We get our "cat litter" from Tracker supply. We get the horse pelletize bedding. Little pellets just like the cat litter pellets for less than 1/4 the price. Been doing that for years. The cat hasn't turned into a horse yet. lol

Actually, one of my kitties developed a cough and I crushed up an Imectin tablet in her food and she was cured within hours.

It is similar to feline pine cat litter. Cat litter can be expensive. At tracker supply you can get a huge bag for about $6-$7.

Our store has hardly any canned cat food. Two cats ago I'd have been panic buying since he only ate wet food. Our two newest rescues eat all dry, and dry seems to be in good supply.

Must be regional supply issues. On the east coast it's been sparce since Christmas but have had plenty the last month or so. I inherited a pregnant mama who while pregnant and nursing has eaten me out of house and home. Getting kitten food now is hit and miss. And now with 8 kitties in the house, the litter bill is crazy. The horse pellet/sand suggestion is brilliant.

There are training aids available to get cats to use a normal toilet. 😺

No clue how effective it is.

Buy a bag of leg quarters. They are constantly on sale, and for around $5.00 you can feed them much healthier food for several weeks. You just have to boil it first. No big deal, and you don't have all that BS they add in.

I have fed cats raw eggs and sardines in an emergency.

Also, you can use earth and sawdust for the litter box, but you have to change it everyday.

What about butter or cream (not milk)? I have found they are long in the tooth when the meat is too lean. Also, I find tuna unappealing for that reason. But agreed, cats are picky eaters. One of mine only would eat cooked chicken, and would beg it off my plate. I would give her a large piece of breastmeat, and then she would eat it in the corner, leaving me in peace.

Also, the dry food for cats is like junk food for humans. Full of carbs.

We used to have a cat who would eat anything you gave her, as long as there was enough grease on it. She would eat hash browns from McDonald's.

We have to open our tuna cans outside, down the road, into the next county or the cat will hear/smell and demand half the can for herself. We haven't had a proper tuna fish sandwich since we brought her home and she installed herself as Empress.

I know a few people who use pellets for the stoves. Apparently, works amazing for absorbing the pee ( no clumps ) and eliminates the smell almost totally. Never tried it for some reason.

Yes, anything that dehydrates is excellent. My cats have even used newspaper, but you need a decent supply. Again, it needs changing every day. The advantage of newspaper is that you can pick it up without touching the poo (usually).

A reminder to take ivermectin at least once a month when you start getting closer to those poos with that technique.

The stove pellets and horse bedding need to be checked for phenol/pine oil before using as litter.

Phenol is absorbed rapidly, either by ingestion or through the skin, then metabolized by the liver. Unfortunately, cats lack the enzyme (glucuronyl transferase) needed to break down phenol. Exposure may lead to serious liver damage, liver failure, and may even be fatal.

Edit: Pine-Sol used to be dangerous to use on floors that cats walk on, due to the pine oil. No idea if it still contains the oil. I've never used the stuff.

Short term it's a good idea. Long term, the felines will need taurine supplement, because I don't think dog food has taurine in it.

I had a cat for 22 years and she ate what we ate a small share of whatever meat was for dinner or tins of tuna of a frozen half breast of chicken for convince rarely bought cat food maybe I was just lucky having a cat that would eat anything

Same goes for dogs what werethey fed in the days before mass manufacturing of dog food, table scraps and a share of the family dinner

I love my kitties but they are fussy eaters. I have weaned them off of canned food because their preferred brand is too hard to get. I picked up a couple of 30 lb bags of cat cereal at Tractor Supply. As for litter, I've watched my cats go enough in the yard to know that they are just as happy with sand in the litter box as they are actual litter. I picked up a couple bags at Lowes but I'm encouraging outdoor use of facilities whenever possible.

We've been having to order our dry food for them online for quite a while now. Pet stores and ( ugh, but they carry the food ) Walmart never seem to have it any more.

Never a problem getting the wet stuff ( for meds ) or dog food / their treats. We get the litter @ Costco actually, never have a problem getting that.

I order it from Wal-Mart and they have some way of scrounging it up. Usually from around here (Phoenix) but often Las Vegas and once as far as Indiana. The wet Friskies have been a little short and my cats don't like other brands.

I have 4 cats total. One of my cats is 18 1/2. The two oldest of them are on special separate Vet prescription diets and meds. Whereas, the two younger who are both sisters share the same regular food. I have been stocking up extra food for all of them when I can.

The meds I cannot stock up on, but I often ask for them before they are used up. I just hope I will still be able to get ahold of them in a pinch. One is on thryoid meds and the other one needs a potassium supplement.

get them from horse supply stores not the rabbit/guinea pig stuff. way cheaper.

I've been stocking up on cases of canned cat food for a while now. Because it's special food from the vet, I order mine on line and it's delivered. I haven't had any issues so far. I also intend to use construction sand instead of litter if I have to. I have a bag sitting in the garage.

Things I've noticed a shortage of:

I was looking for some spray paint and a specific cleaning product at a Home Depot that I've bought there regularly, but the items were out of stock with big sections of the shelves without product. One of the workers said they just weren't getting these things delivered. "We can't sell what we don't have," is what he said to me.

My Costco often runs out of paper goods such as paper towels and toilet paper after about 10:00 am. You have to be there when they open or you won't get any.

Some of the grocery stores are out of eggs and milk or brands of butter (or have very little left) when I go shopping.

So, I guess you notice the shortage if it is something that you usually buy and suddenly, it is not there.

Make your own food for it. And use dirt for your litter box if you have to. Put saw dust on the bottom, then cover that with dirt. The sawdust will absorb the urine. Saw dust is way cheaper than litter anyway.
