I won't ever use the word myself as I was brought up not to judge a person on skin color and I think others are shills or shock jocks who do use it here, but what part of infringed do people not understand? I think the original post made by the moderator was an over reaction. I have never seen the n word mentioned on this board and 70 people agree with me. The majority here are respectful and abide by the rules. This post is also an over reaction. Newbies could see this group not as racists but as curtailers of free speech. Disagree mod, respectfully. I don't use the word, and never have, by Choice. Don't want to lost the staunch free speech supporters, it is a big part of the movement. By far and large, most use of the word comes from the race most perceive it to be a slur for. Reminds me of the time my coworker told me her white daughter wanted to improve the plight of black people on campus, so moved into their house. Became president of the house. I don't even know why the word would be uttered -- it's one of those words that serves no real purpose but to insult. If we're doing that, let's use a better word....like asshat or dumbass or ignorant bastard wait that's two words... You know what I mean.

I know some of you claim you don't use the n-word in a racist context, some of you use it as a form of rebellion to societal pressures to conform. Some of you are straight up racist. Some of you want other people to be comfortable using and seeing the word.

This right here completely misportrays the general sentiment. Most of the people who are upset about this don't use the word at all, myself included. I was under the impression that the word wasn't allowed, per the "Civil Discourse ONLY" rule in the sidebar, but that the mods would use discretion rather than ban all mention of it regardless of context (e.g. a quote containing the word).

The issue is twofold. People are concerned that the specific ban on this one word could be a slippery slope to even greater restrictions on what can and cannot be said, and people are upset with UhtredRagnarok's disrespectful and unprofessional behavior. It isn't helping that anyone who expresses this is lambasted as a racist and a shill, which is astoundingly hypocritical coming from people who claim to be against "inflammatory rhetoric."

It should be left up to the community to call out people for inappropriate behavior. By no means do i condone using the N word to offend anyone, but this is a slippery slope which is what people have been saying about the social media for years.
