Never made this connection before, but my leftie bosses match this.
They hired me in part because I was a software dev who could also do some modest design work (though I’m not a designer, which I stress repeatedly).
My bosses are very much the typical ones who look at white space on the screen and say “we need more stuff on the screen, fill this space up!” and “make the logo bigger, we’ve got all kinds of room” and “add more colors!”.
And then after doing what they ask, I get the “why is the text now lower on the screen?” (because you asked me to make the logo bigger, thereby pushing everything down) and “why doesn’t it look as nice as this competitor’s software?” (because you had me fill all white space with obnoxious crap and had me add every color in the rainbow to make it “pop”).
Somehow after asking for all this crap they can recognize that the whole thing looks horrible but still NEVER connect it back to what they asked me to do.
Which seems to match their social and economic politics perfectly.
These people seem to be missing the whole “cause and effect” part of their brains.
I always appreciate working with developers who know where that line stands for them; I try to do the same thing with my 'enough to be dangerous' knowledge of development/backend. Keep it going, fren.

In the 90s I spent a lot of time on IRC. One time someone hacked one of my bots. He tried to convince one of my friends he was really me. They knew it wasn't really me because typing on the fly like that I always made mistakes and all my friends were just used to it, but the imposter couldn't fake being me. It didn't take 10 lines of text and they knew it wasn't really me.
