond flour instead of flour, it got easier. Animal protein every meal. I’ve slipped off the wagon and need to climb back on and get with the program again. You’ve can do this.
Great advice with an extra measure of "The Waterboy" encouragement. Thanks.
You can do it!
All good advice, imo. My only quibble would be the protein, I think he should target the number of grams that would equate to his ideal lean body weight. Protein has 4 calories so 60 grams is only 240 calories out of the 2200 with fat and carbs being the rest. Fat isn't going to hurt him since he's losing weight but it isn't going to help him preserve muscle either whereas protein will. Just my .02. Consider Greek Yogurt as an additional source of protein for the gut biome help, in addition to what was recommended above of course. You can go full fat or lowfat as necessary.
Usually after a workout I drink a large glass of milk with a scoop of whey power. This is high in protein.
Is this okay to consume of off-limits.
I've not heard anything negative about Whey, milk turns into glucose pretty quickly. You may want to see if you can wean yourself off of the milk and use water instead. The protein after a workout is key so keep that up. Track your protein grams for a week or so and see where you are at.
Will do and thanks
https://www.droracle.ai/articles/364801/what-is-the-effect-of-n-acetylcysteine-nac-on-blood
NAC = N-Acetylcisteine = precursor to Glutathoine.
Thanks fren. I have some NAC and some Berberine that I had taken in the past. Started to take again last night.
Perfect answer. Good job fren. Came here to recommend NAC
N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) shows potential as an adjunctive therapy for Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) and Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD) by acting as a precursor to glutathione, thereby reducing oxidative stress and inflammation. Clinical trials indicate that NAC can significantly improve liver stiffness, reduce steatosis, and enhance metabolic parameters such as insulin sensitivity and lipid profiles, though it is not currently a first-line treatment recommended by guidelines like NICE or the MHRA.
Common research doses range from 600 mg to 1,200 mg twice daily, with some studies suggesting benefits from long-term administration (6–12 months) to reverse liver lipid accumulation and apoptosis. While animal studies confirm that NAC rescues liver steatosis via the endoplasmic reticulum stress pathway and improves mitochondrial function, human evidence remains mixed; for instance, some trials show improved oxidative and inflammatory markers without significant changes in liver enzymes or lipid profiles.
• Mechanism: Replenishes intracellular glutathione, inhibits pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-alpha, IL-6), and modulates hepatic stellate cells to prevent fibrosis. • Efficacy: A 2025 randomized controlled trial found NAC (1,200 mg twice daily) was the only significant antifibrotic agent among compared treatments, improving liver stiffness and quality of life. • Limitations: NAC is investigational for fatty liver in many jurisdictions, lacks official endorsement for this indication, and should not replace lifestyle modifications like weight loss and exercise. • Safety: Generally well-tolerated with mild gastrointestinal side effects (nausea, diarrhea); rare allergic reactions may occur, and it may interact with nitrates or antibiotics.
Glutathione stack
optionals enhance the stack glutathione / glutathione peroxidase output by providing more pathways
Thanks fren.
Search Amazon for Selenium (400mcg), I only see max 200mcg.
Is your 400mcg a single or two doses?
Thanks for great info.
I wonder if NAC and/or Berberine is fat, or water soluble. Can I take on empty stomach or need to take with food? I'll look it up.
"some trials show improved oxidative and inflammatory markers without significant changes in liver enzymes or lipid profiles."
From what I've been reading about DMSO, I think that it would also, "show improved oxidative and inflammatory markers without significant changes in liver enzymes or lipid profiles."
NAC is what is used for Tylenol overdoses. Tylenol harms the liver - and NAC turns that around. It is the gold standard (in IV form) in the ERs.
Cut the carbs asap. This is deadly. See a doctor. Talk to a holistic doctor. Seriously, remove all carbs asap. My BIL died at 36 from this. Please get education asap.
Thanks. Am following you advice.
You know I never even suspected I had this condition until I started losing weight. Heck this could have been going on for a long time.
I did go to doctor. Had CT-scans, and full blood work. Doctor said all others bodily functions were good.
I swear carbs are deadly when you have diabetes. Insulin is poison but necessary. The less you need, the better off you'll be. Ted talks has some good diabetes talks. Our family dealt with it a decade. He just wouldn't stop eating the wrong shit. He lost 70 pounds just before he was diagnosed. Take care of yourself!
