Totally agree. He was a known paedophile to police but not to the community, he was able to change his name and had unfettered access to kids. For a man in his 70s who had been an habitual abuser her actions finally put an end to it. She did society a favour.
As a retired educator I will tell you exactly how to raise the reading and math percentiles. You go back to what worked - teaching the three Rs - Reading, (W)riting, and (A)rithmetic. You take away the calculators and teach them their times tables.and how to compute in their head. You teach them how to read a clock face, teach them phonetics and teach them to read and how to spell. And while you are doing that teach them how to write in cursive and take pride in beautiful handwriting.
We have dumbed down the teaching methods to such an extent that kids today can only tell the time by using a digital clock, cannot spell, cannot read - let alone cursive, can only print, and cannot add up single digits without using a calculator.
There is no mystery in fixing the mess we currently call education.
