I love the reader view option. Sometimes you go to a website and it is just overloaded with ads. click on reader view and all you see is the article. Awesome.
Does not work all the time
It's built on Chromium but it is certainly not google free. It's nowhere near as bad as actual Chrome, but Firefox is better from a privacy perspective.
If you want an easy way to avoid Google related services just try Brave.
Made by the creator of JavaScript and one of the founders of the original Firefox before they sold out their soul
Brave has the positive stuff of Chromium which is speed and compatibility (something which Firefox lacks) while stripping away Google integrated services.
Nothing is perfect of course but its a start and an easy one to be honest. Then there is Ungoogled Chromium but Brave is the middle ground at least for starters.
Even when it comes to syncing your bookmarks etc you do not create an account but the passcode is ~16 words like its a bitcoin wallet or some shit.
Started using Brave maybe 6-8 months ago, and haven't looked back since. I also find it's built in ad-block to be amazing! It even has little notes on the new tab page that tell you how much bandwidth and time you've saved by blocking ads and trackers.
Then there's also the feature of opening a new tab in Private with TOR. Not quite as secure as the TOR bundle on it's own, or booting up tails or something, but beats normal private mode by using the TOR network.
Yes, but still maintained by google and known inside and out by google engineers and has custom code injection built into the everyday compilers we use.
Fine - yes i downloaded that one. Still pissed. And I still use safari mostly because of passwords stuff and despite apples shit they are still better than android and google.
Its fucking sad man.
Thx for brave suggestion - guess Ill drop Firefox for brave. They have privacy in their mission statement - so I guess that’s good enough for me.
It's built on Chromium which is open source, safe and good. What makes Chrome bad is this the proprietary stuff they put on top of chromium. Chromium itself is fine. Since it's open source no one can put anything bad into it without it getting noticed by someone else.
Except it is doesn't work on sites that have issues with Chrome. Online subscription photo editor, for example. Brave doesn't work right, so I have to use Firefox. I dont know of another option
It's built on top of the open-source chromium engine which Chrome the browser is also built on top of. It's all the other shit in the actual chrome browser that does the tracking and shit.
I know you were asking for a reco, so this is not a smart ass comment – I’m too busy to offer anything further, but I did notice these results look pretty informative.
It's really great...was started up by a former co-founder of firefox that hated what they had become. Takes a bit of getting used to but IMO is superior. Until I hear something shady it's my goto
Check out Waterfox. Firefox w/out the telemetry, pocket, etc,. Been around a while. Accepts all FF extensions, too. I recommend adding the 'uBlock Origin'.
I really like the UI of Firefox and generally feel like it's the best of the mainstream browsers. I've been using Brave the last few days and it's fine though slightly clunkier than what I'm used to. I'm also giving Waterfox a try and of course I like the layout since I'm so used to it. But the lack of an iOS option is disappointing. I really liked Firefox's option to send a tab from mobile to desktop and vice versa. Is there a way I can still do that using Waterfox on the PC and some other browser on iOS?
Which Brave is doing isn't that right ? Iirc Brave has removed all Google related stuff.
It's been a long time since I've looked at it, but I seriously doubt it. Many parts of Chromium inherently still use Google related services, the extent of which you may or may not find troubling.
Even their development is transparent and it actually progresses forward unlike Firefox's which goes 1 step forward 10 steps back.
Both are FLOSS projects so I don't know what you could be referring to by transparency, nor do I know of any regressions made in Firefox.
They care more about politics and diversity hire than their browser.
I'm not disupting that I dislike the company, don't get me wrong, but from a privacy standpoint they are the best choice. There are only Firefox and Chromium based browsers. You have to make a choice.
Get yourself Ubuntu and install it on a PC or laptop sometime. It's Linux, it has a clean UI, and it works. I have a dual boot with Windows if I really ever need anything proprietary but honestly, I haven't logged into Windows in years.
Canonical is controlled by Microsoft and Amazon. Ubuntu is a good introduction for new Linux users, but migrate to another distro as soon as you are comfortable.
You don't have to be a programmer, you just have to be able to download a file and run it on a PC. Have fun with your walled garden of tyranny! Keep complaining about how your slave masters won't let you say what you want or do what you want. Open source software is the only way to fight this long term.
Even one of Firefox's last advantages was lost when it got the Quantum update, aka it lost its good addon support. They got limited so hard its a travesty.
every answer in this thread tells me no matter where you go in some form all these people are associated, I really think there is going to be a rise up TRUE alternatives but each one of them will have the temptation of enormous greed waved in front of their faces or have some sort of 'agent' inserted into their company which slowly deteriorates it.
this is why Billionaire "rogues" are so powerful the temptation isnt there
Aren't these browsers free? Why switch? Are they sending info secretly to the home planet? I don't understand. It's not like there's any ads scrolling the bottom of the browser, is there? Serious question. BTW I have 64-bit Waterfox and it's great.
I am using firefox because I hate that spying chrome so when I have problems getting around in here I switch to Brave. But after seeing what Mozilla said I will delete it.
Duck Duck Go is my homeboy
True, not good guys, but not Goolag. They track you less/none, so they are a bit better.
Hey, sometimes you need a search engine. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I will - thanks for the reco ?
Super slow for me.
I tried yippy; thought I read about foreign connections. Didn't care for it anyway.
Thanks!
So we cannot use anything anymore. I don't want to use chrome for spying reasons so Ill stick with FF for now...
I use vivaldi. I like it a lot. You can try the Brave browser. it used Chrome without google
I love the reader view option. Sometimes you go to a website and it is just overloaded with ads. click on reader view and all you see is the article. Awesome. Does not work all the time
This!
It's built on Chromium but it is certainly not google free. It's nowhere near as bad as actual Chrome, but Firefox is better from a privacy perspective.
How is it not Google free?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQhWdsFMc24
Changed all my apps and search engine today. What a pain in the ass but i had a freedom bone the whole time I was doing it!!
What did you change to for everything? Looking to do the same.
Duck duck go but it would appear they are only marginally better. I have to do more research today
If you want an easy way to avoid Google related services just try Brave.

