Twitter isn't absolutely worthless as a product though as it brings inherent interest. What I mean is that you can download a web browser app on your phone and Twitter is a preloaded bookmark, along with Facebook and ESPN. That kind of infrastructure involvement is huge and it's already dispersed out to so many users and a common utility. Reach like that is a vehicle to profit from other products.

I can attest that admins do manually fix things constantly and especially on an always live, very active, 24/7 site, you just cannot announce scheduled maintenance all the time. Sometimes databases are pruned or repaired without notice and that's what it takes to keep things going.
