Just an aside, the reason the firstborn were all killed was because it was tradition that the firstborn, the future head of the household, gets to sleep on the main level on a cot. And I do firmly believe it will only last a few generations. Whatever precautions they've taken to eradicate it, and measures to shore up future generations from it, I believe it will only arrive, and the day of reckoning and Armageddon will come soon after.
