The Little Flowers of St. Francis of Assisi (1908 Catholic Book)
The Fioretti, or "Little Flowers", is not a biography, btu a collection of episodes, or, as the title itself describes it, the fairest and choicest flowers of the seraphic life of S. Francis and his companions.
These stories remind me of a fully Western version of the Eastern writings of the episodes of the "Desert Fathers".

Excerpt:
CHAPTER XXIII How S. Francis delivered the brother that was in sin with the devil
As S. Francis was on a time at prayer in the House of Portiuncula, through divine revelation he saw the whole House surrounded and besieged by devils, as it were by a great army, but no one of them could win an entrance into the House; for the brothers were of so great sanctity, that the devils could find none in whom to enter. But as they so continued, it happened on a day that one of these brothers was offended with another, and thought in his heart how he might accuse him and take vengeance upon him; for the which cause, while his heart was devising this wicked thought, the devil, finding the door open, entered into the House and set himself upon the neck of that brother. But the heedful and pitying Shepherd, who was ever keeping watch over his flock, seeing that the wolf had entered to devour his little sheep, at once let call to him that brother, and bade him forthwith disclose the venom of hate he had conceived against his neighbour, through the which he had fallen into the hands of the enemy. Whereat he being affrighted at seeing that the holy Father knew the secret of his heart, discovered unto him all its venom and malice, and acknowledged his fault, and humbly begged for penance and mercy; and this done, whenas he was absolved from his sin and had received penance, immediately, before the face of S. Francis, the devil was away; and the brother thus set free from the hands of that cruel beast, through the loving-kindness of the good Shepherd, gave thanks to God; and going back, corrected and admonished, to the flock of the holy Shepherd, he lived there-after in great sanctity.
I'll post a fresh comment but it's a reposted sentiment:
I don't think the rightwing often understands the left's view on 'illionaires
The left will for example take someone who is hardworking and even if you make $100k a year without investments, you're not on that wage alone going to become a billionaire or trillionaire (maybe a millionaire)
So they infer you need to do something "unjust" or "immoral" to accumulate monies beyond that "honest work" that can't make you a billionaire+
These monies must then come from people "doing honest work" which they get through dishonest business practices (is what they argue)
I think there's some truth to the sentiment, or the rightwing doesn't seem to embrace traditional Christian views on wealth as much ("harder for rich man to enter heaven than camel to go through eye of a needle" ... the story of the rich man being condemned to hell for not helping the poor man Lazarus who was in need, etc.) - but obviously it's not a totally accurate view: you definitely can make use of businesses and technologies to create vast amounts of wealth individually
So there's something of a struggle of honest labor versus "dishonest" capital in this conversation, which is not a new conflict by any means
The other related issue is more of proportional wealth, but the average "honest worker" has had their wages stagnate for a while, while CEO pay is currently sitting at ~300x that of the average worker. The average CEO is obviously (or at least I think it's obvious) not working 300x "harder or smarter" than the average worker, whose wages are not at a "comfortable middle class level". So literally if the wealthiest weren't as "greedy" and would "buy off" poorer people more, they probably wouldn't complain as much about the growing sense of "economic inequality" of the richest versus the poorest in American society.
There are other objectionable grifts at play, like with the 2008 bank bailouts: some "businesses" profit out of loans made out of thin air and when their loans go bust the losses are socialized on to the public (aka the left might view this as more "stealing from the average hard worker"), so they "win" no matter what the outcome here, or at least don't "lose" like other normal people do.
I think one of the problems is that biology is extremely complex and we only know so much of how it works
so this is where people can come in and lie, if they can create some kind of cause-and-effect argument that seems to be right (but is ignoring something more of the complexity of the issue)
they seem to be arguing something like high cholesterol correlates with disease, ergo use the statin drug to get the cholesterol down - ignoring that maybe there is something else that could naturally get the cholesterol down or that there's something else causing the disease (while cholesterol might go up naturally in reaction to the disease?).
(I don't know enough on this specific issue, just that I've seen natural high cholesterol can be ok and statin drugs are not necessary.)
this is why I find anecdotes to be useful because we simply don't have 100% knowledge of how our bodies work but we can sometimes know "so-and-so ate these specific foods and did this specific exercise and lived to this ripe old age" for example and we could do likewise and hopefully live long and healthy as well.
St. Anthony the Wonder-Worker (Catholic Booklets)
Pope Leo XIII styled St. Anthony of Padua ''The saint of the whole world." Truly, he is the saint of all times and of all countries. His veneration is bounded neither by race nor creed. He possesses enthusiastic friends, devoted disciples and zealous clients among people of all nations. Few saints have wrought as many miracles during life and after death as has St. Anthony. On the day of his burial, which was a Tuesday, all the sick who approached his holy remains were cured of their ailments. Pope Gregory IX confirms this fact in the bull of canonization in which he styles St. Anthony "The great Wonder-Worker of the whole Church."
