Dogs are omnivores and they do eat vegetables, not strict carnivores. They can get nutrition from both plants and meat, but they don't easily digest high volumes of fiber and plant matter. Dog diets are mostly protein, but can include beans, peas, pumpkin, spinach, apples, pears, broccoli, carrots, corn, rice and plenty of other vegetables we like to eat. I had a dog who loved to eat green olives with pamintoes. Most dogs love cooked green beans. You can't overdo it, but these are nice treats or can be added into dog food.
If the protein content is enough grams, they can have minimal vegetable. Do not replace daily required animal proteins and fats with plants. In 30 years of pet rescue sanctuary, I have learned this.
As a pet sitter… Many of our clients feed their dogs cook cooked sweet potatoes. They love them. My one client has cooked chicken breast and sweet potatoes for their dog every meal. But she is pretty special. Little Miloe 🥰 other clients that we have used farmers dog, (fresh meat and vegetables) and green beans and sweet potato as well.
Even animal protein pet foods are often sourced from questionable suppliers. Often originating from China. Do you know what the maximum liability is if your Dog or Cat are accidentally poisoned by your Pet food supplier? The cost of the Pet. That's it. They don't need to worry about a big liability.
Their management personnel are a bunch of idiots who bought into the whole BS Global Warming- Carbon Footprint- Sustainability BS. They clearly have no brains, and people with no brains usually go out of business, unless they can convince enough other people with no brains to purchase their product.
I have six beautiful loving kitties who love real quality meat from good butchers.
Cats can derive some fibre from veg, and even some vitamins and minerals, but in both cases only negligibly so in terms of their obligate diet. It's mostly helpful in terms of moisture content. If you find they do like something that's non-meat, then so long as it isn't harmful to them per se, it's fine as 'treats' in strict moderation. Two of mine love sharing a couple of baked beans when 'daddy' has them, go figure 😁
About the best non-meat thing they can consume nutrition-wise is egg, and they seem to instinctively love it. My cats' favourite treat is an egg or two barely scrambled into very lightly fried mince. If you're going to give them 'real' meat, cook it only barely as cooking breaks down taurine, which is an essential dietary requirement for them.
Mince and very thin stir fry strips is good as cats can only 'tear' as opposed to chew, so with commercial wet food they basically just gulp and swallow it and so don't use their teeth in the ancestrally intended way. Also, they love observing the food preparation process, it's stimulation and routine for them and bonding for all of us 😻😻
When I’m pet sitting for my family in Hawaii, they have six cats. Fresh raw mahi, and cooked chicken breast. These cats are spoiled, but they don’t all get the goods. Just the two that live on the second floor. The rest are strays that they have caught, had them fixed and their shots, and then released, but they still live on the property. They are still fed a pretty good diet, but the two highly favored ones are eating high on the hog.
My daughter worked at a veterinary clinic for several years.
The absolute worst dog food that she refused to allow in our house is Blue Buffalo. Apparently she had read several reports of dogs dying after eating Blue Buffalo dog food. I know it's made in the USA, but she won't trust it.
Something is wrong when the cost to feed a pet is many times more expensive than feeding yourself!
I was buying some cat treats to feed street cats near my last office. When I realized that it was costing like $20 per pound and that I could buy whole chickens for about $1.50 per pound, I started putting the whole chickens in my slow cooker and the cats loved that.
Dogs and cats don't eat plants. Maybe that's related.
The worst offender besides Wild Earth is that Purina has veggies in their pet food.
Actually, Purina uses GMO in their pet food. I would never feed my pets Purina.
Which kind do you prefer to buy?
I feed them brown rice, vegetables and meat. A range of meat: chicken, turkey, beef, sometimes salmon.
💖👌
That explains why my cats won't eat Purina.

Very true, and adding carrots to pet food is a natural vermicide.

Egg is derived from chicken with the yoke being a future chicken provided you don't eat it and let it hatch.
“Vegetarian Dog Food”. WTF…
Dogs and especially cats are mostly carnivores. However my dog loves popcorn, carrots and apples as a treat.
And I know that plain pumpkin purée mixed in her food is good for one of my cat’s digestive tract when she has issues. And my dog would eat it, too.
Cats are Obligate Carnivores, meaning they have no choice. Dogs can eat chicken with rice, but cats must have protein from critters.
Cats and dogs are carnivorous. That's why
My brother, known to this community as JScholl9, feeds his dog a special meat diet food that includes chicken and turkey.
Corn meal is a major ingredient in most of the less expensive pet foods. A lot of it looks almost exactly like the pellets fed to my racing birds.
I am talking about Purina's Benieful dog food which has fruits and veggies. In fact, there is a lawsuit against Purina that was filed against this dog food.
I use half Purina Pro Plan and half Farmer's dog plus yogurt, pumpkin and carrots for my dogs.
Oh yuck.
Even the animals refused to eat it.

They SHOILD go bankrupt for pushing vegetarian pet food.
An 18-pound bag of Wild Earth’s performance formula dog food costs $99.
