When people say, “I am fine with this, but just keep it behind closed doors”, they don’t realize that’s like saying, “Yeah, I’m fine with importing several million third world illiterate brown people into my local town, as long as they stay indoors.” It’s so stupid. Obviously nobody is going to stay permanently indoors so that conservatives can somehow both support a policy and not have it affect anything. As soon as you give anyone the greenlight, it’s a greenlight for them to weave themselves into all of society, and because of the conservative unwillingness to say “this is wrong and I don’t want this in society”, they’ve already conceded any possible argument against it with their initial “behind closed doors” position.
