Out of the very few liberals I talk to, only a couple are even aware Zelensky's term ended in May. Then they say that's OK because, you know ..... THERE'S A WAR GOING ON, reeeeee!!

In reality I remember reading a year ago that 57% of Ukranians are in favor of a ceasefire with territorial concessions. And Zelensky's approval was at like 15% or something like that.

Ukraine needs a legitimate president in order for the final deal to be legitimate. Zelensky should be happy is he simply survives the transition.

I think the subtext here is that Russia and the United States will both have a keen interest in making sure the election is •conducted fairly and lawfully and °properly represents the will of the Ukrainian people.
So they will sort of have to start digging into/auditing not just the US $ sent to Ukraine and following that, but actually have some agency or third party ◇looking over the current state of Ukraine's judiciary, political bodies and its "election infrastructure" which would reach down to local levels.
The vote they had in Crimea years ago was smoothly executed and legitimate, despite liberals now acting so dubious about it because it involved Russia. Also happened under Obama, jackasses.
