I'm confused how they could call a couple network switches and an oscilloscope anything special, makes little sense. And then they chose THAT name??
Every protocol gets a code name, that way people working with it know how to refer to it. And it's much more than a couple switches
The picture is just a mock up. The actual system is much more complex; it spans the entire several kilometer track of the LHC while providing precise timing of signals on the order of nanoseconds.
