Yep, dogs are the only friend you can truly trust. They'll never lie to you, cheat you, steal from you ( well maybe your plate if you're not looking lol ), talk shit about you behind your back.
And, if you treat your dog even just a little decent, he'll stand in front of a train if it means your safety.
I swear my pups are the only thing keeping me going some days. No matter how shitty of a day I've had, or how crazy the outside world gets, I always, always have 4 really really happy souls when I come home. Makes everything bad just disappear.

just be wary of the drugs they may want to give. previcox may shut down their organs while making them appear happy to run around for a few days. that was our experience.
I used to give my dogs (purebred shepard and a rott shepard cross) white willow and glucosamine twice a day when they were getting older. I dumped the contents of the capsules into a little bit of butter and they lapped it right up. They could run around like normal right till the end.

My dog died just a few months ago... I'm still kind of torn up about it all, it was very unexpected. So I don't have him around anymore. But he did live a full life and was always taken care of. I just do still miss him.
Mine is just like that, and I a fine with it!

Lot of people had to learn the hard way of a lesson I taught my 3 kids (all 20-somethings now).
This simple lesson I taught them when they began High School: Just because someone talks to you daily does not make them your friend, it makes them an acquaintance. You will have many acquaintances throughout life, but only as many true friends as you can count on one hand. A friend will never stab you in the back, talk shit about you, and be there through thick and thin no matter what is going on with you, or their, lives at the time. Be friendly to people, but understand they are transitory. If you find someone who could be a true friend, cultivate that relationship and it'll last a lifetime.
I hear you. I moved to Florida from N.Y and I will tell you that they've all lost they're minds up there.
