Being given money to produce a ton of technology for the world has always been par for the course.
He still pays an ass load of taxes and so does Trump. They don't like that he doesn't pay all his money in taxes. Don't be dumb like them.
That's not a problem with him, that's a problem with the government giving away your money.
In one of his recent interviews he said there shouldn't be an electric vehicle tax credit. Also stated he pays 53% in taxes.
They're stupid enough to do it. That said, the government is paying Musk to build a rocket, and the government itself is building a rocket. Which are we getting a better bang for our buck on?

I want to do a lot of things too
I want a big house with a nice veranda, a dojo and gazebo in the back with an indoor pool and a two tier garage with a living quarters on top, with a Camaro, Corvette, Defender, F-350, Lotus Elise, a few motorcycles and a bunker under the ground with a hidden vault door accessible from the basement, where I store an armory worth of weapons, ammo and food/drink supplies.
But I am not able to do this, unfortunately.

Some people really hating on Musk here. I understand the complaint of the subsidies going to a billionaire but I think that is misdirected. The complaint should be with the system that allows that. Every other big money earner gets subsidized too, why single out Musk? He is a far cry from the only one receiving handouts.
The guy's entire business is based in America. From start to finish, it is all American made. If the goobmint is going to doll out my tax dollars, I prefer it to be to an American company and not one partnered with the commies.

Eh, I suppose so. Sure, he could say no to the handouts and doesn't. We could think of it too like tax loopholes. The loopholes are there and people use them. The public gets upset when people they don't like use them and scream tax evasion, but if they do like the people using them, they scream that the loopholes are there and it is legal to exercise them.
Ah, the subtle difference between evasion and avoidance. About 6 months or a fine usually.
Trump also uses those loopholes and collectively we didn't give him shit.
So it's a stupid reason to go after someone. After all, he's not out there advocating for higher taxes. That's the real key. You have millionaires and billionaires and trillionaires all using the tax loop holes and telling everyone else they need to spend more.
Fix the tax system for everyone. Wealthy people have to pay too much in taxes anyway. Taxation is theft.

No... its not necessarily okay at all. But the tools & mechanics are in place to big used by big & small companies.
Those companies are going to use those tools to thier advantage. They would but behind the rest of the industry if they didn't.

The shuttle program was ended because two full crews were lost to the same problem very soon to each other. The shuttle fleet was aging and it was always a bit of a flawed concept. The heat shield tiles being damaged on launch wasn't something they could ever completely solve because of the inherent design. We now have launch capabilities to low Earth orbit again, and we in fact have two possibilities from two different companies that mostly releases the shuttle, from Space X and Boeing.
I still don't know what to think of Musk, I just remember the lesson politicians have taught me: Just because they say all the right things doesn't mean I should trust them more.
