High fructose corn syrup replacing actual sugar. Growth hormones in the animals that we eat. Sedentary lifestyles.
Kids used to run around like maniacs. Now they play video games.
Seed oils.
Eye-opening video
And playing political games to get the American Medical Association to endorse seed oils and demonize saturated fats: https://www.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424052702303678404579533760760481486
This is a way to lower sperm count and to get rid of a physically fit army. The covid jabs were the icing on the cake.
And don't forget the unlimited soda drinks at all fast food outlets, loaded with high fructose corn syrup. Back in the 80s you still had to order small, medium, or large soda. Now it's the 55 gallon drum size.
Ham planets…🤣
Would you like your drink in feed bucket, oil drum, or stock tank size?
Recall your childhood. If born ~1985 or earlier you were active as much as you could be. Why? That's what you did. And if you watched a movie you may have biked to the theater. VHS machines and rentals still at the high end of the scale. Home computers and gaming still out a ways out for most homes. You may have had an Atari 2600 but that was most likely and end of day thing to do. As was watching TV and on school nights it was limited.
Late 80s though, computers & complex role playing games emerged as did portable gaming (Gameboy). Cable became pervasive, you could stay in and be entertained (indoctrinated) rather than go outside and entertain yourselves. Get together with friends after school or on weekend? Maybe or maybe not. Yes, the above is over-simplified but there is no denial that all of this compounded exponentially. And now all the above done on a device you carry around.
Blue hair dye. That shit must cause obesity cos I see ham planets everywhere with blue hair.
I fear the day they lose weight, ditch the political shirts, stop wearing masks, let hair return to natural, get tats removed, and repair face piercings. You might think they are normal and not avoid like a Coral snake or Amazon frog.
The cure is not to eat. Fasting is a skill that should be taught in kindergarten.
Nope they've become the genesis of hearts & minds propaganda. All public schools controlled from the top down by the Dept. of "Education" and teacher's unions, all hard left politically. It has fully broken down and in the bluest of areas this is the norm -
Baltimore schools fail math
The real answer is eat what you plan to use for the day.
This. I started Keto with intermittent fasting about 1.5 months ago, and I've already lost 20 lbs. Cutting out processed food along with bread and potatoes makes a huge difference.
Answer:
The war on tobacco. JR Reynolds and other major tobacco companies were facing enormous pressure at the end of the 80s when it became abundantly clear they were knowingly increasing the amount of nicotine in their products, making them more addictive, and intentionally trying to hook kids early for increased profits. With lawyers and politicians bearing down wanting to ban smoking and wanting increasingly large settlements from claims they caused people's lung cancers, they made a business decision. They diversified.
They bought into the food industry. And they brought that same mentality to food. It was around this time that the salt content, the added sugar content, and the portion sizes started to increase. The sugar was the biggest component of it. Why? Because like nicotine, sugar triggers a large dopamine release in the brain's reward centers. It's how Nature evolved to let us know where to get calories. You get calories from sweet things like fruits, you little human monkey, you! Well, by the late 80s, we had some pretty good brain scans that showed this effect quite clearly. So, put more sugar into food. It'll taste better and people will eat more of it.
And it wasn't just "junk food" either. They added sugar and salt to everything to make it taste better and boost sales. It worked, and any company that wasn't doing it hired chefs to quality check their own products. They figured out really fast what was going on and replicated it. Within just a few years, this concept had penetrated the market globally. Another poster mentioned high-fructose corn syrup. That's a big part of it too, since it was significantly cheaper than real sugar (sucrose).
And it's not just in the US. Anywhere in the world where there is large-scale uptake of products from the major US processed food companies, you will see obesity on the rise.
Recall reading similar about laboratory kitchens within major food companies. The goal is to engineer desire not satiety. It's why the ingredients on so many "foods" look like a page from an chemistry book. Doritos & Cheetos mentioned and that the seasoning blend and carb structure engages pleasure centers in brain so you want to eat one after another even after you are full.
Same for every fast food offering, processed meat, ice cream, boxed cookies, chips, and on & on. I gave up junk food 5 years ago and although I do not smoke would liken the cravings upon quitting as similar. It was 4 weeks of struggle. And now it's remarkable when I do get something. The desire immediately returns to order the same thing again. I can resist easily knowing what is going on.
Standard American Diet with the food pyramid. So bad for our health. Add unnecessary vaccines and less recess/exercise in school.
Roundup ready crops became the way beginning in 1996. Thanks for that gem, Monsanto.
Maybe the internet..... People used to sit much less
Processed foods that contain more chemicals than ever before. FDA and USDA approval of huge amounts of corn syrup, nitrates, sodium, preservatives, artificial colorings, pesticides, hormones, GMOs, flavor enhancers and more. All sold under the claim of "convenience". I would love to see a chart showing obesity rates overlaid with numbers of microwaves sold in the last 20 years.
Keep in mind that the big chemical makers who make the food additives, agricultural pesticides and hormones like DuPont and Monsanto are in bed with the government regulators much like Pfizer and Moderna were with drug regulators. The huge amount of money involved is coming at the expense of people's health and longevity.