Thanks for advice fren.
I'm a type 1.5, after having managed my situation as a type 2 for more than 15 years without medication. I tried everything, from an exclusively vegetarian diet, to a straight keto diet.
What worked the best for me, was to drop the carbs. Take nothing in but keto foods. If you are unfamiliar, search the net for how to eat this way. It can be tricky at first, but once you're fat adapted, you'll appreciate the energy levels, clarity, and low blood sugars. Keto has many benefits above and beyond blood sugar. It is extremely easy to do, and you can eat as much as you want of the foods that are allowed. When you go back to the doc, they are going to tell you to continue eating the same foods you are now, but less. The portion sizes they recommend are ridiculous. What I believe is that if that diet caused such stress on the pancreas, it is dangerous at any level. Eating less of the junk is not only unfulfilling, but still causing harm. Ketogenic eating is hands down the best thing that I have found to help with this kind of thing.
Depending on where you're at, that can keep you in balance for many many years. Potentially forever if you don't cheat and your body is strong. You don't know what is causing this for you yet. There are many things I have used to massively improve my health over the years. They are all easy and mostly based upon consumption:
There are a ton of things that can help. My biggest recommendations are to clean your body the best you can, and eat a ketogenic diet. The other thing that massively improved pancreatic function for me was MMS. It just really depends on what is causing this for you. If you truly want to heal, you're about to go down a rabbit hole.
Thanks man. I really appreciate your sharing your experienced knowledge with me.
All of this seems like an insurmountable journey just starting out.
Take nothing in but keto foods. Keto is an unknown word for me know. I will have to study up on it.
Finding a REAL healer/homeopathic doctor: My wife just told me that our neighbor lady see a good homeopathic doctor, this is something I will look into.
MMS: Search Jim Humble's protocol and book (can be found floating around on the net for free): I have been a strong advocate of MMS and DMSO for a few years. Do you take the protocol 1000 for full 21 days? This is a link I posted to this site two year ago.
Parasite Cleanse: I have taken Fenbendazole per Joe Tippen protocol for a while. I actually took the Berberine, Turmeric/Curcumin, Zinc, Berberine, Fenbendazole all at the same time for a while. I learned that this was a mistake, taking all these at once as the competed for the same thing which made them less affected. Since my weight loss seemed somewhat to overlap the taking of these things, I even questioned if this caused my problem. Talking with a friend who is chemical engineer, know a lot about this, he said it would not cause this issue.
Exercise: I always keep myself in great shape, until last two years when I started laying around most all the time.
For a little over a month now I have started exercising again. I use my kayak paddle in my pool, and power walk on off days.
Routine:
Row 200 times with full power intervals
Push paddle out from chest 200 times with periodic hard as I can go.
Kick legs with full power intervals 400 times
Turn full side to side with paddle at waste 20 times. This one is hard.
Walk around shallow end of pool 200 steps with burn our squats
A couple days a week I just walk a couple miles vigorously. Then when retiring, I have an full ammo can beside bed that I do some swats with, and curls.
get a total gym, an adjustable incline resistance trainer. they run about $400. do at least 30 minutes a day on it. you can do legs, arms, abdomen. they're pretty flexible. you can watch tv while on it. plus do walks during the day or other fun stuff. take 10 grams of creatine a day (5 morning 5 evening). that'll keep your muscle mass stable.
Most likely you have fatty liver as well. I have been struggling with Type 2 for years medicated.(metforman, GLP1, and not to long ago added Jardiance which is why I got serious about the situation. Going the wrong direction with more meds for the same problem. Every one is different but there are common threads. A good 24 hour fast should improve your numbers fairly quick. My A1c was close to 10 the highest it has been since I was diagnosed as pre-D 15 years ago. I did 2 fasts 3 days apart and my numbers fell in line. Cut carbs and sugars. Avg daily glucose is around 88 now without spikes above 125 after eating. Halved the medication because my glucose kept dropping below 70 in between meals and overnight. Now it is starting to drop again so back in for another evaluation on medication. I don’t know if I will ever be free of the meds but that’s my goal. Seems as the longer I keep it under control, the more the meds affect on me. I am expecting an A1C under 5 for the first time in 15 years. I would like to believe that lowering the visceral fat around my organs and lower internal inflammation is allowing my system to function more as it should. Time will tell, but my focus is changing from managing blood sugar to re-starting my natural metabolism which gives me hope. BTW ketones are important when you diabetic. My normal ketone levels stay around .5 to 1.5.