This 100%

Same here... Nord VPN did a study saying it was the best and most secure mainstream browser.
I am now looking for alternatives, but finding problems with Brave also, so still not sure what to switch to.
Yeah, Opera was bought by the chinese a while back...
Microsoft Edge is not very good either...
Anyway, I switched to Brave - moved all of my bookmarks, etc.
Brave is working really well so far...
Anybody have thoughts on opera, Microsoft edge?
Opera is now Chinese owned.
Since when?
Edge is now Chromium based...
Brave browser s the most secure.
Well chrome spies on everything so naturally firefox was a good alternative. Brave is better but has some compatibility issues with a lot of sites
Brave is built on top of chrome.
on top of the chromium engine specifically which is under the hood of Chrome but not specifically, Chrome.
Best,
Toofy ?
Yes, but still maintained by google and known inside and out by google engineers and has custom code injection built into the everyday compilers we use.
People who want niche plug-ins. Mozilla is has been running with the gas indicator on E for a long time.
What you on about... it’s the best one - rest are even more fucking full of shit... look at my comment above...
Everywhere you turn - these cunts are in bed together.
Fine - yes i downloaded that one. Still pissed. And I still use safari mostly because of passwords stuff and despite apples shit they are still better than android and google.
Its fucking sad man.

A programmer told me even chromium "phones home" like Chrome. It's in the "free and open source code". No one bothered to look.
Except it is doesn't work on sites that have issues with Chrome. Online subscription photo editor, for example. Brave doesn't work right, so I have to use Firefox. I dont know of another option
Another question it asks for web search...
Been using DuckDuckGo - they also offer qwant and startpage.. do you know anything about the last 2?
Yeah okay... I’m I can’t search the internet without a web browser...
What about the other two? And which should we use. Functionality is also somewhat imoortant.
It's built on top of the open-source chromium engine which Chrome the browser is also built on top of. It's all the other shit in the actual chrome browser that does the tracking and shit.
Best,
Toofy ?

I know you were asking for a reco, so this is not a smart ass comment – I’m too busy to offer anything further, but I did notice these results look pretty informative.
You’re too busy? Lol.. I literally asked what you use.. takes two seconds to answer.
Its easy to throw shade at everything out there. I get it. They are all bad..
What do you use.. maybe I’ll explore it more.
Been happy with the Brave Browser for 2 years
What are your thoughts and opinions on it?
It's really great...was started up by a former co-founder of firefox that hated what they had become. Takes a bit of getting used to but IMO is superior. Until I hear something shady it's my goto
Wow Firefox has been my browser for years. This is nuts. Bye bye.
Brave is good fren
Check out Waterfox. Firefox w/out the telemetry, pocket, etc,. Been around a while. Accepts all FF extensions, too. I recommend adding the 'uBlock Origin'.