Ironically, when Amish farmers ignore the use of these toxins and organically farm their land using tried and true methods they are attacked by these same government agencies. Can you imagine how things would drastically change if these same regulators worked for the people and not big pharma, big agriculture, big food processors? Imagine a world where food was sourced locally from organic farmers not shipped around the world in fancy packages, promoted by advertising hype with ingredient labels not printed in type so small you need a microscope to see it.
And then there's the Cokes, Pepsis, Frito Lays of the world. Junk food hyped to high heaven in media everywhere. Profits for them, obesity for you.
low fat diets... seems to be working.
Sedentary entertainment. Everything done online sitting now. You used to have to walk to your car to go get food. Now you can just sit while it is delivered to you.
The answer is: fast food restaurants and eating out increases; junk foods like pop, energy drinks, coffee drinks; candy, cookies, etc.; GMOs in food; corn syrup and chemicals in baby formula.
Fast food, supersized foods, high fructose corn syrup, sedentary lifestyle, China processing food additives and no physical activity from adults or children taking P.E. in school or playing outside.
Round of applause Cargill, Monsanto Corp., Unilever…. Their corporate philosophies ‘Get them Fat, Get them Sick, Get them to die!!!’
These companies only care about profit - if you don’t believe; research High Fructose Corn Syrup - Developed in 1980 / Japan - It’s a GMO / it’s a cheaper sweetener - hence bigger profits! They removed NATURAL sugars and sweeteners to add this poison! In the US we subsidize the HFC industry by over HALF!! HFC is found in almost ALL processed and manufacture foods!

Some are naturally occuring compounds using scientific names, like glucose, thats just fruit sugar
Fructose comes from fruit.
I just had neighbors move in to the house next to me a couple months ago, and who had moved directly from Japan. They were joking they were now learning American food because they both gained 15 pounds since moving here lol.

Tacos?
As many have stated, high fructose corn syrup, a product that comes from making ethanol. I remember grocery shopping before, younger people would not. The "snack " section in the store was not as large. When the by product started being used in the 70's, suddenly big chain markets expanded, and the "snack aisle" was soon dominant, less food is sold, but tons of products, processed foods, were in all of them. Cookies and cake mixes, crackers and chips, boxed cereals, soda, canned soups, ice cream. The dairy aisles, produce aisles, meat department shrink. There is very little real food to be had, in proportion to the processed and fructose laden products. You can buy real food on a limited budget, but it does not have the "variety" of all the other crap. It is poison, it is food for the slaves, cheap, filling, and will kill you off quick, ready for the next generation. Kicking it causes withdrawal, but worth it.Our bodies were made perfectly, but it is not made to digest this garbage.
Doritos. First introduced in 1964 as plain corn chip, flavorings started in 1968. Downhill from there.
TPTB lowered the obesity threshold in the 90's or 2000's.
Came here to say this. They matched international guidelines and poof millions of people were now overweight
Everyone hit the main points (HFCS, SAD, and sedentary lifestyle). I'm going to add higher consumption of alcohol:
I'm aware that we have always been a nation of drinkers, but the culture has shifted greatly surrounding alcohol in the past few decades.
Corn syrup and cheap processed foods with sugar and carbs. Add screens and bam!
I read somewhere that when lab mice are exposed to DDT their second generation descendants end up growing obese.
It is possible that people who were exposed to DDT before it was banned in the early 1960s passed on something genetically that caused their grandchildren to be obese.
Automation may play a small part of it. I used to stand 10 hours a day cranking a manual surface grinder. Now I sit all day programing the cnc machinery that's doing the job I used to do.
Mainly I think it the high fructose corn syrup that's in absolutely everything combined with fast food. You need to be eating more fresh food.
I believe it is a combination of factors. Corporations found cheaper, and more fattening ingredients, such as High Fructose Corn Syrup to manufacture their fake food with, and advertising technology reached new heights, so that people would be compelled to buy this garbage, and believe that it was their personal choice, and not a suggestion planted in their brain by advertising. Real food, isn't manufactured. It is grown.
Fun fact: people used to need to eat 4,000-5,000 calories a day because of how much physical work they were doing each day. Sowing, threshing, harvesting, all by hand. Breaking up sod and soil, moving rocks around, herding cows and sheep, etc.
Think of people today like Michael Phelps who used to eat something like 7,000 calories or more a day because of how much training he was doing. But of course all those calories were coming from healthy things that give us energy, not bloat us or drag us down like sugar and unhealthy fats.
People technically eat way less calories today, but the problem is that we aren't active, and those calories we eat are all empty anyway, which will make us more hungry in the long run.
High fructose corn syrup and extra sodium.... Not just added to sweets and treats... But food you are told you need, though processed, introduced in the 70s.
Hamburger helper and Rice a roni. All boxes with that chicken or beef flavored sodium packet! Nothing but chemicals and things to destroy your metabolism.
Laziness, lack of masculinity, shitty beauty "standards", all the bullshit they put in the food
