I've got it bad. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

I've had tinnitus since my last deployment to AFG 6 years ago. I'm not sure what caused it, as it didn't develop after an explosion. I'm not aware of sonic weapons being used over there as in Havana (Syndrome). I've had audiologist work ups and they say 50% or greater success in dealing with tinnitus is learning how to ignore it. Hypnosis might work. The problem is tinnitus is not necessarily an audiology issue, but more of a brain/nerve issue. I hope your friend gets better, but mine has been persistent for years. I refuse to let it make me nuts.

Thanks for commenting it is my son. I do like hearing that people have learned to live with it. I think that's what he is going to have to do. The Dr Berg video someone shared with me did help him temporarily though FYI. https://youtu.be/3MDO8KB3zjk

Same here - took mortar rounds and ducked into a building with an alarm and no ear protection. ringing ever since. refusing to let it make me nuts is a good way to put things.

I have a friend who deals with it. After working with a naturopath she found that it is hormone related. For her, it was a thyroid issue.

Try ivermectin, it works on a lot of things.

I second ivermectin. A healthy dose twice daily with some sunflower oil will fix it in no time.

I feel your loved ones pain on Tinnitus. I have Meniere’s and Tinnitus can get really loud, right now as I type this it is pretty loud for me. I haven’t found a cure for it, if there even is one. I know before I get a Meniere’s episode (most call them attacks, I just don’’t like to call it that), my ear will start to get a “full” feeling, the more “full” it gets the louder the ringing gets. But even when my ear isn’t “full” I always have ringing in both ears. If you let it it can drive you crazy.

Certain loud noises hurts my ear and can make me instantly off kilter and sick to my stomach. My husband whistled next to me to get a neighbors attention down the street, it was not good for me for a few hours. Sometimes being in a very crowded place where it’s really loud is too much for me, it’s almost like being overwhelmed and you feel the need to leave.

It’s hard to do sometimes, but try not to concentrate on the ringing, push the mind to think of other things, and it could just become somewhat normal. If I start to focus too much on the ringing, I get up from where I’m sitting and go do something else to focus my mind on something new.

This is hyperacusis, sensitivity to sounds. If I am not at home, I keep an earplug in my worst ear because you never know when the grocery clerk is going to drop something, etc....or someone will choose to honk their horn when getting gas...stupid stuff, but it hurts.

I have been suffering from T for almost 20 years now and there is good news and bad news. Bad news, there is no cure. None. Don't waste time and money. Good news, it is manageable and soon the person suffering will truly forget they have it. It just blends into the background and once in a while, they will say, "Oh there it is again," and move right on and forget about it.

It depends on the severity....for some, it never fades into the background.

There is the ATA....but they only have basic resources.

https://www.ata.org/

There is no cure for tinnitus....always have earplugs available because UNLIKE the last two years of covid...tinnitus sufferers protect themselves from others...they don't require everyone else to speak softly...lol.

High incidence of suicide from tinnitus, give them your support.

Tinnitus SUCKS, but you must learn that it will always be there as a PITA but not life threatening (unless...well see above.)

"Lectofan" is a great, a non-repeating electronic noise maker to help one sleep.

There are also hearing aids that have masking sounds for patients.

Anytime you are next to someone and have to raise your voice to speak with them, you are probably in an environment that requires hearing protection.

Many have hyperacusis too, real physical pain from common sounds like the clanking of dishes.

Do not dwell on the internet....only bad news. Protect what hearing you have left, and try to live a normal life...and stay busy....an active mind quiets tinnitus.

Anything else, ask away.

Sadly, this is the only relief I have found. On a positive note, the same weed relieves me from sleeplessness, anxiety, chronic pain, and also completely replaced chemical prescription drugs in my life.

Not a cure, but it can help me sometimes is the Finger Snapping/Drumming Technique.

Its a bit awkward to explain how to do it, but if you search for it there should be a video/article that'll explain it.

It'll depend on how bad the tinnitus is, but may help alleviate it for a bit which if its been going on persistently, can give some relief even if only briefly.

– Spongebob1808 -2 points 3 years ago +1 / -3

This only works briefly because it distracts the mind ... it is worthless really...but a great internet fad.

▲ 1 ▼
– Spongebob1808 1 point 3 years ago +1 / -0

For the downvoters who believe snapping fingers will be a solution.....this is a better way to go about doing it.

https://tinnitusmix.com/

I am not affiliated with this, nor did it help me....but allegedly it has helped others.

It is jarring at first....listen to it at a softer volume (author recommends wearing special headphones while you sleep). It distracts the mind and changes the brain's sensitivity threshold....but again, it seems to be temporary....

It lasts longer than snapping or drumming....but just a bit more.

I underwent a complete auditory check and the doc told me it was stress related. It used to drive me nuts. But after a while it just went away (of course I have always tried to control stress response) or maybe I just got used to it and "tuned it out".

So a good friend of mine who is doctor, went to a Naturopathic doctor to get treated for Tinnitus. The solution was ozone treatment... they literally pump ozone into your ear canal. Also, don't drink alcohol or have nicotine. They can cause tinnitus, because they can lead to hypertension / poor circulation, especially in the small vessels in your ears.

The ozone helps promote blood vessel growth / healing.

You need to act fast.....if you have exposure and can act within a week, high doses of Prednisone may help (steroid anti-inflammatory) but after 14 days, it won't help. Also, if you act immediately a hyperbaric chamber may help.

Most tinnitus is caused by damage to the inner ear cilia, and those do not grow back, but if they are damaged an increase of blood supply may help them not to die off.

The brain is left without a frequency band, so the brain tries to fill it in with "noise."

I had plenty of NAC on hand for tinnitus....and then it worked for Covid too....

NAC may help, some say turmeric, vitamin B complex.

Ringing in the ears is most likely caused by high blood pressure. Natto works to lower it.

After the Witch-docs tried their darndest to take me out, I've used Natto for years

= as Anti-coagulant (as when they Overdosed me on IV-heparin) I got Clots... it works BUT alot of people don't know that you need to take it around the Clock every 4 hrs to maintain a Loading dose in your blood. - IF you let it lapse, gotta Start all over

It depends what it’s caused by. I have only had tinnitus sporadically, from Lyme and Bartonella. Is there a head injury involved? Frequent sinus infections? Have they been to an ENT?

Find the root cause first.

I think there are different kinds of sounds in the ear.

I always have what some refer to as tinnitus. I've had it all my life.

I love it. It changes depending on the environment, what I've eaten, time of day.

Once I had a tooth infection and the sound became intense, loud, raw, harsh, ugly.

The dentist gave me antibiotics and the sound went back to normal.

So maybe this harsher sound is what people complain about.

The pleasant sound is good to meditate to -- nada yoga.

Follow it out. Let it lull you to sleep.
