I have funny memory traveling with 30 lbs of junk silver back in 2007. The Airport security agent thought i was nuts. He wondered why I was traveling with so many dimes and quarters, and I said, "back then you used real money".

I'd highly recommend against posts about this, specifically showing your silver. Take it a step further and never tell anyone you know that you know own some silver

Just to add to your comment about records - if you purchase with a credit card or other non-cash method, keep a record even if it's just notes on a notepad locked in a safe with receipts. It's not entirely out of the question if, in a dire financial system situation, the government decides to question private citizens about the source of either their metal or their ability to maintain income. Whether or not receipts could protect someone is also unsure, but it may be better to have receipts than to not have proof of ownership.

I dont know why people would downvote me for this advice. It's not a good idea to have it be commonly known that you own a valuable metal and keep it in your house, people you think you trust could get some ideas...

Important tip in buying Silver: be VERY careful who u buy from. I researched where mints get their silver from. Turns out SEVERAL get their blanks they press into coins and bars from ... CHINA. YEP, its super easy to research. Search online using the mints legal name, ‘blank’, and ‘shipping’. U will find shipping lading bills on line for blanks to these mints. LAST YEAR china was busted for selling fake gold. FAKE. Be cery very careful.

Have faith that we won't be getting to that point... But also don't make dumb slip ups. For a few hundred bucks worth of silver, not a huge deal, but definitely don't be so loose with the pics.

Silver coins are much easier to use when it is necessary for barter or whatever. A bar can go for more but harder to break into pieces.

Nearly every town/city i have ever been to has coin shops or gold /silver shops. I'm in nowhere Tn and have atleast 6 I know of in driving distance. I like to buy silver eagles 1oz every so often at 25 to 28 bucks each but my favorite is pre63 dimes and quaters, figure if shit ever gets bad, a dime or a quater in silver will be easy to spend.

This is not a cheap place to buy silver, but dismecoins.com has great Trump coins and even a Q coin available. Above the market, but minted and collectible. They advertise on RSBN. Use RSBN as a coupon code. I made my family and friends really excited this year. They have the collection in solid copper available too. Much more affordable and should go up in value as well.

Yes, but if you want instant liquidity, who will buy your bar at current rate? If you have coins, minted for collections, you have emotional buyers who want both value and liquidity.

Depends where you live. Norway is one example where coins are vat free, because you’re not allowed to put vat on legal tender. So a maple leaf is seen as a CAD 5 coin with no vat, but a silver bar will have vat making it 25% more expensive.

I understand, but this forum is very international, and your claim that bars are cheaper than coins aren’t always correct. Silver coins are as liquid as bars, but some coins are more expensive due to their collectible state. If you go for the maple leaf, Krūgerrand or the silver eagle you are safe.

But most important, divide your investments, according to Q the market will have a huge “correction”, and being “all in” in the stock market is never a good idea.

This is an excellent point. It brings up the fact that some items are widely known and instantly recognized. ASE, Krugerrand, Maple Leaf, Philharmoic, Kookaburra, even Panda are widely recognized. So it comes down to everyone's own situation, locale, and their end game plan. Bars are excellent for getting "more silver per dollar/pound/euro/yen". But some coins carry a premium because they are instantly recognizable, especially in an emergency situation where one is trying to book passage on a train/boat/plane away from hostile territory.

So if this gesaro thing happens do we get screwed again like 1933 wheee we have to turn in gold and silver at govt. Prices then they jack the price up.

▲ 2 ▼
– Loyal2Liberty 2 points 5 years ago +2 / -0

Only gold was confiscated, not silver. And individuals were allowed to keep some gold coins - 5, if I remember correctly. Also many people turned their gold coins into charms/jewelry so they were allowed to keep them. It was government overreach for sure, but people found ways to work around it. I understand your point and feel it is worth considering, but we should at least get the facts surrounding the 1933 gold-confiscation correct.

Yes. I got a few pre 1933 gold coins so they sure didn't get em all. Just I'd hate to see the gold rip off again.

Part of it was that the "numismatic" stuff wasn't outlawed. That exemption has had some people decide to invest in more non-generic stuff just in case a similar confiscation happened today. It seems as if FDR only wanted all government minted coinage back in the government vaults. Jewelry or other ornamental items not used in everyday transactions weren't high on their list, so there wasn't an urgent rush to confiscate it.

I believe Ag is more attractive than Au. Silver has been manipulated into the ground for decades, which I've been preaching for years. I've been buying silver whenever I can because I know JP Morgan will get screwed at some point.