Thanks. I am happy that you seem to be doing well. All this stuff is overwhelming, just starting off on the path.
Most likely you have fatty liver as well: Seems like this would have shown up on the CT-Scans I had, or the full blood panel results, but maybe not.
Cut carbs and sugars: Doing now.
Fasting: About 1/3 of way into first 24 hour fast now. Looking to see what meter reads through this process.
Heck, when I realized I was losing weight, I started eating all the time. I craved food constantly, and not knowing my sugar was high, I at all kind of grains, pies, cakes. This probably contributed to my numbers going through the roof.
you should switch to hard core keto asap. you have a lot of lurking problems. also subscribe and watch drboz, she's very articulate. if you live in tampa, go visit her. here is a video from her channel.

Keto diets can be tricky for people with diabetes and has to be monitored very carefully - especially with glucose levels that high.
It can also lead to gout due to the way the kidneys clear keytones first, causing uric acid to reabsorb back into the blood. Uric Acid causes gout. Also be careful how much red meat and seafood you eat - they have high levels of purines, which also lead to gout. Gout sucks.
Good advice. You are right. Yes, gout really sucks.
The problem is that there is no one size fits all "fad" diet approach when dealing with certain chronic conditions. It all has to be customized to the individual. What works well for one person could end up being harmful to another. That is why anyone struggling with some of these chronic conditions needs to monitor their situation closely when engaging in any radical dietary changes.
I am not a fan of some of those more radical "fad" dietary changes for those with certain chronic conditions. Most of the time just some common sense changes over the long term are the best route to take - getting rid of bad seed oils, highly processed foods, lowering refined carbs, etc. Not only can those changes have the best chance of being better sustained, but they avoid the problems of dealing with the yo-yo effects like when coming off those more radical change diets. Common sense diets can have the best chance for more long term success and sustainability.
very true, DrBoz specifically treats diabetics and does a fantastic job. I have siblings with bad diabetes. blood tests and a CGM are crucial to maintaining control. as long as your pancreas isnt destroyed, you can achieve some degree of recovery- otherwise you're literally dealing with a case of organ failure (type 1 diabetes, zero insulin feedback).
In both types of diabetes, 1 and 2, the rates have dramatically risen. You are correct in that DM2 can be maintained or reversed if caught early enough. Once someone has to start taking insulin for DM2 it then becomes extremely difficult. DM1, you on on insulin for life.
DM1 is an autoimmune disease. Basically the body attacks the pancreas killing the beta cells that produce insulin. Most people develop it young, either as a child or young adult. That is why the classification used to called Juvenile Onset Diabetes. It can happen in adults, but the mechanism is the same. The pancreas stops making insulin.
DM2 used to be called Adult Onset Diabetes because that was the group that it primarily afflicted. The mechanism is different. With DM2 it is an inability of cells to take up glucose. The body still produces insulin but the cells are resistant to it. It's a lock and key mechanism. In DM2, the insulin key doesn't unlock the cell door well to remove the glucose from the blood. So it is a matter of increasing insulin levels or trying to make the cells more able to respond to the insulin. Too much insulin in the body is not good. It drives inflammation which leads to other problems along with the elevated glucose that creates its own problems usually associated with diabetes.
Most DM2 that we have seen in the last decades is different from the typical profile that existed back in the 50's and 60's. It used to be seen in older people, usually men, of normal weight. Not like today where weight is often a major factor and it can strike teenagers - usually sedentary and overweight. Now there is often what is called metabolic syndrome - a three legged stool with ever increasing BP, glucose, and blood triglycerides. It appears to be primarily diet related and from inactivity. Basically most DM2 these days is sadly self inflicted. Poor diets high in seed oils, refined carbs, and highly processed foods has been a killer for the American people. The recommended Food Pyramid has been making people sick for decades and was promoted by Big Ag. It's a load of bull.
Fren I owe you.
I listened to this video twice, second time I wrote down, in detail all the steps she laid out for proper keto diet. I also watched video about shopping for right groceries.
I was presently surprised to hear her say that a keto diet is 70% fat, that eating bacon and eggs was good, that having heavy whipping cream in coffee was good. I am not in Tampa but about an hour south of there. Might go see her.
