I've read countless prepping articles, I'm not sure I need another link to a prepping blog. I'm am more interested in knowing what my extremely smart anons are doing for prepping. An article might say I only need two weeks of food or 2 years of food, but realistically based on the political data gathered from this forum, is 3 months of food enough or too much? Is a couple cases of bullets enough or is more needed?
What prepping supplies and how much prepping supplies do YOU guys have considering that some food prepping makes sense but I doubt that things will be so bad that we need a years supply of food.
Thank you everyone!!! I'm just a worried father of 3 youngins trying to prep with a somewhat limited budget.
Also should I take out all my money from my bank and put it in a credit union or is it smarter to have it at my house because credit unions might not be accessible or might go under too?
Many meds are good well past their expiration dates. Antibiotics in particular only lose a fraction of their effectiveness. Do a little searching and perhaps print out the best of what you find. If SHTF you're not getting internet anytime soon.
I have two months...but I believe IF it goes past two weeks...Things would go Bananas here...Hell... IF Fast food closed down that would bring the Normies to the Brink!
2 weeks. I think 2 days and people will go bananas
Fast food and internet lol
Two years wouldn't be out of the question. Freeze dried foods store almost indefinitely. Just water to rehydrate and heat up. Country folks need weapons because of bands of people who don't mind stealing what others have prepared for. The city folk without protection need to shore up their habitat or move to secure locations. It will change the perspective of a lot of progressives when they realize without fuel and food they can't survive.
Get you some back yard pets (couple of chickens) and turn that cash into silver coins.
Food shelter water ammo.
Lures
Yep! I live in a river town and I have a few poles and a tackle box. If shtf, I like fish kek
......yeah I am worried about all the limb lines, trout lines, and jugs
Oof I didn't think about that
For the kiddos:
Games and activities they can play without power.
Glow sticks as rewards for being helpful.
Treats they like (both sweet and salty) that you can give them from time to time when they grow weary of the stored foods.
Powdered milk and Nesquik and/or other powdered mixes to make the milk more palatable
By now, get what you can. You should have been prepping this whole time. But, lets say you only get 1 week worth of food. That is 1 more week you have. Try for 2 weeks worth of food. 1 box of ammo. Learn about medicinal herbs, learn how to tie a few knots. It is getting cold, prepare for the immediate danger of cold. Have seeds for the spring.
Do what you can with what you have. If the numbers are accurate, we only have about 20 days of diesel. What happens on day 21?
Try to learn about your local plants. What's edible, medicinal, toilet paper... Take reference pics and notes or get a good field guide.
Beans to eat and extra toilet paper to barter. WAIT! Is Trump dooming?
I know this might sound nuts, but get some dirt cheap high proof booze. It stores well and there are people that will trade damn near anything for it if SHTF.
I did that last year! I figure I can live about 6 months without having to leave my house if needed. Got some junk silver as well to buy essentials. I don't expect it to get that bad, but the DS won't willingly give up power and they have repeatedly shown how far they will go to retain it. Hope for the best and prepare for the worst is all we can do.
Exactly. I make my own home brew mead as a hobby and I've been stocking it up as a bartering tool. Thankfully I have a really good friend who raises bees lol. And if I don't end up trading it for anything, then I have a ton of aged mead to share!
Hey! How Did I miss that? Might work even better!
More like warning. Almost everything he predicted has come true with the exception of Joe Biden getting hit with the 25th amendment. But what is the alternative? Heels Up Harris who loves word salads or Nasty Nancy who drinks everything in sight?
It is clearly recognized that we are living in Biblical times. Maybe we should look into the Bible for clues. Genesis 41 might be an interesting place to start.
And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on. The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment. Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls? And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit? If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest? Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith? And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you
-Luke 12:22-31
I like to think about building knowledge more then actual supplies. It's nice to be able to cook over a fire. Cook food and get medicines from local "weeds". It's nice that I can hit things I shoot at. It's helpful to be able to walk for miles without being dead tired. Supplies are nice but you could exercise or learn something helpful when you are short on cash.
I am personally trying for 6 months.
That's really ambitious. Chest freezers are expensive! 6 months of food? And how much ammo?
I am doing mostly dry foods. No ammo. Don't own a gun.
It's tough to get one in Chicago.
Luckily I am in a high-rise apartment on the 31st floor.
I would buy atleast a box of ammo for barter. If u never need, you can always give to a friend
I'm in TX so this concept is completely foreign to me, but in Illinois they need a Firearm Owner’s Identification (“FOID”) card just to buy ammo. Incredibly you have to be 21 to get the card, but you can get a note from Mommy (SERIOUSLY) to purchase ammo if you are under 21.
By the way - I'm not sure I'd want to live so high up if the SHTF. Think elevators and water when the power dies.
That’s a good idea.
If I were you, I'd take a nice drive over the state line to Indiana and look into purchasing a shotgun. you can get a decent cheap shotgun for under $200 and ammo is pretty cheap and is plentiful for them as well.
Another good idea. I am from Indiana.
BB guns look pretty real these days. Also hurt.
Hurt does not equal stop.
