Piedmont Fire Chief Dave Brannigan told reporters at the press conference that the onlooker “probably saved a life.” He said that based on how quickly the fire went out, it doesn’t appear as though the vehicle’s electric battery caught fire in the crash. When his team arrived, Brannigan said, the flames were twice as high as the vehicle.
The rear wheel tire seems fine and not melted as might be expected with such light flames. I do not see any fire damage to the local flora. If the battery wasn’t the source of the fire, what was?