Brave is a good start
https://brave.com/
brave is built on chrome
Is it really? You don't think they have the ability to inject code via the compiler?
Yes, but how can you verify that the compiler is not inserting code when it detects its compiling chromium?
Works fine if your compiling your own version of chromium, using your own compiled compiler (not using gcc binaries downloaded from the internet).
But nobody ever does that, how do you really know whats in your gcc compiler? You don't.
Chromium is not Chrome, but Chromium is not Google free.
Which Brave is doing isn't that right ? Iirc Brave has removed all Google related stuff.
Even their development is transparent and it actually progresses forward unlike Firefox's which goes 1 step forward 10 steps back.

Shout out for Vivaldi browser. Been using it for years. Very customizable.
I've been using Vivaldi for at least 6 months now. I like it way more than Chrome.
Duckduckgo actually has its own app
UGH
https://swisscows.com
I uninstalled that piece of shit when they banned dissenter way back then. I knew it back then they are just another tyrant in the making.
Edit:
I use Brave now. Not great, as it still relies on chrome but it comes with tor.
As somebody else mentioned, it actually runs on Chromium, which is the open source browser that the actual Chrome app is built on top of.
So it’s good.
Well... this is fucking sad...
Firefox is still the best one.. who else corrupt fucking Bill gates windows explorer ? Or the evil google?
Firefox always had privacy as one of its values... more than the rest...
Oh I like safari... but wait Apple tried to take off parler from its App Store and shit because they want censorship....
So wtf man!!!!! Fucking hell.. we have nothing fucking left...
Cant cancel everything. These cunts have their dirty fingers in everything.
Mac OS most of the time sometimes windows.
I understand we fucked no matter what - Snowden proves it.
But still - I still value companies fighting for or towards privacy - some do it more than others.
Googles entire bussiness model for example is centered around selling your information.
Yeah not happening. I like OS X and iOS and I’m no programmer. Don’t have time for that.
You don't have to be a programmer, you just have to be able to download a file and run it on a PC. Have fun with your walled garden of tyranny! Keep complaining about how your slave masters won't let you say what you want or do what you want. Open source software is the only way to fight this long term.
I switched to Waterfox years ago,
Never went back
Even one of Firefox's last advantages was lost when it got the Quantum update, aka it lost its good addon support. They got limited so hard its a travesty.
We need some alternatives for those who dont know.
This is the business the Trump family needs to get into.
news
internet
Build the platform Mr. President and we will come
I switched to Brave browser which is fast and even matter more secure.
I stopped using Mozilla products when they forced out Brendan Eich for his political beliefs.
I'm a happy Brave user
Brave works the best for me. No ads and is lightning fast
firefox can go suck fox cocks
If you like Firefox and want an alternative, check out LibreWolf. It is based on Firefox with some privacy concerning features removed.
Brave is built on Chrome though. Does it mine your data? There aren't really any other options at this point, are there?
Vivaldi
None of them are fool-proof, but I've been very happy with Opera - and, believe me, I've tried them all :-0
Absolutely ridiculous. So much for making the internet an ‘open web’.
brave browser
every answer in this thread tells me no matter where you go in some form all these people are associated, I really think there is going to be a rise up TRUE alternatives but each one of them will have the temptation of enormous greed waved in front of their faces or have some sort of 'agent' inserted into their company which slowly deteriorates it.

Has anyone been using Icecat or Iron? What are your thoughts?
SRWare Iron is great.
Runs exactly like Chrome.
Aren't these browsers free? Why switch? Are they sending info secretly to the home planet? I don't understand. It's not like there's any ads scrolling the bottom of the browser, is there? Serious question. BTW I have 64-bit Waterfox and it's great.
Damn thanks for letting us know. I thought Firefox was the last frontier when it came to browsers. Guess not. Sad really.
I also appreciate everyone posting good alternatives. I am downloading them now.
Laughts in google chrome with logged in profil :(
DDG is the best way to go right now, imo.
Unless some of y'all have a better option?
And someone here recommended “Yippy” btw
Somebody mentioned these two, so I did a quick DDG search and got these results, they look pretty good. I haven’t had time to follow up on it yet.
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=quant+startpage+privacy+political+comparison
Fabulous.
I've been using FF to get away from MS products. Suggestions? I've heard mention of the browser called Brave. How is that one?
Brave browser FTW.
When are these companies gonna learn, it is more profitable to STFU?
I am using firefox because I hate that spying chrome so when I have problems getting around in here I switch to Brave. But after seeing what Mozilla said I will delete it.
No way! This is news to me. So, WHAT browser is a better choice? Running Linux....