True…but might be a deterrent or stop someone long enough to get away if you don’t have guns and live in a state where you aren’t allowed to get them.
"shall not be infringed". The example I was talking about was having it in your house/apartment during a time of social chaos caused b y food shortages - screw whatever unconstitutional law your democrat overlords have on the books.
Agreed.
Got any family or friends outside the city?
Yes I do. They are back in Indiana.
Reach out in case you need to bug out, and maybe have stuff to take that would be useful for them as well.
Will do!
Yeah never been a gun person. My dad and grandmother both had them.
Just never got around to getting one.
Pick up a hammer and some new tighty-whities while you're at it -- you never know when some gay prostitute, BLM supporter, Canuck, Ultra-MAGA guy will break in and challenge you to a hammer fight...
Aim for dried food. There is no guarantee that the West will not suffer the power shortages the UK and Europe are. Local hardware store or just google - food grade buckets with lids. We have oats, rice, pasta, flour, sugar, beans, salt, etc. stored. Have for many years. The buckets should be lined with MYLAR BAGS, fill to near top, drop in oxygen absorbers and seal with hot iron. Instructions on Ytube. Once bags are sealed the oxygen absorbers will do their job. Then put the lid on correctly, label and date it. In some cases these staples can last 20 years.
If you go on PINTEREST people have created tables to show how much food for say 2 adults and 2 children for 2 weeks up to 2 years.
Oh, and don't put oxygen absorbers in the sugar unless you like having to chisel it apart.
Or salt. 😀. But in general. You learn that as you go along. There was a series of videos that I followed years ago about this one family, but there was the Mum and Dad, the 2 sons and wives and daughters and their husbands etc. that shopped big at a Amish market. They had car loads of produce and they had a day of just dividing up the items they purchased in bulk and breaking them into the family lots, then into the buckets. They did a canning day too. Many hands make light work.
Keep a rotation of fresh water jugs going so you can make the rice and have fluid.
We are lucky in Australia. Every new home going back 15 years must have a water tank. But as time went by, it became obvious to install one even if your home was a hundred years old. 100 years ago every home had a corrugated iron tank, then some bright spark on council said to pull them down. Decades later they are back and come in all shapes and sizes and colours. They are poly tanks these days. We have ours on a ‘tank stand’ and the water off the roof via the gutter. We’re capped it off as we are getting flooding rains and this water just goes down the stormwater pipes. Such waste. We could have an inland sea if our politicians had brains, but it flows to the sea and is wasted. It would open up our outback which is arid but as it is in Australia, flooding rains then drought, but before that the bushfires. We’re on the east coast and we normally have high winds in August but they are roaring atm. drying out our land, come summer it will be a tinderbox.

I wouldn't bank on all frozen foods in case there's no electricity. Dried beans and rice are cheaper, and can go a long ways. Make sure you have a way to get clean water as well. Like a LifeProof straw or something similar at least one for each family member.
I wonder if they would still sprout? If you have any left, wrap a few in a damp paper towel and stick it in a sandwich bag for a few days. The sprouts are tasty and nutritious, and a nice fresh change from dried beans and rice.
Another idea for city / apartment folks.... buy a sprouting container and some seeds. They can sit right on your countertop and require no special lights. Pour a cup or 2 of water over them twice a day and in 3-4 days, you have fresh sprouts. Cheap, easy, no dirt, no lights.
Oh really? That's a bummer. I bought ours from an organic farm online. The reviews are really good, but I guess I should have tried eating some before putting them in the mylar bags and buckets. 🤦♀️
I have about 3 years stored up, along with toiletries, ammo, seeds / gardening supplies, tools, etc. But we are the bugout house for many of our friends and family, so I am not sure we have enough. If those people can get here with their own supplies or if they aren't able to packup anything will make a big difference. We bought a freeze drier and put up our own FDed foods. I enjoy canning and we have tons of home canned veggies, meats, soups, jellies, etc. I know how to make bread and have a lot of wheat berries and other ingredients put up. We have some big solar generators (batteries) and solar panels, not enough to run the house, but enough to run our well, keep some freezers going, run the bread maker, etc.
We live very rural on 100 acres 30 miles from town. We have chickens, we plan on adding some livestock in the next year. Our ultimate goal is to be as self-sustaining as possible... but that is still a long ways off.
If it is going to be biblical, then 7 years of food is probably a good goal. But it would be pretty hard for the average person to attain, so I would save up a years worth and have plans to become self-sustaining in that year. Know how to garden and save seeds. Know what to do with the harvest to preserve it. Know how to hunt and clean an animal. I don't think there will be much wildlife left within a few months of SHTF, so maybe try to get a few kills early and preserve all that meat so you have protein to live off of.
Do you have a plan for water? Where are you going to poop? If you live on city water/sewer, you need a plan. If you live on well & septic, you need a plan to keep the well running. Hand pump, solar, batteries. A way to filter and clean water. Keep in mind, bleach has a short shelf life.
As far as money, I keep cash on hand for several months worth of bills, although the dollar will become worthless pretty quickly (IMHO). Precious metals are great, smaller pieces will be better for barter. Big pieces for wealth preservation. Never tell anyone what you have or you will become a target.
