Satan is still the ruler of this world for now. For us, it's all about living the best life we can, adding some good into the world as we pass through, and ultimately, having our relationship right with the Lord, and finding our name in the Book of Life when we get to the next world. At the end of our lives, that's really all that matters.
A Federal office I once worked for had original records dating back more than 100 years. They converted all the old documents to digital, and threw the originals away. A coworker and I were able to "rescue" some documents. I liked the letters from various railroad companies. They used a super polite manner of writing. They were very wordy, but made just about anything sound friendly. As a paraphrase, "Dear _____, I trust all in your office are doing well. I am writing to you today because I am somewhat concerned that our letter of ______, 1910, may not have received the attention we desire. Please let me know at your earliest convenience when we can meet to discuss the issues we previously raised. etc. etc." I'm not doing how they really typed justice, but I hope you get an idea of the differences between then and now. Today it would be, just a to: block, followed by a subject line: letter of _____, 2023. And then, because we have not received a response to our letter of ______, we request a meeting with your staff as soon as possible. I will call to arrange the meeting.

Could not be an American because American soldiers were not at war in 1939.
Could not be a British or French soldier because Britain and France declared war on Germany on 9/3/1939 (Germany never declared war on them). But Britain and France were not engaged in ground warfare (i.e. soldiers in combat) until 1940.
The only country that had a war mission in 1939 was Germany, when they went into Poland to stop the genocide of the ethnic Germans in Poland being committed by the Polish communists.
So, a German soldier would be the one with a motivation to write such a letter. Even then, it would have made more sense to describe it as a "mission" rather than a "war."
That's assuming the story of the meme is even true. Maybe some asshole just made it up -- and was too ignorant to realize he should have used a different year.

Having faith in Jesus Christ coming back to abolish sin and rectify His creation is hardly pessimistic or defeatist. And that is certainly where anyone preaching the Word of God in such a manner as above is coming from.