It is the will of God that we not only invoke the aid of St. Anthony, but that we likewise strive to conform our lives to his sublime example, particularly by our love for God, confidence in His mercy, simplicity of manners, purity of heart, charity toward the poor and apostolic zeal.

I thought I saw a theory circulating about age verification, something like that ai companies were pushing for age verification because with bots more popular now, it's hard to tell who is human or not (like for ad revenue of calculating real traffic numbers of users online and such)
Well, I doubt it, but I await confirmation of this theory (in two weeks?)
Trump has publicly said this was something like to prevent nukes from being developed and to liberate the Iranian people...
...others note this may be an attack on muslims at the behest of the "non-gentiles"...
...but in any event it seems the conflict has stopped (for now)
How about we also attack the leftist school system with:
Legalizing doing jobs without degrees
Legalize creating competing certifications and schools to their broken education system
Sounds Yuge / this is the way / etc.
So, piracy of sorts
But muh soft power tho
Milei has said he is the "most Zionist president in the world."
There may be some gains in Argentina but their "movement" sounds neutered/ kosher
(Milei for example has also been criticized for retaining their Central Bank)
idk i asked ai about this once nad it explained the strategy
Iran gains from short term closure not long term
Which is maybe why trump wants to wait it out but that also risks destabilization (fertilizer, gas)
Ultimately probably best to wrap it up immediately for everyone involved if we can get the Art of the Chief Dealmaker to finish the conflict up
This is a step in the drection against the problems of higher ed
But we have to deregulate education and industry. School should be higher quality, cheaper, and not necessarily required for a lot of jobs
I think it's normal to imagine being the other gender or animals or even to want that to some extent
I think the "Big Lie" here is that it's biologically possible to change genders, which isn't true based on available technology I don't think
current "transgenderism" (like with surgery) is just an "advanced form of cross-dressing" where things like brain and bone structures don't change
I think fundamentally acknowledging this distinction between "advanced cross-dressing" and "actual gender change" may be at the heart of convincing people to accept the gender they're born with, as the cross-dressing seems to create confusion for themselves and others which doesn't get resolved in society, and the "actual gender change" is not technologically possible
It will be a bit weird in the future if they ever can get to the extreme of swapping more essential things like "bones and brains" - a bit difficult to envision and would become a different conversation then I think
Fundamentally to some extent transgenderism is a rebellion against the "immutable" - the gender that God decided for us that we can't change (currently anyway)
Fascinating they're tinkering with these things
And explains why some things don't "seem like they used to" even though otherwise they have some likeness to the past
In a first, wind and solar generated more power than gas globally in April 2026
...doesn't sound like a big deal, I could see Catholics and orthodox who are abstaining from meat being accommodated as well in a similar way
I get that we are against Islam but not every detail is an issue tbh
As another comment mentioned, I don't think Sikhs usually act like muslims; this could be more of a one off thing (curious if anyone has more info on sikhs)
I guess reviews or independent third party testing would be what I'd be interested in thinking about to ensure the product has some quality to it?
"Superfluous Wealth" & The Spiritual Danger of Riches (Repost)
Previous post: https://scored.co/c/Christianity/p/19A0tQMqgb/on-superfluous-wealth--the-spiri/c
The basic idea seems to be that God gives wealth beyond one's needs ("superfluous wealth") to be used for the good of others
A man may possess great riches without sin, however this is spiritually dangerous and makes salvation more difficult because temptations are increased:
It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 19:24
Some mere holding of wealth beyond one's needs has been thought to be sinful, for example with the story of the "rich man and Lazarus" (Luke 16) where the rich man was condemned for not using his wealth to help the poor man Lazarus who was in need
Contrary to a spirit of usury (or lending at interest), Jesus even recommends as an ideal to lend without expecting any returns:
"But love ye your enemies: do good, and lend, hoping for nothing thereby" Luke 6:35
Hence following these kinds of principles, which seem contrary to a common understanding of the use of money today, would seem to have an effect of distributing wealth more evenly (the richest become poorer voluntarily, and enrich the poorest which makes them richer, thereby tending towards more of an equal economic status)
(In light of the above, it is noted that different people have different economic needs; for example the father of a large family may of course need much more materially than an unmarried individual who lives simply)
What do you think about people's attitudes towards money today and how these kinds of principles ought to be practically implemented more in the world or in the USA to make the country greater?
...kind of...
