posted 4 years ago by Donny_Fiasco 4 years ago by Donny_Fiasco +102 / -0

Is this the correct stuff? I don't want to get the wrong kind for my horse. He is 200lb which comes out to 4 dibs?

That's the correct item. Your calculation is accurate and your horse will be fine.

The Durvet OP mentioned is for horses. I have horses and have never ever seen a topical kind for them.

Incorrect. The bioavailabilty of ivermectin is 2.5x more absorbed when taken with food.

I thought it was only on an empty stomach if treating the horse for intestinal parasites? Otherwise, after a meal...

Thanks for the info, Zelenko says to take ivermectin with or after food, though I assume he means the people version which nobody can get. We have been doing ivermectin after dinner and no issues with the stomach so far. I do recall reading somewhere the ivermectin and Quercetin work together somehow but unfortunately I cannot find this. It's really messed up that we even have to have these conversations and figure this out on our own. I guess "science" can't help us here since this probably won't kill us no matter how we take it!

I’d have to find the source again but it basically said if you take on an empty stomach, the ivermectin only works on the parasites in your intestines. If you take with a meal since it’s fat soluble it will distribute the ivermectin more throughout your body,

I have been taking it with a glass of raw milk.

Sauce on the empty stomach if you have it. I've had it both ways and can't tell any difference.

Thank you for responding. I think my first dose was early in the morning so I got it right without knowing it. Any Idea how long you should wait before eating afterward? Just wondering if dumping hot coffee in on top of it helps/hurts.

In another thread, there was talk of rubbing on skin. In my country, ivermectin is sold for cows and deer as a topical application. Can buy a gallon of it that will be 1000 doses. Have calculated that one or two teaspoons should do the trick. My theory is that absorbing it through the skin will enter the bloodstream, rather than be processed through the digestive system. Just thinking out loud. Any thoughts from pedes here?

Skin application can be very effective, feet have the largest skin pores and tend to absorb quickly.

Your horse needs to consume it with a fatty meal to allow absorb into the blood stream.

Otherwise dose it on an empty stomach when treating for intestinal worms / parasites.

Correct 4 notches. I hope your horse feels better

permalink save report block reply
▲ 2 ▼
– MrJimLahey 2 points 4 years ago +2 / -0

Correct. Make sure it is not a plus or gold product. Those have extra stuff (antibiotics) in them that are not safe for two legged horses.

The notches vary by brand. But for the most part, following the weight markings on the tub corrospond to a .2mg per kg of body weight dosage. From the FLCCC that is the preventive dose. If you actually have the coof, double that for a .4mg / kg dose.

In my case with my body weight (225lbs) I was using roughly a 1/4 of the tube at a time with the higher dose.

permalink save report block reply
▲ 2 ▼
– Donny_Fiasco [S] 2 points 4 years ago +2 / -0

Do you wait 2 days for the second dose?

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 2 ▼
– MrJimLahey 2 points 4 years ago +2 / -0

If you are taking just the preventive dose, then yes. If you actually have the coof, then every day for 5 days until recovered.

There are a few different protocols out there, but the FLCCC is the one I followed. They seem to be one of the leaders in all this.

I'm not a doctor or any kinda expert. Just a 2 legged horse that has been doing a ton of reading. :)

▲ 1 ▼

So what does. 04 kg equate to on the ivermectin plunger?

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 2 ▼
– MrJimLahey 2 points 4 years ago +2 / -0

Depending on the brand, but it seems like for most it's double the body weight.

Say you are 200lbs, and you set the slider to 200lbs. That's a 0.2mg/kg dose (the preventive). Setting it to 400lbs should get you to the 0.4mg dose. Note the FLCCC advises even going up to 0.6mg for very high risk, or if you start taking IVM late into the infection.

There was a great spreadsheet someone in /r/ivermectin made. You put in your dose you want, your weight and it'll tell you how many lbs to set the plunger to. Or how many pills of whatever dosage to take. The sub reddit is quarentined but I saved it at home. I'll try to remember to upload it to catbox tonight and start sharing it on here.

Remember that the dose (based on weight) for your horse is 0.2mg/kg.
If your horse is in a delta hot spot, the correct does is 0.6mg/kg. So you just triple the normal amount. Or in other words, pretend your horse is three times heavier than normal. My horse survived and thrived with the 0.6mg/kg.

Bioavailability of ivermectin is more 2x more effective with food. Quercetin is what makes zinc bioavailable, as well as acts as a rudimentary replacement of hcq. All three can cause stomach issues, though my horse hasn't had any problems, his Filly did experience some stomach discomfort. Both horses were back to normal in 72 hours. I'm not a veterinarian though, so I would recommend doing a little research. It is wise usually to take any supplements with food to avoid stomach upset. I was reading a few older posts here that explains zinc should be taken with copper as it depletes copper to be absorbed. Quercetin acts as a carrier for both. I added: Echinacea 380mg 2x daily Arnica oral tablets, as directed on the bottle for body ache. Lysine 2000mg Rhidolia Rosea 375mg 2x daily (ultra adaptogen and quite fascinating stuff.) Vitamin C 1000mg 2x daily Tylenol 500mg 2x daily since my Filly had a bit of a fever.

My horses were taking the durvet ivermectin for 5 days and then stopped. One tube treated both horses.. Both are back to complete health, although my horses seem to still be unable to smell or taste much of anything, it is returning slowly. Again, I'm just a veteran country lad, not a veternarian. Be sure to weigh your horses and calculate accordingly. Hope this helps.
