Erythrytol is a sugar alcohol. Stevia is a planet that is sweet but is not a sugar. Neither are "fake sugar". That is like saying spaghetti squash is fake spaghetti. It is a substitute, not a synthesis. Just sayin.

Yes. It's a substitute, and one of the better ones. It is passed nearly whole through urine, with a mostly insignificant amount absorbed as energy in your stomach.

Monk fruit is another substitute that is also not a "fake sugar".

Interesting that all these sugar substitutes are being attacked now, but of course actual artificial sweeteners and actual sugar are propped up.

I had a diabetic friend who ate candy with erythritol in it and she was ALWAYS passing gas. In small amounts, I'd think it's useful, maybe.

Erythrytol Can do a number on one’s stomach if you’re not used to it. Must start off with small doses before going in big time. But I find it to be very satisfying.

Like everything these days, a person needs to do their due diligence. Just because it says Stevia on the package, it does not mean that that is all that is in it. Stevia In the Raw contains maltodextrose, which is a sugar. Bad for diabetics like me.

I use Pyure, which is organic stevia extract and erythritol. I have used it for many years, and I haven't had any side effects or issues. Any studies that are coming out I treat with a grain of salt. I don't believe most of the crap unless it is peer reviewed and thoroughly documents. Also, I don't eat processed foods. We grow our food, or buy from local produce farms/ranchers

i like swerve. its just erithrytol plus some oligosaccharides that make it easier to digest. recommended by dr gundry, my gut guy

Hilariously, as I referenced above, Swerve is erythritol + monk fruit extract. I also prefer Swerve.

– 15th_dimension 3 points 1 year ago +3 / -0

wait, really? because there's a certain mechanism in swerve that makes it easier to digest, not just a different sweetener.

anyways, it is indeed magical stuff. i mix swerve icing sugar with butter and eat it out of a bowl lmfao.

Yup, the two ingredients in the organic Swerve is just erythritol and monk fruit extract. https://swervesweet.com/products/organic-granular

What makes it easier to digest isn't really the other ingredient, but rather keeping from having it be 100% erythritol. Erythritol can be pretty hard on some people in large amounts, so by padding it out with monk fruit extract they can reach an amount of sweetness that they want while also using less of it.

Erythritol is ~70% as sweet as sugar, whereas monk fruit extract is 100-250 times sweeter than sugar so the idea is that you can use a small amount of two naturally made sweeteners to reach the same level of sweetness as real sugar, without needing to pour in a massive amount of erythritol which can upset people's stomachs.

Edit: I saw the non-organic Swerve, which I'm not as much of a fan of, does not have monk fruit extract but instead bulks with Allulose, "flavor" and Xanthan gum.

I do not like bulking with Allulose, I found the taste of it less enjoyable when using it separately but the more you know.

Allulose is another natural sugar extract, about 70% as sweet as sugar like Erythritol.

I tried to make caramel with it once based on a keto recipe. That was a disaster, haha.

Yes it is. We also grow it. My point is that Erythritol hasn't done anything to me is all the years I have been using it. Daily. Anytime the government gets involved in any study, especially the NIH, I am automatically suspect of any "findings". Erythritol is found naturally. Just like everything on the planet, and our known universe, can cause different reactions in different people. Healthy foods can be deadly to some people. Bad foods may or may not affect some people adversely. It really is a crap shoot. As soon as we get our stevia plants growing good and sustainable, I will no longer buy any from the store...organic or otherwise.

it can be sourced from any fruit, and anyways, the genetics don't really have any impact on the chemical structure of the end result. it's not that complicated of a process, really.

if you can't have sugar, or just want to avoid it, erithrytol is a great alternative.

right, but you can choose which crops. plus, it's processed, fermented, and tested for purity. so few, if any toxins are going to make it through that process.

anyways, don't be scared of fruit n veggies. prayer can largely negate the effects of toxins.

and, like... you know where sugar comes from, right?

Important note though: Sometimes your body must acclimate to it and some people's bodies don't like it at all. Because it is not readily digestible, and a small amount of it "ferments", it can give gas and bloating.

I don't experience this issue, but I also tend to prefer sweetener mixes that use a combination of erythritol and monk fruit.

When you quit consuming sugar, you no longer have a need for a sugar substitute.

Honey, FTW!

permalink save report block reply
▲ 4 ▼
– Wtf_socialismreally 4 points 1 year ago +4 / -0

Honey is broken down into the same base carbohydrates as sugar in the end.

You only really get the benefits with raw honey as well.

Honey is also a sugar substitute, since it is a sweetener.

We gave my MIL Stevia to replace sugar for her coffee and a few days ago she started getting nose bleed and some blood are thick clot she said. None of us are jabbed, never take medicines or see doctors for the past 30+ years. Gonna stop the Stevia lets see what happens

permalink save report block reply
▲ 4 ▼
– randomnumbers 4 points 1 year ago +4 / -0

Stevia is an extract from a plant, so it's definitely better than things like aspartame.

However, what would be better is to cut out sugar where possible. Sugar is the food that cancers need, so if you store a lot of it and get cancer, you'll have a bad time.

Easiest thing for me to cut out was sugar in coffee. If you also use milk, just using heavy whipping cream. There's close to no sugar.

Definitely stop drinking pops/sodas.

Thanks.. and yes, we have cut out carbs and sugar completely. But my MIL is 78 y.o stubborn pessimist and has dementia. She's been addicted to sugar since forever and it's hard to change her. Alot of times she refuses to eat unless we give her a cookie or muffin.. it's been quite difficult taking care of her.

Not likely the Stevia. How sedentary is she? At that age, they're a major risk for clotting when they're inactive.

If she hasn't seen a doctor for the past 30+ years, it could mean something has developed under the radar.

Erythritol is very easy to pronounce.

Actually, all of the major sweeteners -- both natural and artificial -- are pretty pronounceable.

Erythritol.

Stevia.

Monk fruit extract.

Aspartame.

Sucralose.

Acesulfame potassium -- Ace K.

I use PURE STEVIA. It is available online via Walmart. It is a bit expensive, about $10 an ounce but you use VERY LITTLE, a tiny spoon called a 'doink' is about 1/16 of a tsp. ALL the so called Stevia sweetners are, by volume, mostly some sort of alcohol sugar.

Erythritol is an excellent insecticide:

https://search.brave.com/search?q=Erythrytol+insect+poison

In addition to increasing the risk for heart attack and stroke, Erythritol has other side effects that are less serious but still unpleasant (it kills good intestinal flora and can cause digestive problems) --

Experts note that the FDA considers erythritol safe because it's naturally occurring. But they say the quantities of erythritol that are used in food are much higher than what is known to be safe for your body. More research is needed to further understand possible health risks of erythritol.

Other side effects of erythritol

In addition to increasing your risk of heart attack and stroke, erythritol can cause mild to severe digestive issues if you consume large amounts of it. That includes bloating, cramping, excess gas, and diarrhea.

-- from https://www.webmd.com/diet/what-is-erythritol

None of this is to suggest that the current highlighting of Erythritol's cardiovascular harm isn't being used to help hide the more serious dangers of the COVID jabs, but regardless of that, this stuff is worth avoiding -- and unfortunately, it is often MIXED IN with STEVIA in packets etc. Check labels before buying Stevia for your morning coffee. Some sugar-free chocolate is sweetened with Erythritol as are many other sugar-free or reduced-sugar products.