It drives me crazy when people know what is coming but say God will take care of them. God is giving you the knowledge and ability to prepare. You have your own free will, you must take care of yourself and your family. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parable_of_the_drowning_man

Birds don't hoard food. Yet every day, they eat. Why? Faith.
Yes, but Scripture says that a wise man sees trouble coming and gets out of the way.
If you even just have 3 weeks of food, I’m guessing you will be better off than 90% of the people out there. If food is scarce for 3 weeks, society will collapse and I don’t think Trump would let that be part of the plan. So I have three months, and if you have three months then you should be more than fine. While there might be a 1 in 1,000,000 chance we get to the point of needing two years of food, I think folks saying that are going a little overboard. Well, a lot overboard.
The money part I pay closer attention to because Q has said indirectly currency and the Fed will collapse, which means you definitely want to plan on that and I think if you can securely store it at home having cash in your house is better than having it in a bank that’s going to lock down withdrawals as soon as there’s a rush for money. I’m in the process of moving my accounts from Bank of America to a local credit union. Mainly because of Bank of America’s racist mortgage program they recently started. But also because I would rather have it in a local business versus a corporate bank that’s on the verge of bankruptcy.
Ammo, while the more the better, I would think 2-3 boxes should cover us. If things get bad the National Guard will hopefully step in to control stuff. I imagine if you do get folks trying to break in and steal your stuff you fire off a couple warning shots and they’ll be long gone. It’s not like the zombie apocalypse where you would be constantly having to fight off attackers. There’s a lot of unarmed people out there so living hoodlums are going to be smart and just go for the houses that have no defenses.
Now, if you are a Christian who won’t be taking the mark of the beast when that happens, then you need to be self sufficient for 3.5 years. No way to buy anything. Except black market. And there will be government coming after you constantly, which means lots of bullets. But that is a different event, for a different time down the road. So that hasn’t entered my realm of concern yet.
Dry beans - they are easy to cook -, rice, some burger if you can get it at a decent price. It may be easier to get some cheaper meat and toss little pieces in a blender to grind up unless you have a grinder. Beans, rice and a pound of burger or chicken will make a nice meal for a family of 5.
Bread isn’t that hard to make. I used to be afraid of it, but tried it using different EASY recipes and now I am not afraid of it and have plenty of flour and yeast so I can make bread. Bisquick just needs a little water or milk to make biscuits. Add sugar for something sweet. We have a well, but after a major earthquake a few years ago (Alaska), we had dingy water for a few days. We now keep four 5 gallon jugs of water in our spare bathtub. After cooking meat, you can use the left overs by grinding them up and mixing with mayo….great sandwiches. Save chicken bones for soup. Sometimes a rotisserie chicken is cheaper to buy than a whole fryer. Rice can go into your soup.
We have a lot of Alaskans on here... Was going to say, yep to simple breads! Make sure to keep hard copies of tried and true recipes. Oh, and honey! Great sweetener that doesn't seem to ever go bad. I guess even that jar of Egyptian honey found in a tomb thousands of years old was still viable.
Dead in 3 days without water. Water, ammo first 2. Cant hold anything without ammo
Where do you live? Are you in city? Burbs? Rural?
If in city it'll be a lot tougher if things turn hot for more than a few weeks.
Just a thought.
Buy physical silver and keep that hidden somewhere under your control. Keep you money out of the bank
Think for a bit about what realistically might happen in your neighborhood if SHTF, and then set some realistic goals. Start with prepping for 1 week, then expand it to 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 3 months, etc. The longer it goes before SHTF, the more prepared you will be.
Good fences make good neighbors.
Dry goods are cheap and keep for long times. Rice , beans and some canned protein. Tuna mackerel, chicken and beef. Canned fruit. Powdered milk., I have a special needs niece, I must make provisions for her , she only eats formula with a stomach feed. In case we run out we can use canned beans peanut butter stuff like that. To be clear we will abc the food (already been chewed) you will need a method to cook with also , don't count on the power company to keep the lights on , it takes diesel to run a coal barge or train. Weapons are essential.yes you will need enough for a year.
....I am fairly poor and have two kids and a giant dog. My budget allowed for: Dehydrated eggs and milk A case of spam A case of green beans A 25 lb bag of rice A few bags of flour, sugar, and salt A few cases of ramen About 12 gallons of water
If you buy food you normally wouldnt eat....it is easier to save.
About 500 rounds of 9mm, different fire starters, a few ways to purify water......plenty of knives
#1 tip: make friends with your neighbors now.....get them to start prepping
Currently I'm not too terribly stocked up. As a father of now 3 little ones money has been tight, but when it's the tightest God has sent relief in some shape or form. I'm gonna prep a little bit in case supply chain issues happen but basically lots of frozen meat and non perishable items for the next month or so. And I like to ferment mead as a hobby, and with a good buddy that raises bees, I'm just gonna make home brew as a bargaining chip for items I may want/need. Kek I have it partially thought out 😅
Anybody got a link to Trump's post. EDIT---never mind, I found it.