Funny, my current provider that I saw Monday, even knowing my number were off the charts, said absolutely nothing about my need to cut out carbs, or that I might benefit from a period of fasting. Only direction they gave was, let's monitor you glucose levels and come back in four weeks.
I still have a couple hours on my 24 hour fast, but just took reading and numbers are going in right direction. Got a 202 number which is lowest I've read since I got the meter.
If I can get through all her steps of which the last step is a 72 hour fast once a week for 8 weeks, that might be hard, I feel like I can get my numbers down in good range, Lord Willing!
DrBoz specializes in healing people with diabetes through diet. when patients are motivated and follow her advice, they have very compelling testimonies and recovery. you might want to meet with her and have her get you a CGM. that way you can get good feedback on your progress. once you get into a good keto state you have to pretty much stay there for the rest of your life, but its pretty easy to do.
I may do that. I like her. Anyone wiling to rack up 12 felonies for pushing back against medical cabal is probably a good honest person.
On the CFM, my brother told me he has one of them. No complaints with its working but he said the module that you put on you arm, that sends signal to phone app only last for around two weeks. Then it has to be replaced at a cost of around $70. $140 per month was more than he wanted to spend when he could do same think, albeit it less often with the lancet strips.
Walking can daily can help.
And particularly after a meal I am learning.
Thanks for input mate.
There are supplements with many of the things you need all in one… Berberine, cinnamon, apple cider vinegar, +/- another thing or two. I’m sure I’ll draw some fire with this, but adding Metformin to the aforementioned would be great if your doc will prescribe it.
Thanks. I did see some videos indicating particularly that Berberine was the natural equivalent of Metformin. I would not take Metformin because of all the horror storied I have read about it. And hear that Apple Cider Vinegar should be drank before meals.
I have some Berberine that includes Ceylon Cinnamon that I just started taking.
Consider using the supplement berberine, along with diet and exercise. This article isn't exactly what you want but it will get you started. I use it to keep cholesterol under control instead of statins. Good luck. https://www.healthydirections.com/articles/blood-sugar/what-is-berberine-research-and-benefits
Thanks fren. I have some Berberine that I was talking along with Joe Tippen protocol as more of a prophylactic measure against cancer. (I don't have cancer, knock on wood) I actually took on capsule last night after discovering at Berberine was a natural form of Metformin.
Prolonged fasting - Dr. Jason Fung he is great and has free videos on youtube. Also carnivore diet (no diary) is the best overall if you have chronic issues. Check Dave Chaffe channel.
Will do and thanks for suggestions.
Understand, and thanks.
Weight loss may not be a negative thing: I was never a fat person. And when most of you weight loss is coming from muscle mass, it is a bit more concerning to me.
Sounds like you might need to find another doctor, one more interested in you health than phama profits.
Doctor indicated that high blood sugar can lead to muscle loss.
Search says:
Yes, high glucose levels can lead to muscle loss. Chronic high blood sugar can damage blood vessels and nerves, which may limit the nutrients and oxygen reaching the muscles, contributing to muscle weakness and reduced mass.
When at doctor, he did not mention any of those other things.
Look into vitamin B1 as a supplement. Find a doc that knows nutrition. Maybe a little zinc and lithium orotate extra low dose too. Dr. Berg benfotiamine for blood sugar video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmYrJ0s7QQU
Fren, the first thing I would do is adopt a ketogenic diet. You don't need particularly large amounts of insulin to eat a ketogenic diet. Double check your insulin level. The hope here is that an insulin test that can be used to double check you are making sufficient insulin. HOMA-IR is the test. If you just have sky high insulin resistance, intermittent fasting 13-15 hours per day on keto will bring your insulin resistance down to levels where your existing insulin production could potentially keep your blood glucose in check. Also double check your blood pressure. If you are running high, this is a sign of systemic nitric oxide impairment. Nitric oxide is the body's primary signaling molecule, and improving nitric oxide can definitely bring down insulin resistance. PM me if you want additional details! And, no, beet juice or Arginine / Citrulline supplements are not the way. I have a relative right now who was about to lose his leg to diabetic PAD, and he is now slowly recovering based on my suggestions.
If you can do it, keto diet will get your numbers down. All the best, fren.
