Yeah, I can see your point. There are obviously a LOT of differences beyond just lights between the two sides of that line. I was only commenting on the image itself, which I'll admit is a brilliant reflection of something profound. Similar to the satellite imagery of Dominican Republic vs. Haiti.
DeBeers' decision to develop the Victor Mine in Northern Ontario was odd. The published data of the kimberlite's diamond size distribution suggested that it would not be economic, but they proceeded anyway. They went on to occasionally recover large gems that did not seem to fit the size distribution curve that all their pre-development testing produced. Were they using the mine to fence diamonds from elsewhere?
